WAFFLES: Helloooo? Is anybody in there? Hmmm. I don't think anybody's home, Boss.
KATIE: Waffles, no one's living inside there. That's our Feliway® MultiCat Diffuser.
WAFFLES: I don't know, Boss. Sounds like a bunch of cats feeling their way around our house.
KATIE: Seriously, Waffles? We've been using Feliway® for years now. It's one of Glogirly's secret weapons to creating peace and harmony around here. It's what helps keep you from completely annoying me day after day.
WAFFLES: You mean so I can just annoy you every other day?
We're Feliway's #1 Fans
We were so excited when our friends at Feliway® contacted us about sharing our experience with their products. We've been fans of their entire line for many years now and first discovered them way back when Waffles joined the family. Along with his irresistible charm and dashing good looks, he also brought with him an extrovert personality that from the very start, created conflict between him and Katie.
What Is It?
You know how cats love to rub up against anything and everything with their heads and the sides of their mouths? They're actually depositing kitty pheromones. It's something only cats can sense and smell and helps them to feel secure and comfortable in their environment. It's not just about marking stuff as mine, it's about creating safe and familiar spaces.
Feliway® mimics these natural feline facial pheromones.
Why Can't We All Just Get Along?
Feliway® was first recommended to us by our vet as a way to help with the introduction of a new cat into our home as well as an effective way to help with the everyday stress levels so many multicat families experience.
What we didn't realize was just how many uses we'd find for it.
How It Works For Us
If you've been tuning in over the past couple of months, you know that we recently made a big move from Minnesota to Colorado. Feliway® was with us every step of the way. It comes in three forms - Feliway® MultiCat Diffuser, Wipes and Spray. And we used them ALL.
In The Car
For the long drive, we sprayed the inside of the car lightly with the Feliway® Spray. We also used the Feliway® wipes on the inside of our carriers. We did this about 15 minutes before we departed and before everyone, and every cat, loaded into the car.
Hotel Rooms
Since it was a two-day road trip, we spent one night in a pet-friendly hotel. We love how many hotel chains now accommodate our furry family members, but that also means there are a LOT of unfamiliar and unsettling smells. As soon we checked in, we sprayed the room, making sure to focus on areas that were carpeted, as well as upholstered furniture and the bed. In addition, we plugged in a Feliway® MultiCat Diffuser.
New House
When we arrived at our new home, we had nothing but the few bags we'd packed in the car. Our furniture, with all it's familiar smells, didn't arrive for another two weeks. That made it even more important to make what was a new and very unfamiliar space feel safe and comfortable for Katie & Waffles. Right away we plugged in three of the diffusers - one in the main living area, one in the master bedroom and one in the office. When we lived in our three level townhome, we had one plugged in on each floor.
The spray came in very handy as well, especially in the rooms that had carpeting. We used the wipes on our the blankets, bedding and even Glogirly's sleeping bag.
New People
One of the biggest sources of stress for many cats is unfamiliar visitors. When you move into a new house, the unfamiliar visitors just keep coming, and coming. Movers, electricians, painters, repairmen, delivery people...you name it. We made sure to have one of our diffusers placed near the front entrance to the house. Some of the tradesmen left their tools and supplies overnight for larger projects. We used the spray on the painter's drop cloths and the electrician's tool bag. It wasn't long before both Katie and Waffles were warming up to all of them.
Everyday Life
We've talked a lot about our move, but Feliway® is something we continue to use everyday. Katie and Waffles' complicated relationship has come a long way over the years, but it's not always sunshine and rainbows. We keep our diffusers going in areas of the house they spend most of their time in. The spray and wipes must-haves for rides in the car to the vet, and road trips back to Minneapolis for visits.

Also from the Makers of Feliway® - Catego™ For Cats
In addition to all the great Feliway® products, we also received a sample of Catego™, their monthly preventative flea and tick control treatment.
Topical flea and tick treatments are something of a controversial topic. Some pet parents use them regularly with great success and some prefer non-chemical, natural preventative measures. It's a very personal choice and one that we recommend discussing with your veterinarian.
It's extremely important to never use a flea and tick treatment meant for dogs on your cats. Catego™ is designed specifically for cats and only cats.
- Designed specifically for cats
- Kills fleas within 6 hours
- Kills all life stages of ticks
- One box contains three monthly applications
- Easy to apply applicator
- Available through veterinarians and Amazon
- Will be available at PetSmart soon
My senior girl, Moko, has been having medical issues (including an allergic reaction to one of her medications). After that, the vet suggested we keep her isolated - more to keep her from feeling stressed than because being around the other furbabies or humans in the house was an issue. I used the upstairs bathroom, which isn't used much. I could have used one of these for that. I have a heated scented oil dispenser for the bathroom, so I picked up a lavender/chamomile scent and set it to the lowest setting, since the door was closed. I think it really helped. Of course, a product like you reviewed her would likely have been even better. Moko's doing better, although she's still scratching herself and has caused some sores. Her appetite is back and she's gained some weight. Since I have to pick up more of her meds from the vet, I'll be taking her in for a weight check.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear Moko is doing better. Our vet recommended Feliway when Katie was over grooming a number of years ago and we believe it helped. Good luck at the vet!
DeleteThanks Glogirly fur the info. Let us know how you like Catego.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kitties! It's still winter here in the mountains, so we're not quite ready!
DeleteFeliway is a great tool for lots of cat families!
ReplyDeleteSummer, we know SO many cat families that use it regularly with great success too!
Deleteour vet uses Feliway and mom keeps thinking we need to try it around the house....
ReplyDeleteWe first discovered it at our vet clinic. They use the diffusers in all of their exam rooms. And when Katie visits, they use the spray in advance of her arriving also.
DeleteWe have been using Feliway and now Feliway multi-cat for years. The vet behaviorist that we consulted with helped formulate the mult-cat. :)
ReplyDeleteWe know you guys have been using it for years! : )
DeleteHow cool that the behaviorist you saw helped with the multi cat formulation! Wow!
We used feliway wipes and the spray on our trip. The woman was afraid she would forget the diffuser in the hotel so she didn't use that.
ReplyDeleteFunny... we came SO close to forgetting ours in the hotel!
DeleteI wonder if it would help with Sherpa and Fernando - they have some issues. Although the whole Snowy and Harry thing has calmed down so that is good.
ReplyDeleteMight be worth a try! Katie & Waffles will never have a perfect relationship, but it's one of the things that does seem to help.
DeleteWhy do you need to diffuse cats?
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
haha!! You two always crack us up.
DeleteAhh! this is good information. I could use it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping by, Goldie!
DeleteI use the Feliway spray quite often around here.
ReplyDeleteWe use the spray often too...especially when visitors come over.
DeleteEveryone in their happy place.
ReplyDelete(((purr)))
DeleteI call the Feliway spray, "Calm-a-cat"! It's used liberally on the towels placed in the carrier when a trip to the v-e-t is necessary.
ReplyDeleteLove that! I like the idea of putting it on the towels under the carrier.
DeleteWe've used Feliway off and on for years, and have had one plugged in continually since we adopted Lucy.
ReplyDeleteWe've been regular uses since Waffles came on board too.
DeleteI use the wipes and spray all the time with my feral and traumatized kitties during socialization, and strongly recommend it to others for behavior as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bernadette! It's so great to hear about others' successes with it.
