Waffles & the Dinnertime Reconnaissance Tour

WAFFLES:  Boss! What day is it? I can't remember what day it is.

KATIE:  Friday. Why?

WAFFLES:  I just want to make sure I don't sleep through Caturday.

KATIE:  Caturday? What about DINNER? You know, for a cat who's as food-obsessed as you are, you sure do sleep through dinnertime a lot. In fact, if I didn't send you out on your daily reconnaissance tour to remind Glogirly it's 4:59pm, we'd starve to death.

And speaking of 4:59pm–

WAFFLES:  GLOGIRLY!!!! The Boss says it's dinnertime!

KATIE:  Waffles! A little subtlety goes a long way. Now go into the living room, sit on the ottoman in front of Glogirly, and stare at her. Don't blink, don't look away, don't make a move until she does.

 About Today's Photos
We've shared the pre-mealtime dance routine that takes place daily here at the Townhouse. What you probably don't know is what goes on right before the dance begins.

Katie, the lead time monitor, keeps a close eye on her internal clock. She's getting ready to get ready for dinner long before the clock strikes 5pm. Glogirly is a little lackadaisical when it comes keeping a rigid and perfectly timed schedule.

Everyday, starting at about 4pm, Katie & Waffles meet in the kitchen. After what appears to be a close conversation, with instructions given by Katie, Waffles makes his first trek through the living room where Glogirly is usually working on her computer. The goal of course, is to gently remind her that it's dinnertime and she's got two cats who are at risk of starvation.

Sometimes it takes a couple of pass throughs. Sometimes Waffles has to sit and stare at her.

Worst case scenario, Katie has to make a final pass through. ...that's when Glogirly knows she means business.

And dinner is served.

  3. That's quite a routine! We all just leave it up to Binga... she slept all afternoon, but as soon as 6 PM rolled around, she was nagging my human for dinner, right on schedule!

I still miss her yeowl even after 11 months!
Now my youngest Gin Gin sits by the kitchen door, stares at me and licks her lips!

  13. What the Hello Kitty? I have to do the same stare down like every single day. TW put a small cat tree near the desk so I can rally stare and poke at her.

  15. They have a perfect plan in place! Our Natasha gives us a certain look--a hungry, pleading look--when it's close to dinnertime. Who can resist that?

  21. We had a sudden and unexpected tragedy early this morning. Our Koneko hadn't been feeling his best and overnight took a turn for the worse and left us for the Rainbow Bridge before the sun was even up today. Moko and Arata are missing him as are the two-legged family members and even our dogs (after having lost my deaf hound girl, Ran, last April - it was too soon for them both).

    2. Koneko was at least 14 (he found our yard just under 10 years ago and was definitely not a young cat even then). My daughter and I stopped by our town's shelter and actually applied to adopt a little boy that looks JUST like baby Waffles (they won't let us adopt since we are already over the legal limit, even with losing Koneko). His name is Novo, after our subdivision (Novo-Selo) - funny that he came from our subdivision, and we're very disappointed we can't bring him home to play with Arata. I'm sure we'll be adding another cat soon.
