Katie & Waffles on National Feral Cat Day® Fundraiser & Giveaway

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss? How come there are cats that live outside? Don't they have families and homes and toys and stuff?

KATIE:  Waffles, not all cats are as lucky as we are. There are millions of cats without homes and families to love them.

WAFFLES: So where do they live? Where to they eat? And play?

KATIE:  Some live in shelters. Those are the lucky ones. But many live on the streets. Many have never seen a wand toy or played with a crinkle ball.

WAFFLES:  How is that fair? How can we have so much and they have so little?

KATIE:  That's why we need to help them, Waffles. Our feral cat friends need us. And so do the kind and generous people that care for them. Did you know that many of our friends that visit our blog care for feral cats in their neighborhoods and communities?

Many of them practice TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) in an effort to end the tragic cycle of overpopulation. They feed them every single day, make sure they receive veterinary care when they're sick, they talk to them, they even give them names.

WAFFLES:  It sounds like they really love them.

KATIE:  They do. Very, very much.

Today is National Feral Cat Day®
Alley Cat Allies launched National Feral Cat Day® in 2001 to raise awareness about feral cats, promote Trap-Neuter-Return, and recognize the millions of compassionate Americans who care for them. With each year, more and more people celebrating and supporting.

Our Friends at Riverfront Cats
We're proud to be supporting a dear friend and feral cat caregiver and advocate, Christine Micheals, from Riverfront Cats of Miami. Christine has a heart of gold. She exudes a joy and optimism in everything she does. That includes caring for a group of beautiful feral cats. Twice a day she feeds them, talks to them and offers welcoming neck scritches. She's a passionate supporter of Trap-Neuter-Return and makes sure each and every one of those cats has the care it needs. She's helped countless cats find their forever homes.

  7. What a touching post Katie and Waffles. We feel the same way you do - we are so blessed to live in a home with food, treats, toys, love, and all the toys, scratching posts, and pet beds any kitty could dream of. Any cat could become an outdoor cat, and just because they don't have what we have, doesn't mean they don't deserve love, respect, food, veterinary care and more. Thank you for sharing this fundraiser. Christine is one of our favorite humans and we love her so very much for all she does to take care of the precious Riverfront Cats. Purrs from the Zee/Zoey kitties!

  8. Paws up to Miss Christine for all she does for the feral kitties. We usually donate today to Alley Cat Allies to help the ferals, but we're gonna ask the mom if we can donate to both great causes.

  10. What a marvelous article to spread the word about ferals. Gemini could have been a feral--she was moving in that direction but she found us.

  12. Great post! TW has been feeding homeless cats since she was a teenager. Before it was even called TNR she teamed with a neighborhood boy and they got every stray on the block fixed. Today she still carries cat food in her bag at all times in case she runs across a hungry cat. Everyone doesn’t feel this way. Some nasty woman screamed at her and called the po po a few weeks ago. She won’t go back there but just donated a case of food to help feed them.

  13. Such a great and important cause. Without TNR we wouldn't have Mickey Mouser or Rufus the Red - both were rescued by trappers - and so many cats and kittens would be facing another terrible winter here.
