Waffles Working it for the Camera

WAFFLES:  Hello, ladies. Welcome to my handsomeness.

ELLIE:  So, Mr. Handsomeness, you know you're not supposed to be on the counter, right?

WAFFLES:  That's the KITCHEN counter, Ellie. This is the bathroom, duh.

ELLIE:  A counter is a counter is a counter, Mr. Waffles. That's what Glogirly says.

WAFFLES:  That's like three counters, Ellie. You're kind of repeating yourself.

ELLIE:  You mean like when Glogirly tells you to get off the counter, again and again? And again?

"Handsome Poser"
WAFFLES:  I can't hear you, Elie. I'm busy being handsome.

"Kiss Me"
WAFFLES:  You know, for the ladies.

About Today's Photos
Every once in a while, Waffles tries to help Glogirly put on her makeup in the morning. And then Glogirly helps him off the counter. But today was a no-makeup day for Glogirly. She was just tidying up the house and happened into the bathroom.

Fortunately, her camera was close by because that first photo at the beginning of today's blog post was exactly what she saw– Waffles looking like he was posing for a centerfold. When she started shooting, the mancat/supermodel started working the camera. He was twirling around the bathroom sink and faucet, totally showing off. A few trills and chortles were heard, then he finished the photo session with a kiss on the mirror.

Pure Waffles.

Inside Ellie's Dreams

ELLIE:  ...butterflies and birds, squirrels and Cheetos, Mr. Waffles...  Zzzzzzz...

WAFFLES:  You're dreaming again, Ellie. And wiggling. You know you wiggle when you dream.

ELLIE:  ...watching movies and eating snacks, sleeping on Gloman's lap. Zzzzzzz..... With Mr. Waffles.

WAFFLES:  And when you wiggle, you wake me up.

ELLIE:  ...Mr. Waffles, Mr. Waffles, and Mr. Waffles... Zzzzz...

WAFFLES:  More wiggling, Ellie.

ELLIE:  ...Mr. Waffles... Zzzz...

WAFFLES:  Still. Wiggling.

ELLIE:  Zzzzzz.

WAFFLES:  Finally. Zzzzzz.

About Today's Photos

Is it possible for two kitties to love each other THIS much? It's clear that Waffles loves being around Ellie, though sometimes he still needs a little mancat time. But Ellie absolutely LIVES for Waffles. She bounces around the house, following him, copying his every move. It's so much cuteness, our hearts just melt.

Glogirly's Oldest Friend Visits - Plus RARE VINTAGE Photos and an Evening of Music Magic with Earth, Wind & Fire and Lionel Richie

ELLIE:  So Mr. Waffles, are you going to sleep with Glogirly's friend? I don't think I'm ready for that kind of commitment yet.

WAFFLES:  What do you think, Ellie? When have I EVER turned down luggage inspection and bed making?

ELLIE:  Yeah, I like luggage inspection and all, but I'd rather sneak into the room when she's not here.

WAFFLES:  Ok then, I call firsties!

KATIE:
She's all yours, Mr. Waffles.

JOANNA:  Do you hear that, Pancake Batter? You're all MINE.

WAFFLES:  Pancake Batter? Whaddya mean, Pancake Batter? Who the heck is Pancake Batter?

Old Friends, Best Friends

Glogirly's oldest friend, Joanna, came to visit last week. Ok, so she's not THAT old. She and Glogirly are exactly the same age. But they've known each other since 7th grade. That's FORTY EIGHT years. Holy CAT! Waffles can't even begin to count that high.

Joanna's son used to call Waffles 'Wafer.' So in the tradition of food-themed names and mispronunciations, Joanna had some fun calling Waffles everything from Pancake Batter to Hamburger Patty. Yes, she's almost as silly as Waffles.

Before selfies were even a thing, they were taking pictures of themselves using the timer on Joanna's old Instamatic. Pretty sure Joanna may have invented the selfie!

Glogirly & Joanna - The Original Selfies

We thought you'd enjoy seeing a glimpse of them through the years -

A Concert Reunion

Shortly after Glogirly and Joanna graduated from high school, WAY back in 1981, they went to their first rock concert together. They saw Earth, Wind & Fire, with the Commodores opening for them, in St. Paul, Minnesota. When they heard that EWF was touring with Lionel Richie this year and were making a stop in Denver, they thought, "What better way to celebrate turning 60!"

They danced and sang until their voices were gone and had the most amazing time ever. And to keep the party going, Joanna and her brother are coming to the mountains this week for Sting's tour stop at Red Rocks. On the September 21 no less! ...would have been incredible to see Earth, Wind & fire on the 21st of September!!!

When we mentioned EWF and Lionel a couple of weeks ago, it sure sounded like many of our friends and readers are fans, so we thought you'd enjoy seeing a few of Glogirly's concert photos.

EWF & Lionel Richie

Earth, Wind & Fire opened the evening with over 90 minutes of their favorite songs. Shining Star, After the Love is Gone, Reasons, Fantasy, Let's Groove, Boogie Wonderland, and more. They closed with September and if the crowd hadn't already gone wild, September lit up the entire stadium.

Three original and founding members of the band are still rocking it as powerfully as they did in the 70s and 80s. Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, and Philip Bailey. Philip Bailey's falsetto was nothing short of amazing.

And Verdine White, brother of the late founder and leader Maurice White, had an energy and stage presence that shone bright. His smile says it all.

And then came Lionel...

Lionel is Glogirly all-time favorite singer, songwriter, and performer. He takes the stage like it's his first concert. And sings as if he's singing for you and you alone. He's the most gracious, humble, kind, and generous artist Glogirly's ever had the privilege of seeing live.

Lionel Richie's music is literally the soundtrack of her young adulthood and college years. She knows every word to every song.

Lionel's band is fabulous and clearly loves performing for his adoring fans.

If only it could have gone on All Night Long. Still, Lionel sang for two glorious hours.

One of Lionel Richie's most memorable qualities is his genuine appreciation of his fans. Sometimes he'll pause, look around at the audience, just taking it all in. He wishes we could all see what he sees. He takes nothing for granted. His connection to his fans is something so very special.

Happy 21 Years to the Couple that put the GLO in Glogirly!

ELLIE:  Hey, Mr. Waffles?

WAFFLES:  Ellie?

ELLIE:  What's it like to be an old married couple?

WAFFLES:  How would I know, Ellie?

ELLIE:  Because you're old and we're a couple?

KATIE:  Watch it, Ellie. You're on thin ice.

ELLIE:  Ice? But it's not even winter yet.

WAFFLES:  Last Friday was Glogirly and Gloman's 21st wedding anniversary. If ANYONE's the old married couple it's THEM. Besides, you and I aren't exactly a couple. Got it?

ELLIE:  Are you sure? Maybe we could elope or something.

WAFFLES:  Elope??? We can't elope, Ellie.

ELLIE: You mean like melons?

WAFFLES:  Seriously? Fruit?

ELLIE:  Is a wedding anniversary the same as a Gotcha Day? Did they gotcha each other? Like from the shelter and stuff?

WAFFLES:  I'm pretty sure they didn't get each other at the shelter. The story is that they met by chance, on a doorstep.

ELLIE:  They got YOU at the shelter though, right? And they got ME at a shelter! Will you tell me the story about how Glogirly and Gloman gotted each other? Pretty please!!!

WAFFLES:  I'm not a super good story teller, but the Boss was. That's Katie. She's the kitty that came before you. So I'm going to let her tell the story.

WAFFLES:  Thanks, Mr. Waffles. I love stories. Especially love stories.

...Once upon a time
KATIE:  I bet you didn't know that this is the photo that started it all. It was the picture we used on our very first blog header way back in 2009 when I started every blog post with, "Hi Everyone, Katie here."

I was an anniversary present. A nice man with kind brown eyes and a deep voice adopted me for someone he said was very, very special. This special someone had no idea what he was planning. It was going to be a HUGE surprise. He'd been hinting around ... telling her that he was working on her anniversary 'kit.'

She was thinking maybe a kit for washing her car, or a kit of accessories for her iPod or something.

Little did she know, 'kit' was short for kitten.

It was love at first sight.

Gloman's given Glogirly some very special anniversary gifts over the years. He's always really creative and silly about how he gives her presents. Sometimes he'll hide cards by her toothbrush or tucked inside her makeup bag. One year he hid a beautiful watch in the refrigerator next to the milk and butter.

But the most special gift of all was a little black and white kitten with a purple bow around her neck and a tiny little tag that read, "Happy Anniversary."

The Story Behind the Story
Over the years we've shared the hopelessly romantic story of how Glogirly and Gloman met. And how they came to be Glogirly and Gloman. If you're new to the blog and like a sappy love story, turn off the Lifetime channel and click the story link below. If you already know the story and want to read it again, well that's your problem.

Their story is proof that love is everywhere.
And when you least expect it, love might just tap you on the shoulder.

Resting Up for a Special Mountain Houseguest

ELLIE:  Mr. Waffles! Did you hear we're getting houseguests again!? Glogirly's BFF from junior high is coming all the way from NYC!

WAFFLES:  On it. I'm already furring up the guest bed for her.

ELLIE:  Do you think there'll be lots of giggling and stuff? Pillow fights?

WAFFLES:  And if we're lucky... SNACKS! It's going to be a big week, Ellie. We better rest up!

Moments later.........

WAFFLES:  ZZZzzzzz.....

Incoming!

That's right, Glogirly's oldest friend is on her way from NYC to the Rocky Mountains for a special visit. They're celebrating each turning 60 this year with a very special concert...Earth, Wind & Fire and Lionel Richie.

42 years ago, they went to their first concert together. It was Earth, Wind & Fire with the Commodores opening for them. So when they heard they were coming to Denver, they just HAD to get tickets. There'll be lots of music, dancing, and kitty cuddling this week! ...and hopefully some photos of the fun next week!

Flashback to Ellie, the Black Hole Bandit

Glogirly is traveling today so we thought it would be fun to relive one of Ellie's very first escapades. We hope you enjoy the flashback!

WAFFLES:  Hello, 119? Is this 119?

OPERATOR:  This is 911. What is your emergency?

WAFFLES:  911? Are you sure? I swear I dialed 119.

OPERATOR:  This is 911. Please state your emergency.

WAFFLES:  Emergency? Well, it's not a major emergency or anything. But Glogirly is freaking out.

OPERATOR:  There's a girl GLOWING???

WAFFLES:  Glogirly's freaking out. Ellie is stuck in the wall.

OPERATOR:  There's a glowing girl AND a girl named Ellie stuck in a wall???

WAFFLES:  Glogirly isn't glowing. I said she's freaking out. And Ellie is a CAT. Well really more of an inexperienced kitten. And she's stuck in the wall.

OPERATOR:  How did this Ellie cat get stuck in the wall?

WAFFLES:  She climbed through the hole.

OPERATOR:  What hole?

WAFFLES:  That's what Glogirly said!

OPERATOR:  So we're back to the glowing girl again?

WAFFLES:  Nevermind. Me and Gloman are going to rescue her.

OPERATOR:  So there's a glowing MAN too?

Wait, WHAT???

Ellie has a new name. The Black Hole Bandit

Last weekend, Glogirly opened the door to our tiny triangular shaped storage closet we have in our master bedroom. Gloman keeps all his tripods, camera cases, and stuff in there. She wanted to grab a spotting scope and tripod to look out the window at a brush fire that had started up in our canyon just a couple of miles from our home. Firefighters were already on the scene and working to keep it contained. She and Gloman were concerned though and wanted a closer look.

When no one was looking, Ellie slipped into the closet and started rifling around through the camera bags.

While Gloman watched the fire, Glogirly did a quick cat check. (shaking a bag of treats throughout the house to quickly establish Waffles and Ellie's whereabouts. Waffles was Johnny-on-the-spot but Ellie was nowhere to be found.

The last place Glogirly had seen or heard Ellie was in that tiny closet. She started moving everything out of it, looking inside camera bags, calling her name...but still no Ellie.

The back of this closet is opposite our fireplace in the living room. And inside the closet close to the ground and in the way back is a vent that leads from the outside, through the closet, into the wall and behind the fireplace. When she got on her hands and knees, she discovered a small hole in the wall under that vent. The vent is round and the builders must have cut a square hole for it to fit through. And tiny Ellie made her way into the hole.

A flashlight revealed a fairly large space inside the wall between the fireplace and the closet. Probably about 4' x 6'. The flashlight also revealed you-know-who. But to Ellie this was just a fun game. Glogirly and Gloman tried luring her out with everything they could think of. Her favorite wand toy, treats, her plastic bottle cap fetch toy...she'd reach out to grab them, but would quickly pull her paw back in and wouldn't come out. Glogirly could reach her hand into the hole and pet her, but it was in such an awkward position, there was no way to pull Ellie out. It was such a small hole too, Ellie must have squeezed her way into it.

Meanwhile, back to the fire watch.

Although a few trees were still engulfed in flames, (very scary!) we'd learned the fire was successfully contained and everyone and their homes were safe, Kudos to our amazing volunteer firefighters! Glogirly and Gloman continued trying to coax Ellie out. Had any sort of evacuation been necessary, Glogirly was ready to cut a gigantic hole in the wall, jump in herself, and get Ellie out.

Nearly two hours passed and Ellie was clearly not going to budge from her hidey-hole.

So Gloman took the vent apart and removed a section of it to open up the hole. It had been blocking Ellie's view of the outside world and possibly causing her to be scared to jump back out. With the vent piece out of the way, she could see all of us. Especially Waffles.

Waffles to the Rescue!

Waffles meowed and purred like crazy. It was like he was telling Ellie it was ok to come out.

And so she did. The Black Hole Bandit was out. And her hidey-hole is now permanently blocked.

ELLIE:  But I liked my new hidey-hole.
