Singing in the Rain – Bohemian Rhapsody at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, what's with all this rain gear and stuff?

KATIE:  It's what Glogirly wore to the movie the other night.

WAFFLES:  Since when does it rain at the movies?

KATIE:  Since the movie was outside. Glogirly went to see Bohemian Rhapsody at Red Rocks. Remember? The Red Rocks Amphitheatre is outside and it was raining. She had to bundle up with all her waterproof clothes and long underwear. She even wore her winter mittens.

WAFFLES:  So she watched a movie in the rain?

KATIE:  Yes.

WAFFLES:  With mittens.

KATIE:  Yes.

WAFFLES:  Like on purpose?

Glogirly's First Red Rocks Event Experience
If you've read our blog or followed us on Facebook for the past few months or longer, you probably know that Glogirly LOVES Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic that made a splash in theaters last December. She's seen it a number of times already and even has the Bluray disc to watch whenever she wants at home. She's not the only one who loves it. Would you believe one of her cat lady friends has seen the movie over 15 times??? (you know who are! LOL!)

Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado Before the Show

So when Film On The Rocks announced they'd be having a screening of Bohemian Rhapsody at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, (one of if not THE most spectacular outdoor venues anywhere) it was a race to the computer to reserve tickets.

Glogirly, Jodie, and Bob...READY!!!
Glogirly went with our super fun neighbors, Bob & Jodie. (Bob was one of our cat sitters during Glogirly's recent trip.) They arrived at Red Rocks early to get a nice parking spot and enjoy some pre-show snacks and beverages from the back of the Jeep. Tailgating is a big deal for Red Rocks concerts and events.

Planning for Weather
Rain or shine, the show goes on at Red Rocks. Everyone had been watching the forecast, so they knew that things were likely to get a little cold and wet. The best course of action though, is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. And that's just what they did.

Pre-Movie Entertainment with the Clouds Rolling In
Glogirly confessed to wearing more layers that she EVER has before.

On the bottom, she had long underwear, hiking pants, Bob's Goretex bib-overalls for sailing, wool socks, and rain boots. On top, she had a long-sleeved thermal tee, another long sleeve cotton tee, an insulated quilted jacket, a waterproof shell with a hood, AND a gigantic rain poncho with another hood. Her elbow-length winter mittens were a godsend, as was her wool ear warmers she wore under her hood.

Add in the water-resistant blanket she brought, and the total number of clothing pieces she was wearing topped out at 15!

Singing in the Rain
Once it got dark and the movie started, it did rain pretty consistently. Fortunately, it never downpoured. Their preparedness paid off. They were soaked on the outside, but nice and dry on the inside.

The Sound of Freddie and the Crowd Echoed Through the Canyon
They weren't the only ones donning rain gear. It was a soldout show with a capacity of 9,500. There were a few scared-of-the-weather-no-shows and a few didn't last through the whole show, but Glogirly, Bob, and Jodie, as well as the vast majority of the other fans, were storm troopers.

There's something very special about Red Rocks. Part of it is the beautiful and incredibly unique landscape. Part of it is the intimacy of a smaller concert venue. And part of it is a sense of community–sharing such a special show with so many other fans.

Bohemian Rhapsody at Red Rocks, The Final Scene at Live Aid
If you've seen the movie, you know that it ends with a reenactment of Queen's performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert. Glogirly said experiencing that concert scene at Red Rocks, with the city lights sparkling in the distance behind the screen, the amazing concert-quality sound of Freddie Mercury and Queen filling the atmosphere, and the thousands of fellow fans all there for a common purpose, to celebrate their love for this one-of-a-kind frontman and band, was something bigger and more meaningful than she ever expected.

And if that wasn't enough to love...CATS.

We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Program

Glogirly was at a special screening of her FAVORITE movie at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado earlier tonight. We'll tell you ALL about it... and the rain, and the snow, on Friday!

Can you guess which movie she saw???!  (We bet you can!)

A Day to Remember

WAFFLES:  What are you doing up there, Boss? Did Glogirly forget to put away our food?

KATIE:  No, Waffles. I'm just thinking about what today means.

WAFFLES:  It's Monday, Boss. That means....well, it's Monday. And tomorrow is Tuesday–

KATIE:  It's Memorial Day, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  So it's not Monday?

KATIE:  Well, technically it is Monday. But it's also Memorial Day.

WAFFLES:  Oh, you mean like parties and barbecues and FRIED CHICKEN Memorial Day!

KATIE:  It's much more than that, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  More than fried chicken? Are you sure???

KATIE:  It's a day of remembrance, Waffles. To honor and thank those we've loved and those we've lost.

WAFFLES:  Don't worry, Boss. I'm not lost. I'm right here.

Memorial Day Gratitude
We're pausing this Memorial Day to remember the people we love and say thank you. Friends, family, teachers, soldiers...some we've known our whole lives. They've touched our hearts and helped shape who we are. Some remain anonymous, having given so much, so selflessly, for this beautiful country we call home.

For us, Memorial Day serves as a reminder to honor those who we miss as well as those who continue to inspire us and love us unconditionally.

Here Comes the Sun, Do-Do-Do-Do! (finally!)

*Beatles Earworm Alert!*
WAFFLES:  Here comes the sun. ♩♫

WAFFLES:  Do-do-do-do. ♩♫

WAFFLES:  I forget the words.♩♫

WAFFLES:  Do-do-do-do. ♩♫

WAFFLES:  Something about me being a little darling though.  Do-do-do-do. ♩♫

KATIE:  Little darling is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

Sun, Finally!
After a late May surprise snowstorm and being fogged in for DAYS, Mr. Sun finally made a brief appearance! He's reassured us that the sky actually IS blue. In fact, he's in our forecast for the whole weekend.

Mr. Snow AND Mr. Rain think they're going to visit next week, but we've got our paws crossed they stay away.

Glogirly's got some big gardening and landscaping stuff to catch up on. AND she's going to a screening of Bohemian Rhapsody at the outdoor Red Rocks Amphitheatre. To be safe though, she's got her rain boots and poncho ready. "Nothing's gonna stop her meow!" ♩♫

May Snow Cats & Scenes From Our Spring Snow

WAFFLES:  What's with all this white stuff, Boss? Did someone spray Glogirly's whipped cream all over everything?

KATIE:  That's not Reddi Wip, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  It smells like Reddi Wip.

KATIE:  No it doesn't, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  It feels like Reddi Wip.

KATIE:  No it doesn't, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  It's REDDI WIP, Boss!

KATIE:  Fine. It's Reddi Wip.

WAFFLES:  So where's my cherry on top?

Mother Nature Loves A Rollercoaster
We're continuing to ride the weather rollercoaster here in Colorado. Just a few days ago, Glogirly was wearing her sandals but Tuesday morning she had to trade them in for her snow boots.

From the Rocky Mountains down into Denver, just about everyone woke up to at least a little of the white stuff Tuesday morning.  We had about 5" and are expecting a little more throughout the day.

No one is complaining though! Even in the spring, when the snow falls in the mountains it's like the beautiful landscape has been tucked into a blanket of sparkly, white magic. All this moisture is a wonderful thing when it comes to summer and fall wildfire risk too.

Waffles, who has a reputation for being scared of snow on his paws, even ventured far enough out our deck door to get both of his front paws covered before Glogirly pulled him back inside.

Snow Hummers
Our hummingbirds have been here for over a month already and have proven to be very resilient troopers.

Just after Glogirly took these photos, they were back at the feeder sipping their favorite sugar cocktail.

No Driveway Drama Today!
Despite the heavy, wet snow, our road is nice and clear, thanks to our neighbor. So bring it on down, FedEx!

Where's Waffles?

WAFFLES:  Bet you can't find me, Boss!

KATIE:  Bet I don't want to, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Ok! What do you wanna bet? Like money or treats or Glogirly's pillow? And how many? Like a lot or–

KATIE:  Waffles, I don't want to bet. I'm busy.

WAFFLES:  But you said bet.

KATIE:  That's not what I meant.

WAFFLES:  But you said bet.

KATIE:  You already said that.

WAFFLES:  But–

KATIE:  Really, Waffles???

WAFFLES:  BET - BET - BET - BET - BET - BET...

WAFFLES:  BET - BET - BET!

Four Seasons in One Day
Spring in Colorado is like an amusement park ride. One minute you're riding through blue skies, sunshine, and puffy clouds. The next minute it's raining, no wait, hailing, no wait, thunder-snowing!

Sunday afternoon was so foggy we couldn't even see our driveway. Mother Nature isn't quite sure what she wants yet. But that's ok. Every day is a pretty day in the mountains. Even when our eyes are closed and we're deep into our catnaps.

What Happens In Vegas - Suitcase Inspection

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, this suitcase smells really, uh... really strange.

KATIE:  That's because it came all the way from Las Vegas.

WAFFLES:  But I thought they say what smells in Vegas stays in Vegas.

KATIE:  No, it's what happens in Vegas.

WAFFLES:  Well whatever happened in Vegas really smells. You don't think there's some Vegas inside here, do you Boss?

KATIE:  I sure hope not.

WAFFLES:  I better check it out.

KATIE:  Well, suitcase inspection is your area of expertise.

WAFFLES:  I'm goin' IN!

KATIE:  Perhaps what goes in that suitcase stays in that suitcase. At least one can hope.

Leaving the Cats for Las Vegas
Glogirly left Katie & Waffles for the first time since we moved to Colorado! She went to a family wedding in Las Vegas last weekend. Our neighbors tag-teamed cat-sitting duties. David took care of all the breakfasts and Over-the-Hill Bob served dinner and provided daily updates and photos.

Katie and Waffles did great and made quick work of cleaning their plates each and every day.

Meanwhile, Gloman served as the official wedding photographer and Glogirly, the official wedding photographer's assistant, was by his side the whole weekend. The photos are going to be part of an elaborate film and light show the groom's parents are holding back in their home state of Saskatchewan, (Canada), later this month.

There were photo ops all weekend and on the big day, Glogirly and Gloman rode around with the wedding party in a stretch Hummer while they stopped at landmark locations in and around Las Vegas for photos. From the desert salt flats to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts to the Graceland Wedding Chapel to Lake Las Vegas where the ceremony took place, to the late night Bellagio fountain show on the strip...they were everywhere. 16+ hours and 2,650 photos, most in 95 degree Las Vegas heat. Phew!

The day after, they celebrated by turning the a/c down in their room to 60 degrees, taking 6-hour naps, and ordering room service for dinner.

WAFFLES:  Did someone say room service???
