Catlady Fun At The CWA

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Glogirly finally found her way home from the Cat Writers' Association conference. She was quick to unpack the Muse Medallion awards she received for best color photography series and best black & white series. I question the sense of awarding HER the medallions for photos that clearly featured ME. ...and a couple of Waffles.

Those medallions are awfully big and heavy too. Not exactly cat-friendly. I can barely bat them around the townhouse.

And considering she STOLE my mouse for her so-called Halloween costume, I have nothing to bat around here except a certain orange ...ok, not such a bad idea after all.

Glogirly had a great time hanging with all the cat ladies. There were lots of laughs, lots of cat ears and even MORE awards. Big congratulations to our friends Angie Bailey of Catladyland, JaneA Kelley from Paws & Effect and Cat Wisdom 101's Layla Morgan Wilde for their Muse Medallion wins. And a special congratulations to Deb Barnes of Zee & Zoey for winning Friskies' Writer of the Year Award!

Glogirly's favorite part was rooming with Maxwell, FaRADay & Allie's mother from A Tonk's Tail. They stayed up late, painting their nails, talking about boyz and comparing wand toy stories.

Another exciting part of the conference was the unveiling of the new CWA logo that Glogirly had a hand in designing. She did the t-shirts and conference program covers too.

So Glogirly claims to have some special kitty swag for us in a bag that has yet to be unpacked.  Waffles and I are hopeful that she'll crack it open later sometime today. If not, we may have to resort to a joint covert operation.

Whiskerslist The Kitty Classifieds: Book Review & Create-Your-Own Hilarious Listings

WAFFLES:  Um, hi everybuddy. The Boss just got this really cool book. She says I'm not allowed to read it yet. But I think she's pulling my paw.

KATIE: Leg, Waffles. Pulling your LEG. And you're right. I don't want you reading that book.

WAFFLES:  Why not, Boss? Does it have secrets and stuff?

KATIE:  As a matter of fact, yes. Now get your nose out of there. That book is MINE and I don't want you stealing any ideas from it.

Our funnygirl-friend, Angie Bailey, of Catladyland fame just released her newest book, Whiskerslist The Kitty Classifieds. She sent ME (not Waffles) an advance copy so I could purrsonally tell her what I thought of it. But first, let me tell you a little about it.

Whiskerslist is a compilation of over 160 craigslist-style classifieds written by cats for cats. Cats seeking cats, lost toy postings, classes, for sale/trade, list goes on.


Some of my Favorite Whiskerslist Headlines:

• On-site paper shredders needed.
• I chew cords for you.
• Participants needed for timed, "flash mob-style" leg climbing
• !!CHAT WITH LIVE CATS NOW!!
• Lot of toy mice for sale. Varying conditions. Must take all.

• If you like tuña coladas.

Glogirly says it's one of the most hilarious parodies she's ever seen or read. But *I* say it's much, much more.  In fact I've been studying it, using it as a research tool, as I plan my OWN kitty classified ad.

Now THIS is really cool. You can go to Whiskerslist.com and create your very OWN kitty classified listing. Just enter your headline, a brief description of what/who you are trying to sell/trade, etc... upload a picture and congratulations...you've got a kitty classified.

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! What kind of ad are you going to write? Are you gonna sell some of your old toys?

KATIE:  Yeah, that's it, Waffles. I'm going to sell some old toys. You know, nothing I'd actually miss or anything.

Glogirly Visits The Kitties Of Feline Rescue, Inc

We want to introduce you to some VERY special kitties today.

Glogirly and her friend Angie Bailey (of the hilarious blog, Catladyland) recently visited the kitties of Feline Rescue Inc. in Saint Paul, Minnesota to share some exciting news. When we both were presented with BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards in May, we received something MUCH better than trophies or treats. We each received 400 pounds of Petcurean cat food to donate to the rescue shelter of our choice.

Angie's hoping to be invited inside orange boy Black Foot's hidey hole. Since we visited he's been adopted!

Angie and Glogirly wanted to do something EXTRA special for one of their favorite hometown shelters. So they decided to combine their donations and give Feline Rescue 800 pounds of food. I did the math and that's about as much food as both Waffles and I would eat in TEN years! ...and we all know what a food hog Waffles is. 

Feline Rescue is one of the little guys making a BIG difference in the lives of homeless cats. They're an ALL-volunteer, NO-kill cat rescue organization with shelter, foster and outreach programs.

Their shelter facility can house up to 70 cats. They have special rooms for FEL+ and FIV+ cats, quiet spots, even dedicated areas that provide privacy for cats that are very scared and are in need of socialization rehabilitation. Glogirly saw first hand how much time and care they take to help these cats feel comfortable and safe. They work one-on-one with them until they are ready for adoption.

All of the cats in the shelter facility are adults. A network of foster homes provide care for the kittens until they are adopted into forever homes.

In addition to safe shelter, Feline Rescue also provides rescue and relief to the homeless and endangered cats in our community through programs that offer foster care, social and medical rehabilitation, feral and stray management, spay/neuter subsidy and community education.

BlogPaws Day 1: Some Furry Attendees

Hi everyone, Katie On-A-Stick here.

Today was the first official day of BlogPaws! Flat Waffles and I were making the rounds with Glogirly and you'll never BELIEVE who we caught her chumming around with.

I sure hope there's no more room left in her suitcase, or the REAL Katie and Waffles are in for a BIG surprise.
