WAFFLES: I'm going on a safari. I hope I'll be back soon, but you never know. Safaris are dangerous and stuff. So if I don't make it back, please give all my chicken drumstick toys to Glogirly and my KFC gift cards to Gloman.
Ok, here I go.
WAFFLES: I KNEW it! There's monsters living in the ceiling. I've been trying to tell the Boss this for like TEN years!
KATIE: Waffles, you're not even three.
WAFFLES: Ok, I've been trying to tell the Boss this for almost THREE years!
KATIE: I'm right here, Waffles. So what exactly are you trying to tell me?
WAFFLES: I need a bigger ladder, Boss!
KATIE: What, your *elebenty billion* cat towers can't get you high enough?
WAFFLES: NO Boss. I need one right HERE. Right in THIS spot!
KATIE: What's so special about that spot?
WAFFLES: Monsters, Boss! There's MONSTERS living in the ceiling right here! Can't you hear them? I need to get close so–
KATIE: So that's why you're always climbing the walls.
About Today's Photos
Today's pics were actually taken back in February. Glogirly had to change a lightbulb upstairs and needed the big ladder from the garage. She procrastinated carrying the ladder back down to the garage and finally left it out in the middle of the floor to remind her. That's like an open invitation to a certain orange cat. When Waffles realized he could climb it... and get closer to his beloved ceiling, well you can imagine the rest.
Waffles and his Ceiling Obsession
To say Waffles is obsessed with the ceiling is putting it mildly. Sometimes he just sits in the middle of the floor yowling up at the ceiling. No bug, no cobweb, no nothing... just his imaginary friends and monsters. He SO wants to touch the sky. He literally tries to climb the walls and door frames. When Glogirly picks him up, he reaches way, way up high to the ceiling.
Maybe there is something to this whole ceiling cat business.
Does your cat have an obsession you can't explain?

Both Harry and Sherpa need to be UP. I'm sure you saw the photo of Harry climbing the ladder out the skylight hole?
ReplyDeleteWaffles, you are very strange! My only obsession is food.
ReplyDeleteThe ceiling is an obsession of Preslee's, too. **sighs**
ReplyDeleteOur Frank and Ben also have a ceiling obsession! They meow and chirp and stretch up to it. Maybe they are talking to ghosts?! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteWe got dem same ceiling monsters here and I'm the only one who hears em!
ReplyDeleteYou know this means you need a climbing wall, right?
ReplyDeleteWe've never talked to the ceiling ... Hmmmm. Wonder if there are treats hidden up there?!?
ReplyDeleteI do not have an obsession M says because I am too lazy to have one! He he. That Wwaffles is so dang funny with his expressions!
ReplyDeleteMy Waffles look-a-like only has the ceiling obsession right after he eats when daddy comes home after second shift work.
ReplyDeleteThen he runs upstairs and yowls at the ceiling in the hallway!
Haha... our Max did that the other day when the electrician was in the ceiling, and then he followed his sounds down the end of the house - he knew he was up there!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Waffles! Newton went through a phase where he wanted very badly to see out of the windows in the front door... the ones that are over the human's heads. He would jump vertically six feet to glimpse what was out there and liked to be held up to peer out. He must have figured out that it's the same view as the kitchen window a few feet away, because his obsession seems to have faded.
ReplyDeleteWaffles, I understand your obsession. I love being up high...the higher the better. Maybe it's an orange thing. ~Wally
ReplyDeleteOur only yowly cat was Angel Maude. She liked to sing in the bathroom because it sounded so good (to her!).

That is a very interesting quirk that Waffles has. Sometimes I just walk around meowing for no reason, but ceilings don't seem to be my obsession.
ReplyDeleteDo chickens live in the ceiling ? Purrs
ReplyDeleteTubby loves to climb high up too. He loves to go above my cupboards where he can touch the ceiling. LOL. Garfield is my treasure hunter so you have to make sure stuff is put away especially any trash in small trash cans.
ReplyDeleteSue B
Yeah. We get that. Ichiro meows at the walls...
ReplyDeleteWaffles, maybe there are ghosts living up in those ceilings?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Waffles sees the Ghosts of Christmas past.........
ReplyDeleteGo for the ceiling, Waffles! And keep on showing those sharp teeth. You look like a jungle creature...
ReplyDeleteWaffles, you aren't alone in this. Sampson stares and meows at the ceiling too! Perhaps if you two put your adorable heads together, you can catch those ceiling monsters!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen Benny was younger, he had obsessions about certain walls and one ceiling spot in the basement. We wondered if he could hear mice or bugs? We never saw a mouse so who knows?
ReplyDeleteBut Waffles does see it! MOL
ReplyDeleteAnnabelle likes to bang the cabinet doors.
I'm sure Waffles is right about the monsters. We've had more than one Ceiling Cat at Feline Rescue. Dastardly Dave broke into the ceiling twice! He insisted that he saw Mayan ruins up there. It's called "push the tile up, jump in, and explore". Human panic is created: "OMG, Rudy is missing!" Sometimes, tuna works; sometimes, nothing will persuade a cat in the ceiling to come back out. There's something in there. I don't know how to post a picture here, but I'll email the picture of Little Sid, Ceiling Inspector
ReplyDeleteMiss Fionna is obsessed with the ceiling in the bedroom. She climbs the headboard and then tries to climb the walls. My husband finally went and got a closer look (he's 6'4'') and stood on the bed and saw a teeny tiny little bug. She must have wonderful eye sight to see the bug. He killed the bug and she stopped for awhile, but is doing it again. It is spring and the bugs are coming out now, so they may be hiding on the ceiling.
ReplyDeleteWe believe you, Waffles! There's something up there, for sure!
ReplyDeleteZoe is obsessed with the bathroom faucet. If it's not on, she tries to "herd" us in there, and won't stop talking until we turn it on. MOL.
well me luvs da ceilin' too. Lots of times me will get on da top shelf of da cat twee and weach up and touch da ceilin'. Me just can't seem to get close enuff eevew. Not cuz there be any ghosts, me just likes to be on top of da world. Least da world as me knows it. MOL
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi and Lexi
There is a monster living in our ceiling too Waffles. Dad lifts me up to touch the ceiling sometimes and I try to scratch at it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of glad Truffles likes to remain on the ground :)
ReplyDeleteManhattan has been communing with ghosts in the kitchen ceiling fan and above my bedroom closet since she moved in. Now that I've installed shelves for her to climb above the closet, she stands with her paws reaching up the wall as far as she can and cries. She is eyeing some of the pipes that run along the ceiling of the Warehouse apartment. She is gonna love our next installation...higher shelves and more of a catwalk. I suspect she is going to try to make her way to the various pipes....16 feet off the ground...and then walk the ceiling! Waff, you and Manhattan are definitely kindred spirits! :)
ReplyDeletethis was just darling! Read the comment above and YES, cats can see spirits. Cody will often look up at nothing...I once read that cats can most definitely see spirits and I bet in all seriousness, that Waffles is seeing some too
ReplyDeleteBoth Saku and Sasha have both climbed the shelves in the basement storage room, though only Saku has lifted a ceiling tile and taken a walk. He didn't get far before he fell through the ceiling tiles into my son's bedroom from which he was ceremonially dispatched.
ReplyDeleteDo you have mousies or sqwerls that might have snuck in to make noise?
ReplyDeleteYipe! TW is scared of ladders. I swear there’s a spuirrel living in our roof and the last super thought so too. I can be found staring at the ceiling many a day.
ReplyDeleteMonsters? In the ceiling? MOUSES! Hmmm... could they be mice?
ReplyDeletePurrs,
