Hi everyone, Katie here.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kittenhood is not all it's cracked up to be. Sure you get to eat as much as you want of the good stuff. The world, or at least the Townhouse, is your playground. And if you're really lucky, you've got a 7 year-old tuxedo cat to stalk and torment.
Alas, there's these little things (some are pretty big) called SHOTS. I'm not talking about tequila and lime wedges or those silly jello things your humans kicked back when they were younger.
VACCINATIONS. With NEEDLES.
Waffles Too has been to the Vet FIVE times since he showed up at the Townhouse.
1. Kitten well-check
2. Kitten cold and bite wound abscess. (NO I didn't do it...he came that way.)
3. Vaccination
4. Another Vaccination
5. The Big-Boy Vaccinations (rabies and distemper)
If these paws are any indication of what's to come...he's going to be HUGE. |
NOTE: I probably don't need to mention (but I will) that each visit required the ceremonious taking of the temperature.
You'd think this would bring me some sort of "get-even" pleasure. Yet, the orange beast actually likes these Vet visits. Purrs when that thermometer...well, you get the idea.
La de da...just another Vet visit. Sure, go ahead poke me, prod me. I don't mind. |
Everyone knows that MY vet file has been "flagged." Extra precautions (armpit length suede gloves) are necessary when welcoming ME into the office. It's a reputation I'm quite proud of.
Waffles Too has no flags. The Vet Techs see his name on their roster and they come skipping out from the back squeeing, "Waffles! Waffles! Waffles is here!!!" Something about him being their favorite kitten. Such public display of affection... it's ridiculous really.
Glogirly and Waffles Too would like to thank the great (according to them) staff at Westgate Pet Clinic in Edina, Minnesota. Frankly I don't see the attaction...but they love everyone there.
Don't forget to vote for Waffles Too in the 1-800-PetMeds Cat Naps & Dog Dreams Competition!!! The orange boy is in 2nd place behind a DOG. Every share and every tweet gets him a vote. You can only share once, but you can tweet to your heart's content and each tweet generates a vote! Just click here:
Such a sweet boy! I am melting... :-)
ReplyDeleteSmoochies to both of you!
looloo
You must be kidding! All my cats liked the vet until they got the idea that visiting Dr. Auntie Karla means pokies. The change was always after the second visit. Waffles Too, you're quite a character.
ReplyDeleteHolly feels the same way you do, Katie. Those vet techs have never even been able to get a temperature on her. And I'm 90% sure her chart is flagged, too.
ReplyDeleteOMC he's huge! Wow he is going to be one big cat! Did you know that some cats actually purr when they are nervous or scared? Lots of cats used to purr when we took their temperature. He looks pretty brave though so iono...
ReplyDeleteBIG boy that Waffles Too. Like Sherpa. Must be the orange. Sherpa came from the shelter as a teeny, tiny little fluffball. Now he is HUGE. 12lbs of catti-tude.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Katie.
Good luck.
Holy cod, he is getting to be such a big boy! Pretty soon, he'll be Princeton's size. Then the real trouble starts!
ReplyDeleteKatie, we're sorry, really. We just can't help it: SQUEE. And SQUEE again.
ReplyDeleteI have a bone to pick with you, however. What is this nonsense I read at another site-which-shall-remain-nameless saying "I hope your Ravens win"??
EXCUSE ME? But......WTF? And I'll bet you know JUST what those letters stand for.
I agree with you, that temperature taking business is not cool, I get growly and cranky when they do that to me. The last time I went they had the nerve to stick more than just the thermometer there, they could have told Mum to bring a poo sample, but nooooo. You get the picture. It didn't go well for the vet peepul from then on.
ReplyDeleteMum thinks that Waffles is very cute. I had big feets when I was a little one, and now I'm a big 18 pounds of manly mancat.

Brulee was like that on her last visit to the vet. We think Truffle is starting to get the reputation like Katie.
ReplyDeletePee ess - we just love the pictures Glogirly takes of the two of you. Our mom wants lessons!
Waffles is crazy! I am so scared of the vet I tremble the whole time I am there! I guess this makes me easy to handle... but it's so stressful on me!
ReplyDeleteI was OK with Vets until they decided to take bluds but really the main reason I dislike going to the vet has to do with the car ride. Audrey too.
ReplyDeleteI swear to Cod I read that as "he has no fangs" and for a moment I was filled with a fleeting exquisite sense of bittersweet uncharacteristic tenderness. *phew* glad that's over with!
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Ms Stella O Houligan
Well, Katie, I guess there's something to be glad for, you only have to go, what? Once a year for shots? Lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteWaffles Too is a cutie, but goodness, makes you wonder if Robyn over at Love and Hisses isn't right after all: kittens heads are filled with marshmallow fluff! He *likes* the thermometer?! That boy ain't right!
Waffles you are an inspiration! Austin is such a wuss puss!! ;) But then I reckon you know you are going to be as big as a lion!!
ReplyDeleteOh no not the dreaded dogtor. We no like. We have not been much but the few times I can't get out quick enough. I've seen what they do to ancient Pip. Waffles will learn Katie the hard way. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
It's an orange cat thing. Newton LOVES vet visits (except when they manscape his armpits), and when the peeps call to make appointments for the other cats, the receptionists always ask, "Is Newton coming, too?"
ReplyDeleteDon't worry no one will blame you!! You've tried to teach him, we can all see that!
ReplyDeleteWaffles is insane! Maybe since they love him & he loves them, you could work out a deal so he lives with them ... Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh Waffles, you've got a lot to learn, boy.
ReplyDeleteThis was just too darned adorable and that close up of Waffles face..he has the most teeny-tiny nose...so precious! Love those paws!
ReplyDeleteTHIS cracked me up: "The Vet Techs see his name on their roster and they come skipping out from the back squeeing, "Waffles! Waffles! Waffles is here!!!"
xoxoxo
BTW Cody was the same as a kitten...just like Waffles, he LOVED the vet. He doesn't adore it now but he is super good there. Waffles probably will always be good there too :)
Good Cod. What is Glogirly feeding Waffles! Those are ginormous paws!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was like that as a kitten. Then I grew up and learned that the vet was an evil place. Waffles Too...you will learn.
ReplyDeleteWally
He's getting so big- and beautiful. Sigh, they grow up too fast.
ReplyDeletexxoo
Maggie
Raz likes the VET too! Maybe it's a kitten thing??? Young and innocent?
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Loved how you said your vet chart is flagged, Katie! I'm surprised they don't have one of those face shield masks to go with the armpit length gloves :)
ReplyDeleteWaffles is having lots of vet visits lately. Thankfully it's not you, Katie!
ReplyDeleteOink oink,
Katie and Coccolino the mini pig
OMG - Waffles is so adorable I want to reach through the screen and scoop him up. And yes, orange kitties only come in one size- HUGE. I've got an orange kitty - he's 6 now, and huge and dumb and sweet as candy apples...It's an orange kitty thing.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your posts - When does our little man make the ultimate trip to the vet that changes his cathood forever??
ReplyDeleteWaffles likes the thermomethingie? We know he's squeeably adorable but he may not be right in the kitten noggin. Just an observation...
ReplyDeletesquee!! that close up shot at the end is so adorable!!
ReplyDeleteOhmahgoodness, that Waffles Too is a serious looker! What a cuuuuuutie!
ReplyDeleteHeh heh, he'll learn. Last time I went to the v.e.t. they didn't get to do nothing to me. I gave the V.e.t. a bite she won't soon forget. I'm sure I'm flagged. One of my Twitter furrends has to be GASSED when she goes to the v.e.t. The peeps are looking for another v.e.t. cos they actually think they're gonna take me.
ReplyDeleteI would not want to see a kitten with a shot of tequila in him.
ReplyDeleteWaffles, when your brain kicks in and you aren't just four legs catapulting you forward, you'll learn the vet's is where you proudly bare your fangs! Um, but on the other hand, we have a few over here who let vets poke and prod to their heats' content so they have lots to learn yet ,too :)
ReplyDeletethe critters in the cottage xo
WOW! Judging from that last pic, Katie, is he mainlining HGH or something? MOL (Or should that be KGH - Kitty Growth Hormone?) Either way, he's one handsome dude!
ReplyDeleteI wanna see the staff donning those gloves when you come to visit, Katie! Kick tail, girl!
PURRS!
Selina
Hee hee--I had a cat whose behavior at the vet's was well documented! W2 has been handled way too much to even mind going to the vet :)
ReplyDeletewaffles...dood...keep up de grate werk...de plan iz werkin....we toll ya it just kneaded a wee bit oh time...
ReplyDeleteanda heads up...vet visit number sum thin sum thin... wont bee a peace oh pie...yur gonna go in weighin 7.9 N come out weighin 7.7... we will just leeve it at that for a minit....
hay, enjoy de week oh end !
Wow, you have a note on your chart, Katie? Well done! Our angel cat Maggie, who was very sweet at home, used to have a RED sticker on hers. MOL. Sammy and Moosey are nevr happy about being at the vet, but they just submit (to get it over as quickly as possible, I think). As for Waffles Too purring when that thermometer ... never mind!
ReplyDeleteYou do look concerned about him, though.
ReplyDeleteDave's a lot like Waffles Too at the vet - they can do ANYTHING to him and he doesn't care. Me? Needles aren't a problem -- but that whole "holding still" thing is a real challenge. I can't help it. I'm a Siberian Husky and it's in our rule book. (The one Dave apparently forgot to read.)
Play bows,
Zim
Poor baby. Hope that kid got extra distemper shots
ReplyDeleteSnorts,
Benny & Lily
I was going to feel sorry for Waffles but it appears he takes those vet visits in stride and even -- gasp!! -- likes some of the indignities heaped upon him there.
ReplyDeleteMy Vet loves it when I come to visit and she says I am a model patient...go figure!
ReplyDeleteI, Ducky, am like Waffles. I do just fine at the VET. Derby is like you, needs to be medicated before he goes.
ReplyDeletehey Katie! you know, you should really get to know my sister (not my real one, the one that came with the house), Suzy. You two have so much in common! She has a giant red flag on her Vet file. Also, she is black and white, nervous, and irrationally irritated by youngsters. but I was able conquer that (W2- I'll explain how later).
ReplyDeleteTonight is my little girl Blanca's vet visit # 2...2nd set of shots. If last time is any indication, she'll be too busy investigating the vet's office to be concerned about anything else :) Ahh kittens...
ReplyDeleteOur vet comes to the house...and we all team up on her and steal things from her bag. And then we stare at the cat who's...well...you know.
ReplyDeleteWaffles! Hey dude, those kitten shots aren't too bed when given in the presence of an adoring audience are they? You sure are growing quickly, little one!
ReplyDeletePee Ess... mom is smiling at the thoughts of the jello shots memories in her past! Sheesh.
Good on ya, Waffles Too! That is awesome that you like the vet...I, on the other paw, am very, very afraid...PS: We think your PetMeds entry is fab and will tweet, we hopes you win!
ReplyDeleteOh Katie
ReplyDeleteit looks like Waffle is going to be a big boy when he is all grown up. But a sweet big boy!
Maxwell: Dood. You're already bigger'n Faraday! You gonna be one righteously GINORMOUS kitteh!
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: Yeah, and THEN we'll see who's Boss.
Uh huh.
OMG! What an ordeal, you poor little one!! Maybe next time you should take the human shot (tequila) instead!
ReplyDeleteWaffles liking the vet sure will make life easier on him!! He sounds like a mellow boy :)
ReplyDeleteWaffles Too those paws are so delicious! You are going to be a monster! Katie, you and my Coco should write a column on how to keep your "danger" status on your vet files...
ReplyDeleteKatie I think you better watch out for Waffles BIG paw´s one day :)
ReplyDeleteMe too are a good boy at the vet´s , no flag´s on me :)
He is such a good boy. I love seeing photos of him (and you too Katie)!
