About Today's Photos
Waffles and Katie were busy power-lounging over the weekend. Ok, truth be told, that's pretty much what they're busy doing EVERY day. So Waffles' song photos are actually yawn photos.But when he's not lounging, he's often talking and singing. Maybe it's something about orange kitties, we're not sure. Waffles is a super vocal kitty. Much more-so than Katie. Whether he's waking everyone up for breakfast, singing to the ceilings, or trilling for Glogirly at bedtime, he's got a huge vocabulary of special vocalizations he uses to draw attention to what he wants.
We've read that cats have evolved their vocalizations over time as a way of communicating with humans. And that they don't often use these vocalizations as a way of communicating with other cats.
Not Waffles. He's also very chatty with Katie. Katie has no time for Waffles' antics though, so these are usually one-way conversations.

Anyone care to guess the names of the original artists that performed Waffles' songs?
A few weeks ago, Parker showed as a household pet in a cat show. On Sunday, she sang all the way up to the show hall. There was a blue Bombay who sang while he was in the ring.

I'm pretty quiet too. Binga's the talkative one around here. The Monday song my human knows best is "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats... it's probably just as well that Waffles doesn't know that one.

ReplyDeleteI don't talk much unless mum has foods for me. Plus mum know the songs without looking them up, she is that old. Remembers them when they were first popular. Now she is singing, or at least trying to! MOL!

Our orange cat, Rufus the Red, makes a mmrrbbb sound in greeting, and I do hear him talk to Mickey Mouser - usually a prelude to a rumble. It's always interesting to consider the coat color/ behavioral connections. I wish someone would make a survey. But just when I meet my zillionth tortie cat with an attitude at PAWS, there will be an absolute sweetheart to throw doubt on my conclusions. I guess there's really no predicting when it comes to cats.

ReplyDeleteMonday Monday - the Mamas and the Papas. When the album came out the girl across the hall (in my dorm) played it non-stop.
ReplyDeleteAngel sings out early every morning, but that's usually bc someone has gotten up to use the bathroom! CB likes to trill as us, and he'll purr when we pet his tummy while napping, but Manny is silent.
ReplyDeleteMy orange guy Tiger talks but only to me...my three best talkers are Mr Chang a tuxedo and his mom Pudgy a tabby...the youngest Karma...I'm not sure whether to call her a calico or a tortie but she has a large amount of cattitude!....the others will talk but usually only when they want something...Of course I know who sang those songs..I'm an old lady!..lol...
