Waffles' Powder Room Obsession - One Year Later

WAFFLES:  Do-do-do. No one in here but us chickens. Wait. Chickens?

WAFFLES:  *inaudible chortling*

WAFFLES:  I'm still looking for the chickens.

About Today's Photos
Almost one year ago, we shared Waffles fascination with the powder room. How he'll often shut himself inside the tiny 6'x6' room as many as a dozen times in just one evening.

The orange mischief maker is still going strong. So strong in fact, he's branched out to the guest bath and master bath.

We're pretty sure it's not only a bathroom attraction but a fascination with doors. His modus operandi is to play in the tiny space between the back of the open door and the wall, twirling, chortling and flipping like a fish. Then he'll stand up on his back legs with his front paws reaching up as high as they can go on the door, pushing until... click. He's locked himself in.

Now whenever Glogirly and Gloman leave the townhouse, they go through an open door protocol. Every door is checked and blocked open with a doorstop, laundry basket, stool or whatever piece of furniture is handy.

Katie: "Get me out of here!"
Katie doesn't share Waffles' powder room obsession. Though she has, on occasion, found herself on the wrong side of the door during these shenanigans.

KATIE:  That's an understatement.

  4. It's part of his ... er ... um ... charm? Yeah, charm. That's the ticket. His charm.

Oh Waffles. What an adorable doofus. <3

  5. Poor Katie! I thought only Bear did that behind the door thing! Bear will just sit back there behind the open door. He usually doesn't try to close it though. Even odder? Bear hates enclosed spaces ... like boxes ... hell breaks loose when he's closed into or out of a room. But he'll sit in the 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft pantry for hours without a peep. I accidentally closed him in there once and NOTHING. I wasn't until I came home from class a couple hours later that I was alarmed he didn't meet me at the door. I called his name and heard a faint meow. The kicker is that if he's interrupted in the pantry or behind the door, you get a very dirty look ... like you're imposing. Okay then!

  9. We need that doorstop! Ernie has been known to lock himself into bathrooms, etc. around here. The mom now puts a "bumper" (one of our kickeroo type toys) in the way to help as a doorstop...but this one is way cooler!

  10. Waffles, Z-girl is so entertained by your obsession with the bathroom. None of us like to be locked in our bathroom, although we have been known to play peek a boo when one of us is sitting behind the open door and the other is standing in the hallway. You are just full of surprises though! Katie--we bet you like it when he's in there for a little while!

  11. Daiquiri likes to occasionally shut the bedroom door in the middle of the night. Not sure if she is shutting the rest of us out or what her plan is all about though....

  12. Maybe we can put Ichiro and Waffles in a bathroom and let them lock themselves in? Cause that would work for both of them... what is it with some cats?

  13. They are in there keep looking

  15. Older house, the doors don't swing shut that easily. That keeps me from closing myself in any room. I do like to get into mum's clothes closet, but she is used to that, so leaves a sliding door open for me to get out.

  20. Well gee-wiz Glogirly..maybe he wouldn't lock himself in if you would stop keeping chickens in there...

  21. Maxwell: I fail to see the problem. At least you know your doors are functional.
Allie: That's because you have to be rescued from similar situations ALL THE TIME.
Maxwell: Clearly it's all in the name of science.
