WAFFLES:  Whatcha doing, Boss?

 KATIE:  Practicing my beauty poses. Tilt head, eyes up, over the shoulder–

WAFFLES:  Wow, Boss. I didn't know you had to practice all that beauty stuff. 

KATIE:  It's all about playing to the camera, Waffles. Knowing your best features and accentuating the positive. 

WAFFLES:  Accentuating? Like with a British accent? Or maybe French. I bet the ladies would like–

KATIE:  No, Waffles. Just point your best feature towards the camera. For me, it's my eyes. For you–

WAFFLES:  How's THIS, Boss?!

KATIE:  Yeah, I don't know I'd call that your best feature. You have nice eyes, Waffles. Try that.

WAFFLES:  Wow, Boss! You think I have nice eyes? 

KATIE:  Just look towards the camera already. Sometime today.

WAFFLES:  What if I blink? Or what if I have an itch?

KATIE:  Don't overthink it, Waffles. 

WAFFLES:  Over what??

KATIE:  Three words. Beauty school dropout.

About Today's Photos 

If you've been visiting us for awhile now, you know that Glogirly has taken thousands of photos. 95% of them are of Katie and Waffles. 3% are of other cats. And that last 2% are of the floor, her feet or the inside of her lens cap.

Of those thousands of photos, virtually all of Katie's are elegant, ladylike and demure. With Waffles as her inspiration, Katie's also mastered her sarcastic are-you-kidding-me glare. Like Zoolander's Blue Steel, it's become her signature look.

Waffles, on the other hand, is anything but serious. That's one of the reasons Glogirly loves photographing him so much. When his fun-seeker personality shines through, he's like the cat of a thousand faces. She loves catching him looking up, looking guilty or with his mouth open, meowing and talking.

No surprise, the looking guilty thing comes quite naturally to him.

WAFFLES:  Boss! It's like a gazillion minutes after 8:00. Where's breakfast?

KATIE:  Waffles, what on earth are you doing up there?

WAFFLES:  Looking for breakfast.

KATIE:  On top of the kitchen cabinets?

WAFFLES:  It says EAT up here. I'm just following directions.

KATIE:  Waffles, I'm not sure what's more surprising. That you can read or that you're 11 feet up in the air.

WAFFLES:  Eleven what? 

KATIE:  Feet. Up.

WAFFLES:  In the AIR?

 WAFFLES:  I've got to get down from here! Boss, how do I get down?



15 minutes and 1 broken vase later

KATIE:  Guess you should have thought about an exit strategy before you climbed up the 11 foot obstacle course we call the kitchen.

Fireplace Cats

KATIE:  Waffles, you're hogging the fire again. You've got the primo spot. 

WAFFLES:  Yeah but I'm all comfortable and everything. Glogirly even moved my red chair right in front of the fireplace for me. 

KATIE:  Did you say your red chair? Why is it that every chair in the house is yours, regardless of color?

WAFFLES:  What can I say? I have a lot of chairs.

Kitty, It's Cold Outside
While much of the country is sweltering in unseasonably hot weather, we're breaking out the firewood here in the Colorado mountains. Guess Glogirly got all that firewood stacked in the nick of time! (If you missed Waffles counting all the firewood, just click HERE)

With temps hovering around 40, there's nothing quite like a roaring fire to keep us all cozy-warm. Waffles and Katie have been taking turns with Glogirly by the fire, though Waffles has definitely been monopolizing the best spots.

Perhaps when it's even colder, they'll both join Glogirly at the fireplace...at the same time. Maybe.

Guest Room Aftermath

KATIE:  It's about time. Once again this blue chair is mine, all mine.

WAFFLES:  I kind of liked hanging out with Miss Laura in her bed. She smells nice. 

KATIE:  Seriously, Waffles...you'll sleep with anyone. 

WAFFLES:  Not anyone, Boss. I still haven't slept with you.

KATIE:  In your dreams, Waffles. 

And my nightmares. 

About Today's Photos

We said goodbye to our friend Miss Laura, a.k.a Z-Girl from Squeedunk Cats this morning. When Glogirly got home from dropping her at the airport, both Katie and Waffles were sleeping peacefully in her room. Curled up in the blankets sheets. Pretty sure Katie was claiming her territory back, but Waffles was clearly wondering where his new sleeping pal had gone. 

A fabulous time was had by all! And though we don't have photographic proof, nor do we expect you to even believe us - Katie allowed Z-Girl three brief pets. This makes Z-Girl one of only two people other than immediate family to ever make physical contact with Katie. And one of those two was the vet, so that hardly counts!

WAFFLES:  Z-Girl! Where are you??? 

Tail Envy #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Did you know my tail is almost TWICE as long as the Boss' tail? She calls me a nature freak.

KATIE:  Freak of Nature, Waffles. FREAK of NATURE.

WAFFLES:  Jeez, Boss. You don't have to freak out on me.

KATIE:  I'm not freaking out, Waffles. You're the–

WAFFLES:   Boss, if you like my tail so much, just say so and I'll borrow it to you.

KATIE:  A 15" striped orange tail? *shakes head* I don't know how you mancats walk around with those things.

That Cat Lady Magic

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, so what do you think of the new Cat Lady? Did you smell her yet?

KATIE:  Smell her? Are you kidding? She'll be lucky if I let her in the same room as me.

*24 hours later*

Wait, What???

Our dear friend Z-Girl from Squeedunk Cats is visiting us here in the mountains. It's a little R&R, hiking, sightseeing, wine and of course... cats.

Waffles isn't the only one who's been warming up to our latest houseguest. Many have tried but few have succeeded in making contact (amicable contact, that is) with Katie. We call that Cat Lady Magic.

The Calm Before the Houseguest Storm

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, you sure have been napping a long time.

KATIE:  We're cats, Waffles. That's what we do. 

WAFFLES:  Yeah, but are you ever going to let me nap in Glogirly's chair by the window? 

KATIE:  Maybe when the next round of houseguests arrive. I'll be stationed in the walk-in closet. Threat level orange.

WAFFLES:  Orange? Our houseguest is orange?

KATIE:  Of course not, Waffles. *Yawn* But she's a cat lady, so expect lots of smells and a layer of foreign fur on her clothes. 

WAFFLES:  You mean like from France?

Incoming!

We've got a surprise guest arriving for a mountain visit tomorrow, all the way from Jersey City. She's a dear friend of Glogirly and an admirer of Katie and Waffles. In fact, she was admiring Katie before there even was a Waffles.

We call that Pre-Waffles, or as Katie refers to it, The Calm Before the Orange Cat Storm.

Waffles On the Computer #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! I think I should start my own blog.

KATIE:  We already have a blog, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Yeah but it's not really my blog. It's all pink and girly. I want mine.

KATIE:  There's a lot that goes into blogging, Waffles. Are you sure you're up to the task?

WAFFLES:  I think I'll name it "Waffles the Amazing-Handsome-Supercat."  Do you like it, Boss? It's got a ring, doesn't it?

KATIE:  It's got something alright. 

WAFFLES:  Cool. I'm all set. Now I just have to spend the day on the computer. 

KATIE:  Aren't you going to start writing? 

WAFFLES:  Writing? What writing? I'm busy. Can't you see I'm on the computer?

KATIE:  Waffles, blogging isn't about spending the whole day ON the computer.

WAFFLES:  What do you mean? That's what Glogirly does.

Rest assured, Waffles is most certainly not starting his own blog. Gloman was in town for 11 glow-rious days. Plenty of time some man-to-mancat bonding.

Of course, Glogirly and Katie were tickled to be with him too and are already counting the days until his next visit. If weather permits, Glogirly, Katie and Waffles just might squeeze in an October road trip back to Minneapolis. WooHoo!

Waffles and Katie's Neighborhood Watch

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, where'd the neighbors go? I haven't seen them in forever.

KATIE:  Waffles, it's not polite to watch the neighbors. Especially with binoculars.

WAFFLES:  But if they don't catch me looking at them, it's like I never looked. Right?

KATIE:  You mean like if you steal food from my dish but I don't catch you in the act, you never stole it?

WAFFLES:  There's food in your dish???

About Today's Photos

As the seasons start to shift and we head into fall, we're saying goodbye to some of our most favorite "neighbors." Our mountain home has been a hot spot for the local hummingbirds all summer long. Glogirly's homemade juice is top on our hummingbird's favorite menu and we've seen 100s of these fast-flying beauties. But September 1 marks their gradual migration south. There are still a couple of stragglers filling up on nectar before their long trip to warmer weather. We're sure going to miss them!

Paws crossed that our deer family and the little red fox stop by for a visit. Until then, Katie and Waffles will have to resort to Nat Geo and Netflix for their wildlife viewing pleasure.
