Happy Leaping Waffles Day!

WAFFLES: *huff puff huff puff*  BOSS! *huff puff*  Did you see where the red dot went?

*huff puff*

KATIE:  Waffles, get ahold of yourself.  It's just a little red dot.

WAFFLES:  But Boss! I HAVE to catch the red dot today on account of it's Leap Day!

KATIE:  Waffles, what's Leap Day got to do with catching the red dot? You're always chasing the red dot.

Every. Single. Day.

WAFFLES:  But if I don't catch it today, I have to wait a whole four years to catch it.

KATIE:  Because catching it... say tomorrow, doesn't work for you?

WAFFLES:  *huff puff*

KATIE:  Ok, Waffles. Leap away. Leap far, far away.

About Today's Leap Day Video
Katie wasn't kidding. Waffles is absolutely, positively obsessed with chasing the red dot. Every night after dinner, he'll go and sit by the wall in the video, stare down Glogirly, and meow. Loudly. If he's really desperate, he'll ever go over to the drawer under the TV where the red dot sleeps and paw at it, glancing back at Glogirly with his pleading eyes. He gives her a few soft meows and chirps. It gets her every time.

Waffles is an equal opportunity gamer though. If it's not the red dot, it's his fetch toy, wand toy...whatever toy he can get his paws on. But there's definitely something special between him and his beloved red dot.

Yes, Glogirly Photoshopped the electrical outlet out of the picture. She's crazy like that.
HAPPY LEAP DAY!
How will you be celebrating?

Furry Fairy Tail Friday

WAFFLES:  Once upon a–   Boss, what's it upon again?

KATIE:  Time, Waffles. It's once upon a time. You know, like a fairy tale.

WAFFLES:  Oh yeah. Fairy's tails. Did you know today is National Fairy Tail Day?

KATIE:  Is that why you're wearing butterfly wings?

WAFFLES:  These aren't butterfly wings. They're FAIRY wings. Everyone knows that.

KATIE:  Those look like butterfly wings to me.

WAFFLES:  Fairy wings! Fairy wings!

KATIE:  Whatever, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  And this is my fairy tail.

Happy National Tell a Fairy Tale Day!
Yup, it's a real day. As real as National Clam Chowder Day (yesterday) or National If Cats Had Opposable Thumbs Day (next Thursday). Waffles got wind of it and decided he had to play along. Of course he's a little confused on the difference between tales and tails.

That's what happens when you have a 15" tail.

It's Always Lunchtime Somewhere #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Is it lunchtime yet? It's got to be lunchtime somewhere, right?

WAFFLES:  Hmmm... I better figure out what I want to order for lunch. I hear the food here is really good.

WAFFLES:  Uh, Garçon!

WAFFLES:  Uh wait... what's a garçon?  Is it like a kind of fancy chicken? Extra-crispy fancy chicken?

About Today's Photos
Today's post originally appeared here on August 12, 2015. Waffles was particularly excited about mealtime and we couldn't help but think of this post. He's goofy when it comes to food. Somedays it's as if his whole universe is food, food, food. Other days, he's all about the red dot. Like obsessively all about the red dot. And other days he's sacked out on the blue chair.

Those of you that have been with us for a few years might remember Katie in this same blue chair. Well, Waffles knows a good thing when he sees it. About 24 hours after he was sprung from the kitten room almost 3 years ago, he staked his claim.

Would you believe Katie has not sat in that chair since?

Katie, three years (and three pounds!) ago.

We're pretty sure if she wanted it she'd take it. But there's something to be said for making a statement. And Katie is most definitely a cat of principle. She won't give Waffes the satisfaction of knowing how coveted that chair really is.

Or maybe she just doesn't want orange fur between her toes.

Glogirly's Cheating Heart

WAFFLES:  Hey BOSS! Do you smell what I smell?

KATIE:  Inside voice, Waffles. Inside voice.

WAFFLES:  *whispers* hey Boss! Do you smell–

KATIE:  I heard you the first time, Waffles. And to be honest, I'd rather not smell what you smell.

WAFFLES:  No, Boss. You don't understand. Glogirly smells... well.. she smells funny. And not haha-funny, but funny-funny.

KATIE:  What do you mean, funny-funny?

WAFFLES:  She smells like a CAT.

KATIE:  She always smells like a cat. She smells like us.

WAFFLES:  You mean like part orange cat and part tuxedo cat?

KATIE:  Waffles, since when do you have a pair of white boots?

WAFFLES:  I don't have any white boots. And that's NOT my tail.

KATIE:  And that's not your––

WAFFLES:  AAAACK!! It IS an orange tuxedo cat! Boss, how does that even happen?

KATIE:  Let's just keep this on the down low, Waffles.

Her Cheating Heart
Meet Rocky. An adorable tabby tuxedo that Glogirly was cat sitting last week. He belongs to her friend and coworker. Rocky's humans went on vacation with their regular cat sitter (can you imagine???) and he needed a friend to look in on him.

We knew something was up when Glogirly snuck out of the townhouse with her camera in one hand and a wand toy in the other. The gig was totally up though when she returned home covered in orange and white fur. We don't even want to think about what they may have been up to.

Waffles & the Dinnertime Reconnaissance Tour

WAFFLES:  Boss! What day is it? I can't remember what day it is.

KATIE:  Friday. Why?

WAFFLES:  I just want to make sure I don't sleep through Caturday.

KATIE:  Caturday? What about DINNER? You know, for a cat who's as food-obsessed as you are, you sure do sleep through dinnertime a lot. In fact, if I didn't send you out on your daily reconnaissance tour to remind Glogirly it's 4:59pm, we'd starve to death.

And speaking of 4:59pm–

WAFFLES:  GLOGIRLY!!!! The Boss says it's dinnertime!

KATIE:  Waffles! A little subtlety goes a long way. Now go into the living room, sit on the ottoman in front of Glogirly, and stare at her. Don't blink, don't look away, don't make a move until she does.

 About Today's Photos
We've shared the pre-mealtime dance routine that takes place daily here at the Townhouse. What you probably don't know is what goes on right before the dance begins.

Katie, the lead time monitor, keeps a close eye on her internal clock. She's getting ready to get ready for dinner long before the clock strikes 5pm. Glogirly is a little lackadaisical when it comes keeping a rigid and perfectly timed schedule.

Everyday, starting at about 4pm, Katie & Waffles meet in the kitchen. After what appears to be a close conversation, with instructions given by Katie, Waffles makes his first trek through the living room where Glogirly is usually working on her computer. The goal of course, is to gently remind her that it's dinnertime and she's got two cats who are at risk of starvation.

Sometimes it takes a couple of pass throughs. Sometimes Waffles has to sit and stare at her.

Worst case scenario, Katie has to make a final pass through. ...that's when Glogirly knows she means business.

And dinner is served.

Dancing with the Cat Stars

WAFFLES:  Ok Boss, so I'm going to lead, right?

KATIE:  Lead what, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  The Mango, Boss!

KATIE:  Don't you mean the Tango?

WAFFLES:  It's easy, Boss. Just follow my lead.

KATIE:  No, you follow MY lead.

WAFFLES:  But I'm the boy. I'm supposed to lead.

KATIE:  And I'm the Boss.

WAFFLES:  But what about Dancing with the Stars?

KATIE:  Waffles, you've got two left feet. You'll never make it.

WAFFLES:  Aww, man. If only I had two right feet.

About Today's Photos
The mealtime choreography just gets better and better. Glogirly snapped today's pictures in the kitchen just before dinner. The prelude is always the same–
  1. Glogirly takes the food out of the fridge and puts it on the kitchen counter.
  2. She picks up Katie's dish.
  3. She picks up Waffles' dish.
  4. She washes the dishes for what seems to be an hour. Can we PLEASE get a new hot water heater???
  5. Then before the food is even dished up, the dancing begins.

Today's dinner was delayed a whole 10 minutes while she wasted precious time taking photos.

A cat could starve around here.

The Un-Valentine

WAFFLES:  Did you like my valentine, Boss?

KATIE:  What valentine? You didn't give me a valentine.

WAFFLES:  Yeah I did. You know, the heart shaped box of chicken treats.

KATIE:  What heart shaped box of chicken treats?

WAFFLES:  You didn't get any?

KATIE:  I think I'd remember a heart shaped box of chicken treats.

WAFFLES:  Well maybe you just forgot.

KATIE:  Waffles, you should know by now that I never forget.

WAFFLES:  But you forgot to give me a valentine.

WAFFLES:  Like I said, Waffles. I never forget.

Better than a Dozen Roses - A Dozen Reasons to Adopt

WAFFLES:  So Boss, will you be my valentine?

KATIE:  I'll need to consult my advisors on that, Waffles. At this time, I'm not ready to make any promises or commitments.

WAFFLES:   So Boss, what are the chances of a cat like me and a cat like you ending up together, being each other's valentines?

KATIE:  Well Waffles, that's difficult to say.

WAFFLES:  C'mon, Boss. Hit me with it! Just tell me. What are my chances?

KATIE:  Not good.

WAFFLES:  You mean like one out of hundred?

KATIE:  More like one out of elebenty billion.

WAFFLES:  So you're telling me there's a chance!!!

Valentines Day at the Townhouse
We're not real big on Valentines Day around here. We like to get all googly eyed and tell each other how we feel everyday. ...not just on February 14. That's what relationships are all about. But that doesn't mean we don't have fun with Valentines Day. Glogirly would certainly never turn down chocolates, Waffles is a firm believer in celebrating everyday Valentines Day with chicken and Gloman is known to leave little love notes around the Townhouse for everyone. We're all very lucky to have found each other.

Finding 'The One' for Valentines Day
This year Best Friends Animal Society, in partnership with the Hallmark Channel, is offering pet adoption fees starting at $14 to help people find "The One." The national event is taking place February 1-15 at Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network partners across the counter.

Best Friends Animal Society likes having fun too. Instead of roses this year, they've shared with us a dozen reasons, some silly and some serious, why our #RelationshipGoals should include the adoption option. Unlike roses, chocolate, or giant stuffed teddy bears, adoption can and should last a lifetime.

A glorious, full-of-love lifetime.

Best Friends' A Dozen Reasons to Adopt:

1. Hanging with a pet (especially a CAT!) will give new meaning to “Netflix and chill.”

2. Your pet’s lasting love will make you never fear being “ghosted” again.

3. Adopting a pet will help you overcome that fear of commitment.

4. You’ll always have someone there to kiss you good morning, even before you brush your teeth.

5. Walking a cat on a harness and leash is a guaranteed attention-getter.

6. Chances are your pet will love to spoon and snuggle as much as you do, if not more.

7. Your new companion will give you a perfect reason to connect with other animal lovers.

8. More than 63 percent of people consider pets to be members of the family (according to the AVMA). So no matter what the configuration of a family unit, pets are a perfect source of love and companionship.

9. Finding true love is not only easy, it's guaranteed.

10. A pet will help you get accustomed to 24/7 adoration and unconditional love.

11. An adopted pet can help you become less self-centered, as you learn to put another’s needs before your own.

12. If you’re looking for love, but aren't quite ready to commit to forever, check with a local shelter or rescue to find out about fostering. It's a wonderful way to share your love.

We're very proud to be Ambassadors for Best Friends Animal Society and to share news and events we think will be of interest to our friends and readers.

More information about the promotion can be found at Best Friends The One

“If you’re looking to bring home a new pet, few people will argue that adopted animals reward their people with a depth of love and loyalty that pets from other sources often don’t seem to rival. They seem to know they were given a second chance, and they spend their lives repaying their families.”
~Gregory Castle, co-founder Best Friends Animal Society

Happy Valentines Day, friends!
