Waffles Background Check

Very first photo of Waffles Too at the Animal Humane Society
Hi everyone, Katie here.

Glogirly tells me you're falling over yourselves, wanting to know more about Waffles Too and where on earth he came from. Yesterday more than a couple of you commented that MY photo was dramatically smaller than Waffles'...some even wondered if I'd given up on MY blog. Well, I'm here to tell you this IS and will ALWAYS be, MY BLOG.

So I guess this means *I* have to tell you about the little orange maniac cat.

Late at night, when Glogirly should have been visiting my blogging friends, she was actually surfing the web, looking at kittens on Petfinder.com. She found two little orange boys at the Animal Humane Society of Buffalo, Minnesota. Buffalo is about 45 minutes west of my downtown Minneapolis townhouse. A long way to drive if you ask me. A week ago yesterday, she grabbed my PTU and left in a hurry. As I told you before, I thought she must have be taking my PTU to the trash.

While I was high-pawing myself at home over the demise of my PTU, she was playing with these two guys at the Humane Society.

L-R: Herbie & Waffles Too

The crazy guy doing a half-nelson on the white pawed kitten is Waffles Too. The shelter people called him Jackson. That's his brother Herbie, trying to escape his grip.

L-R:  Herbie & Waffles Too

Glogirly had a REALLY hard time deciding which kitten to adopt. She wanted them BOTH. Can you imagine??? Thank Cod she came to her senses and only brought ONE home. She said a very sweet family that was there adopted Waffle Too's brother as she was doing her paperwork. They also had a sister, but she'd been adopted the previous day.

Waffles and his sibs were surrendered as an unwanted litter. We don't really know anything else about him, like who his mom and dad are or if he was given any maple syrup early on.

Evidence has shown that Waffles Too is a trouble maker. Only four days after Glogirly brought him home, she discovered a strange lump in his armpit. She rushed back to the Vet (where Waffles actually has FUN...told you he was crazy) to find out what it was. Turns out it was a CAT BITE. Ok, I know what you're thinking. STOP right there. Waffles had been in quarantine ever since he arrived and I did NOT have ANY contact with him WHATSOEVER.

Waffles Too at the V-E-T

The Vet said that these things commonly show up days after the actual incident, so Waffles probably got in a tussle at the shelter. See? I TOLD you he was a trouble maker.

So now he's on a banana-flavored (bleh) oral antibiotic made for human kids because the bite got infected. He's so wiggly that it takes Glogirly AND Gloman to give him his medicine. For the record, I would NEVER be that difficult.

In the meantime, Waffles has been enjoying his luxurious accommodations in the Kitten Room...outfitted with all of MY stuff.  Glogirly sneaks in there all the time. She thinks I don't notice. Yeah, right.

  3. Oh Katie, he does look like a crazy maniac! He is acting completely out of his league! You better be careful you poor little innocent Kitty (with yet another tiny picture).

*Squeeeee*... we don't know where that came from????!!!!

  4. Kittens are supposed to be maniacs Katie. I think you should get used to it. Figaro is 3 and he's still acting like a big kitten. A BIG kitten.

  5. Oooooh, poor little thing. We know you will be nice to him, RIGHT Katie? RIGHT?

  6. Allie: *sigh*
    The "sneaking in" part?

SOMEone *glares at Father* decided I had a strong enough Constitution to meet the Terrible two immediately upon arrival.

Seriously, sometimes these scientist types don't have it all together.

Though, come to think of it... he's more of a rip-the-bandage-off-all-at-once guy.

Which would translate to "fling poor Allie into the deep end" where two maniacal little monsters are concerned.

Katie, upon further reflection...can I come live with you?

  7. Katie, I hope you know some self defense tactics for when his door cracks. Especially since you say he is a maniac. I mean, I'm sure you don't want to be taking those banana flavored meds too... just sayin!

  8. So nice all three kitties got adopted. By the way Waffles Too is biting on Herbie, we bet Herbie is responsible for Waffles' infected armpit. Hope it all clears up quickly. Katie, you can come and live here for a while if you wish, until Waffles Too learns some less maniacal behavior.

  9. After seeing these pics, we are not the least bit surprised that he has a cat bite! Hope it all gets cleared up ASAP. Let us know and we'll send Princeton over to wear him down. MOL! (course there wouldn't be any townhouse left...)

  10. Ohhhh Miss Katie... be careful, he's cute enough to get away with stuff. Obnoxious stuff. *glaring at cute Hammy*

  11. Uh-oh. He's Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with G and that stands for Goon. I gots my FURRari--should I come 'round and pick you up?

  12. Katie, you are SO lucky your human did not bring back both those kittens! That's probably what my human would have done, with the justification that they could "keep each other busy and not bother the grown up kitties too much." GAH! Flawed, totally flawed logic!!!

I need to put some sort of human-safe browsing software on my computer, and make sure Petfinder is blocked.

  13. He IS cute! But you're obviously still and always the star!

  14. Oh we think he is so cute he will be forgiven. Have a marvelous Monday.

  16. Of course this will always be YOUR blog, Katie. You're the real star!

When just after Newton came home from the rescue group, he became a very sick little kitten. He went to the V-E-T so much and was so adorable that when the humans would call for an appointment for another cat, the receptionist would ask if Newton could visit, too! Humans are so silly about kittens.

  17. I am an expert and I can tell that Waffles Too is going to be a maniac cat.

  18. We just don't know what to say Katie, we thinks you better watch out for Waffles Too he may try to put the bitey on YOU!!!!!

  19. Our condolences Katie! He's got trouble written all I've him! The NERVE of enjoying the v-e-t on top of it all! Hope your week improves ....

  20. Oh dearest Katie,
Count yourself lucky. One lovely Friday evening in 2006 my family returned home with a small orange kitten. They coo'd and baby talked the little brat all weekend long only to leave early Monday morning to return with his brother. They just couldn't break up the set and my humom's mother was in love with the brother they'd left behind. That was the beginning of the end to peace as I knew it. About 6 months later the man came in with Hitch. Something about almost running over the little street rat. Now I have three, yes 3, brofurs. So count yourself lucky that Glogirly only arrived home with 1 little orange monster. Good luck to you, you'll need it.
    Purrs to you

  21. Katie, you realize that with no other kitten maniac to focus on, Waffles Too will direct all his attention toward YOU. ;-p

Glogirly should have gone for his brother too! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just the fact that he's orange means he's trouble in our books. MOL. But he's such a cute orange menace.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh boy, can you imagine the chaos if your mom had brought home two kittens? But then again, if she had, they would play with each other and leave you alone. . .

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm glad we got to see just a little bit of you, Katie! Though Waffles is cute and nice to look at.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh Katie! I don't blame you for being put out but, never fear, you KNOW you can never be replaced in your hoomans' hearts! You're the one & only KATIE!!

Heh ... I know from troublemaking. I think I'd advise you to prepare with my Patented Smacky Paws for when that little terror ... um, cutie pie ... comes out of quarantine. He'll have to be taught who's boss ASAP.

    Wishing you much luck!

  26. Hmmm.... good thing you were able to get that background check done on Waffles Too. One never knows with these kittens. But I do know this, he's pretty darned cute! purrs

  27. Good luck, Katie...him being a trouble maker doesn't stop now that he's adopted. It only means he has to look for someone to be trouble too. Guess who that might be? *wink*

  28. I think you should send him back cos he's obviously defective. His brofur is adorable. I'm glad he found a forever home and it wasn't yours or mine. MOL!

  29. We are pretty sure he's got a hidden syrup stash--where else would he he all his maniacal energy?

Mommy says red-headed kittens are the World's Nortiest, EVAR. Felix was terrible and didn't sleep for, like, two or three YEARS.

  30. come on you know you want to rough house with him!

  31. Well my friend, I am happi dat you not had contact wif him - so u not in danger of getting sickie.
You 'members to show him who 'da boss is when u comes face to face wif him.

  32. Ohhh Waffles Too is going to be A LOT of fun! I can tell by his expression lol.

So happy that you adopted him and I am happy he is on the mend from his cat bite!

Cody was around the same age when I adopted him so this is bringing back some great memories. He also had a brother and sister who were in his cage (I actually wanted THEM but they didn't like me!) Cody was my THIRD choice to pick up and hold and that was it! His litter was also surrendered.

This little guy is gonna add some fun spark to your scene there...should be a blast!

BTW LOVE your PTU!!! LOVE IT!

  33. Kittens, kittens, kittens... we just can't get away from these maniacal, wiggly, and uncouth creatures that the humans can't seem to get enough of. I tell you, when I partake in full-nelson wrestling with my other cat-mates, no one finds it endearing... I actually get scolded sometimes…

Whatever. Thank goodness for the gratuitous Katie photo or I don't know what I'd do...

  34. Waffle Two, welcome to your new furrever home. I'm a new kitty too, but not as young as you. But we've both been rescued and chosen, and isn't that AWESOME??

  35. OMC! How she could have ever chosen one over TWO (potentially) trouble maniac ginger boys is beyond us. Our Mom actually SQUEAKED when she saw that photo. Hope you can get along soon! Purrs from your ginger admirers at Colehauscats.com

  42. Ateret has been following this story quite closely, Katie. She says she sees trouble-making in Waffles Too's eyes. She hopes you remember you're the Big Girl and so you can be the boss of everything.

  43. Hi Katie, listen - I like cats. If Glogirly and Gloman start bringing home too many other cats and you feel a little crowded. You can stay with us. We have really good food and treats and our friend Kathy, who I think your mom knows lives up here too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Looks like he gives as good as he gets...

    Glad he's feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, Katie. You can see that Waffles is very full of himself! You are going to have to lay down the law with him.

Those cat bites. I'll tell you, they are sneaky. Everything seems just fine. You don't even notice that there is a bite and then boom! An abscess. It sounds like Glogirly was very vigilant and got it taken care of right away! Sometimes they get so bad you have to have something called a Penrose drain put in!

  46. Katie dear,
It's what the humans would call Karma my dear....here we have a tuxie creating havoc in a six-tabby household and over there you have a tabby making chaos in a tuxie household. What if we exchange Waffles Too with Seb? You can have a tuxie brofur while we'll have our own orange tabby? purrr....meow!
