Waffles Wednesday: Refrigerator Kitten

Um, hi everybuddy. Waffles Too here.

If you were following us on Facebook last night you probably read about the *shriek* heard round the interwebs. Glogirly says I got in big trouble. But I'm in a cent, I tell you, in a cent. Just look at this face.

It was midnight. I was minding my own business, practicing my zoomies, while Glogirly was busy blogging. I found a cool secret spot behind the big steel ham safe. All I had to do was jump onto the kitchen counter and shimmy between the ham safe and Gloman's coffee crusher. No one saw me do it, so it wasn't wrong. Right?

When Glogirly heard something suspicious coming from the kitchen, she came looking for me. I thought she'd be proud of me and my new spot. But when she discovered I was trapped playing behind the big steel ham safe she SHRIEKED. She was calling my name, reaching her fingers around back to play, she even tried to move the big steel hame safe, but it wouldn't budge.

All of the spaces around the ham safe are really tiny...less than a one inch gap.  But I found the one and only 3 inch gap. A perfect passageway to my play spot.

After about 30 minutes, Glogirly ran upstairs to wake Gloman. I'm sure she wanted him to come play with us. But by the time he was half way down the steps, I was out and looking for a new spot for all of us to play. Gloman didn't say a word, just turned around and headed back upstairs. He looked kinda funny with his squinty eyes and wild hair.

Glogirly said she didn't know whether to glare at me, hug me, or get down on her hands and knees and thank Cod for my olympian jumping skills.

Hi everyone, Katie here.

For the record, I had absolutely nothing to do with this incident.
In fact, I slept through the whole thing.
But this morning I heard all about it.
ALL about it.

  4. What a great idea! Would you believe that with 9 of us and all of our guardian angels...not ONE of us every thought of that trick. Nice work Waffles!

  7. Yeesh! What is it with young boys and squeezing into the oddest places?? When Leo was new here, he hid UNDER a tv cabinet that was only a few inches of space! How he got his huge body in there, I'll never know..
May I say that Waffles Too's ear tufts are truly squee-worthy!

  8. Wow, you got lots of attention for that smooth move Waffles. We will have to try that for ourselves and see what happens.

  10. Why do you orange boys like to hide in teeny tiny spots? When Carmine was about 3, we moved from one apartment to another. He decided he didn't want to move, so he sneaked under this tiny hole under the apartment stove! We couldn't find him anywhere, and I started panicking because I thought he escaped somehow. When we found him under the stove, one of our friends had to spend about 20 minutes trying to get him out. The stove was not movable, and we all started to worry a lot! We finally got him out, much to his dismay, though.

Be careful, Waffles! We don't want you to get stuck somewhere you can't get out of, okay?

  11. Oh Waffles, you will give your mommy many gray hairs if you keep this up! Good thing you're so cute! Katie, we believe you!

  12. Ut oh....We imagine there is a lot of "how do we close that spot" talk going on at your house today. Humans always know how to ruin a good play spot.

    We're glad you're safe!

  13. Oh, Waffles! You gave Glogirly quite a scare!

Small cats can get into the most unexpected spots. When Talia was a kitten, we lived in a house where the sink was in the corner and the cabinets came together at an angle, with the dishwasher sitting right next to it. Talia, being small and still bottle-fed sized, managed to fit up into the V-shaped hole under the lip of the cabinet where it came together at an angle (shoddy carpentry work!) and was hidden and crying behind the kickplate of the dishwasher. The head peep was frantic and managed to remove the kickplate to free her. To prevent the incident from happening again, she put duct tape over the shoddy carpentry hole. She tells people that she wonders if that duct tape is still there almost 20 years later. The spot was so unexpected, it might be...

  15. Griffin found himself a great tiny, tiny hiding spot in the baseboards of our old apartment when he was a young'un-- I " had to" tear the cabinet apart to get him out! Orange boys!

  17. oh, Waffily-Waffles, you are so clever! We used to squeeze behind and between anything we could, but seeing as how Mrs. Whatsername is not the housekeeper Glogirly is, it really wasn't so pleasant. Dust bunnies are not as tasty as they might seem.
    Keep up the good work.

  31. Waffles Too, you're really something. Right before my first birthday, Mama told me I was such a trouble maker that I might not make it. I almost didn't 'cause I slammed through the screen door and got myself lost. Mama found me in the last place she looked. Take a lesson from me, stop while you're ahead! Purrs, your friend Livia.

  43. Oh Katie, are you telling us that you didn't have one eye trained on your nemesis? That you didn't tell him there was a "back door" to the ham safe?

  44. Yes, I think I heard that scream. I thought it was the lady next door. You could of gotten him out with a peacock feather. Or you could've left him there and dropped kibble for him. MOL!

  48. W2, you are totally in a cent. Love that face, and I know you are not finished with your adventures. After all, you need your own spots. Manhattan used to climb into my box spring to hide. This was after Coco had taken great care as a kitten to fashion a hole for easy access. (I was unaware of the hole until I couldn't find M)...
Just be careful, you know... electrical wires...

  49. W2, I think you could jump on top of the steel ham box and then get up onto the cabinet. I bet it would be fun to sit up there with those "EAT" letters.
