No Ammonia Smell? Really.

One of the fringe benefits of Katie and Waffles' whole food diet is a greatly diminished litter box smell when it comes to #2. But there's been little we could do about the ammonia smell that often lingers behind when it comes to #1. We've been very pleased with how the new Tidy Cats LightWeight with Ammonia Blocker has performed. When they say it blocks ammonia odor for two weeks, they really do mean it. 

We have three litter boxes, each located in different areas of our home. We tried out Tidy's new litter in two of them and even left one unscooped for a few days more than our normal scooping schedule. Both of the Tidy boxes remained odor free...even the one with more clumps hanging around than normal. 

Lightweight...aaahh!

With just two cats, we don't go through nearly as much litter each month as some of our friends. But even still, the weight can really add up. With a standard-weight litter, we go through about 40 pounds every 3-4 weeks. And we order it online, 120 pounds at a time! (Apologies to our UPS man.) Tidy's lightweight litters cut that amount in half. 

Dust, Tracking & Scent

Many lightweight litters can tend to be a little dustier than their standard-weight counterparts. We were thrilled to discover this is not the case with this new formula. The dust was very minimal, even when pouring the litter into an empty box. 

Tracking was on par with virtually all the litters we've tried out. There's always going to be some just outside the box, but it's not excessive and in our experience, doesn't track outside the bathroom into the other rooms at all.

We'll be honest, we're not fans of scented litters and that's something we've shared with Tidy Cats before. We would LOVE it if they were to offer a fragrance-free formula, lightweight or not. So when Glogirly went to the store to pick out our litter for this test and review, she opened up all of the new Ammonia-Blocker jugs so she could compare the various scents. One, in particular was very subtle, with a mild, clean and fresh scent. It's the Tidy Cats LightWeight with Glade Tough Odor Solutions, 'Clear Springs'. It's just as mild at home as it was in the store and we've been pleasantly surprised at how much we don't even notice the scent at all. 

If you're sensitive to fragrance like we are, we highly recommend this particular formula, though we also understand if you suffer from asthma or allergies, you may need to stick to a strictly fragrance-free litter.
