Halloween Hats & Cats

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, can I borrow your hat?

KATIE:  You can HAVE my hat.

WAFFLES:  Cool! It matches my dress.

KATIE:  You do realize that dresses are typically for girls don't you? And by girls, I mean the two-legged kind. No self-respecting cat would be seen in purple satin, not to mention a tulle skirt.

WAFFLES:  Tool skirt? You mean like for my tape measure and hammer and stuff?

KATIE:  *sigh*

WAFFLES:  I bet the ladies really like a mancat who knows where to put his tools.

KATIE:  Waffles, I'm not going to touch that one. This is supposed to be a G-rated blog.

Halloween Flashback - 2013
Waffles' first Halloween and Waffles' first dress. (!) Apparently, the warlock costumes were all sold out. No worries though. Ever since he was just a few months old, Waffles has been very comfortable embracing his feminine side. Today, almost five years later, he's still trying to get Katie to embrace his feminine side. Ok, he just wants her to embrace any of his sides.

We were all just playing around with costumes on a Saturday afternoon in October. Katie and Waffles are both very good sports when it comes to wearing their harnesses. So occasionally we try out a costume as long as it's styled like a harness. But we've since hung up our hats. Both Katie and Waffles have decided that cats in hats are much better in Dr. Seuss books.

Happy Halloween!
Please stay safe everyone, and enjoy some fun-sized treats. Glogirly sure has been enjoying hers! Apparently, she forgot that we don't get any trick or treaters here in the mountains. Or maybe she didn't. LOL!

Office Cat Shenanigans

WAFFLES:  Watch this! I'm going to get the Boss to let me lay on the blue ottoman in the office with her. She'll never even see me coming.

KATIE:  Waffles. You're not going to try and sit here on this ottoman with me, are you?

WAFFLES:  Who, me?

KATIE:  Yes, you. You're the only other cat here.

WAFFLES:  But there's lots of room up there. I'm sure I can fit.

KATIE:   You're sure you can fit? My paw says you might not be so sure.

WAFFLES:  I'm going to need a plan B.

About Today's Photos
It's been sunny and beautiful in the mountains lately. That snow we had a couple of weeks ago is SO two weeks ago. And when the sun shines, Glogirly's office is THE place to be. Sun puddles from all directions. Even in the middle of the winter, it's the warmest room in the house. Ergo, prime cat space.

Though there's plenty of cozy spots to settle in for a nap, Waffles always has his eye on wherever Katie is lounging. The grass is always greener...or in this case the ottoman is always bluer.

Cocktail Lounges & Minibars: Part 3 of Katie & Waffles' Grand Hotel Adventure Flashback

KATIE:  Ooooh! A swanky cocktail lounge.

KATIE:  Nothing like the soft touch of velvet under my toes. Perhaps I'm a bit early for happy hour. Still, I'm sure they'll open the bar for me.

KATIE:  I'll take my Kitty Cosmo by the fire, please. With a twist of catnip. Hold the fruit.

KATIE:  What do you suppose Waffles is doing back in the hotel room right now?

*Meanwhile, eleven floors up...*
WAFFLES:  Who's got the minibar key?

WAFFLES:  YAAAAWWWWWN.

WAFFLES:  Still. Need. Minibar key.

WAFFLES:  Be very, very quiet.

WAFFLES:  MINI. BAR. KEY!!!

Day 3 of Katie & Waffles' Grand Hotel Adventure
This whole adventure started because of the big dishwasher flood. We had to temporarily move out of our townhouse while all the floors were replaced. Once Glogirly returned from her daily progress check at the Townhouse, she and Katie took the Waffle Wagon for a spin down to the hotel lobby. There's a beautiful seating area adjacent to the cocktail lounge where pets are welcome. People too. *wink* It was midday and very quiet which gave Katie a chance to stretch her legs and safely explore the space.

She even had a chance to meet some of the hotel staff. Cat lovers, of course. They were both admiring Katie's harness bling.

It's always fun traveling with cats because it's just so unexpected for people to see them out in public or at a hotel. It catches them by surprise. The Waffle Wagon is often mistaken for a child's stroller and when someone realizes there's a kitty on board, the smiles get even bigger. People LOVE to talk about their cats.

Meanwhile back in the room, Waffles was up to his usual antics. He's fascinated with anything that opens and closes. Doors and door frames, drawers, cabinets and yes, the mini bar fridge. The bathroom has a separate toilet room (can we say that???) with its own frosted glass door. So far we're up to a count of about 12 times that Waffles has closed himself in behind that door. It's now permanently propped open. So much for modesty.

Life High Among the Skyscrapers - Part 2 of Katie & Waffles' Grand Hotel Adventure Flashback

WAFFLES:  OMG, BOSS!  Did you see the view??? Look at all those sky scratchers! The sky must really be itchy.

KATIE:  Scrapers, Waffles. Those are sky SCRAPERS. You know, tall buildings. And there's no such thing as an itchy sky. Did you notice there aren't any birds up this high?

WAFFLES:  That's because they don't like flying in an itchy sky. And the squirrels are never going to be able to climb those sky buildings.

KATIE:  Whatever Waffles. I thought you were a city cat. You know, if we're going to stay in a chic downtown suite like this, you really ought to put on your sophisticated pants.

WAFFLES:  I don't think I packed those, Boss.

Day 2 of Katie & Waffles' Grand Hotel Adventure
Life is grand at the Grand! Katie & Waffles hung out in the room today while Glogirly checked in on the construction progress at the Townhouse. All of our furniture was moved out and the floors and cabinets were ripped up. We're told extra care was taken when handling our cat trees. Tomorrow installation of the new floor begins.

Just like on our vacation we took earlier this year, Katie has taken calm command of the hotel suite. Even away from home, she's queen of her castle. ...and she continually amazes everyone with how comfortable she is in such a new environment.

Though there's a BIG king size bed, she's not hidden under it even once. She'd rather lounge on top in plush comfort.

Waffles conducts regular rounds of the rooms, often sharing the songs of his people. He's adventurous, brave and quick to explore every nook and cranny. But he also needs a lot of reassurance. He's much more of a conversationalist than Katie.

It didn't take Waffles long to find the man chair. Midcentury modern and perfect for the sophisticated mancat-about-town.

Tomorrow we're taking the Waffle Wagon for a spin to explore the lobby. We'll also share more with you about where we're staying and their best-of-class pet policy. A lot of hotels say they're pet friendly. But the Kimpton Hotel Group, of which the Grand Hotel Minneapolis is part of, really means it.

Katie & Waffles Grand Hotel Adventure Flashback

It seems like only yesterday we were living the city cat life in downtown Minneapolis. It was actually 2015 when the dishwasher valve in our kitchen failed, resulting in a major 2-floor flood, we found ourselves living amongst soggy floors and sagging drywall. When it came time for the last leg of the repairs, we all had to move out for a little over a week. Who knew there'd be a swanky pet-friendly hotel just blocks away. We had such a great time in the hotel, we chronicled our stay and turned it into a fun blog series.

We hope you enjoy our adventure flashback through the eyes (and photos!) of Katie and Waffles.

KATIE:  Welcome to Day One of Katie & Waffles' Grand Hotel Adventure.

WAFFLES:  What's with the announcer voice, Boss?

KATIE:  Waffles, it's just a kick off for our week-long blog series.

WAFFLES:  A whole WEEK??? We better call room service, Boss. Your dish is empty. How am I going to steal your food if your dish is empty?

KATIE:  Mitts off, Waffles. Just because we're not at home doesn't mean you get to nose around my food. Townhouse rules still apply.

WAFFLES:  So how do I call room service again, Boss? Which button do I push?

KATIE:  The room service button.

WAFFLES:  And then what?

KATIE:  You tell them what you want.

WAFFLES:  You mean like ANYTHING???  Even –

KATIE:  No, Waffles. There's no KFC at the Grand Hotel.

WAFFLES:  But you said anything.

KATIE:  This is going to be a LONG week.

Day One of Katie & Waffles' Grand Hotel Adventure
After a full day of packing up the Townhouse and packing our bags, we finally checked into our hotel late last evening. Today's photos are just some quick snapshots we took before heading off to bed. Tomorrow when the light is beautiful (and we are too) we'll show you just how cool our swanky suite is while we explore all it has to offer.

Everyone is settling in nicely. Gloman is already fast asleep. Katie and Waffles have found some favorite napping places and Glogirly is tap tapping away on her laptop. Just like home!

The Beverly Hillkitties: TV Spoof Flashback Week

♩♫
Come and listen to a story 'bout an orange striped cat.
Waffles was his name, but the Boss - she called him Brat.

Hungry day & night, always stealing all her food,
Then up on the counter, he grabbed and he chewed.

Chicken, that is.
Fried gold.
Texas turkey.

♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫

TV Spoof Flashback Week!
Some of our most favorite TV spoofs are all about the theme song. Of course, finding words that rhyme with Waffles and orange is never easy! When it comes to living with Waffles, Katie would say that's never easy either.

The Beverly Hillbillies was a little before Glogirly's time, but thanks to reruns, she's seen ALL the episodes. And now, thanks to this blog post, she's got that banjo music stuck in her head.

And we bet you do too!

About Our TV "Trips"
From 2014-2015 we published a weekly feature called TV Trip Caturday, featuring some of Glogirly's favorite TV shows from the 70s and 80s. It gave her a chance to develop her Photoshop prowess and often, we included an adoptable kitty from PAWS Animal Welfare Society.

Here on Glogirly's Island: TV Spoof Flashback Week

WAFFLES:  Hey Skipper, um I mean Boss! Are you ready for a three hour detour?

KATIE:  Tour, Waffles. It's a three hour TOUR.

WAFFLES:  Where are we touring to, Boss?

KATIE:  Waffles, just sit right back and you'll hear a tale.

WAFFLES:  Oh my Cod, Boss! Your tail TALKS?

KATIE:  Not that kind of tail. A TALE of a fateful trip.
(PSSST! So this is where you should start reading with the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme song playing in your head ♩♬)

WAFFLES:  That started from our mountain house?

KATIE:  Aboard this tiny ship.

WAFFLES:  Um, Boss you're a mighty sailin' cat!

KATIE:  And you're no help at all.

WAFFLES:  Two CAT-engers set sail today!

KATIE:  For a three-hour tour.

WAFFLES:  A THREE HOUR tour!?

KATIE:  So join us here each week our friends

WAFFLES:  You're sure to get a smile

KATIE:  From these two kitty castaways

WAFFLES:  Here on Glogirly's Isle!

Little Cats on the Prairie: TV Spoof Flashback Week

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, nice bonnet.

KATIE:  Yeah, well look who's wearing braids and playing with dolls.

WAFFLES:  Uh, Boss? I have to go.

KATIE:  Go where? To the general store to buy more penny catnip?

WAFFLES:  NO, Boss. I have to GO-go.

KATIE:  What, didn't you go before we left 2018?

WAFFLES:  Bo-ossssss!

KATIE:  I hate to tell you Waffles, but it's 1874 and indoor litter boxes haven't been invented yet.

WAFFLES:  Uh, I think I'll just hold it.

Colorado Cats and Snow Hooky

WAFFLES:  It's been snowing and all foggy and stuff this week, so we've been busy playing Snow Hooky.

WAFFLES:  So Boss, what's a snow hooky? Do I need ice skates to play? How 'bout a hooky puck?

KATIE:  Please make him stop. I thought we were all supposed to be napping by the fire. Quietly napping.

Our first mountain snow of the season!
Though only a few inches of snow fell, we've been fogged in since last week. Ergo, a great time to play snow hooky. Truth be told, Glogirly has been using this time to catch up on house projects and cleaning. Ok, there may have been a nap or two inserted into the schedule. And a little Netflixing.

Here's a video of Glogirly's trip back from the mailbox. (!)

A couple of days ago, our neighbors stopped by for a snack.

And as the fog lifted this morning, we woke up to an incredibly beautiful sunrise.

Mr. Sun should be making an appearance soon though, so by the time you're reading this on Friday, all of our snow will likely be gone! That's just one of the things that makes Colorado so magical this time of the year. We can have snow one day, and toasty sun the next. We can wake up above the clouds with the sunrise coloring the sky pink.
