Feeling Super Smart with SmartCat Litter - and a GIVEAWAY for YOU!

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss!  What's this stuff in our litter box?

KATIE:  Uh... litter?  Clean litter?

WAFFLES:  But where's the dust storm? Isn't there supposed to be a dust storm? Glogirly just poured it in a minute ago. Where's the dust storm?

KATIE:  I'm as surprised as you, Waffles–

WAFFLES:  And it doesn't smell funny either. It doesn't smell like flowers. It doesn't even smell like YOU!

KATIE:  Watch it, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  BOSS!!! Did you know this new litter can make you SMART???  With a much as I use the litter box, I'm going to be a genie!!!

KATIE:  You mean, genius

WAFFLES:  That's what I said! Genies!

KATIE:  Waffles, this is a blog post, not Harvard. Better manage your expectations on the whole genius thing.

SmartCat Litter Really IS Smart!
SmartCat is one of the newest biodegradable litters on the market from Pioneer Pet. It just recently made it's debut at the 2014 Global Pet Expo, where the who's who of the pet brands show off their latest and greatest products to the who's who of pet retailers and influencers.

Probably the most unique characteristic of SmartCat is that it's made from ...GRASS??? Yes, it's made from 100% USA farmed grass with no added chemicals or fragrances.  But that's not all.

1. NO dust. Not one bit. REALLY.
We're not kidding.

2. NO smell. Not at all. REALLY.
Ok, you probably think we're pulling your paw. But seriously, just the sweet smell of nothing. Even AFTER it's been used.

3. Clumping Power
Out clumps clay and WAY out clumps many other biodegradable and natural litters. It's super easy to scoop and clean. None of that gunk stuck to the sides of the litter box. (yay!!!)

4.  Lightweight
Though SmartCat doesn't really market their litter as being lightweight, we think they should! We had two bags of litter, side by side. The bags looked to be about the same size. The clay bag was a whopping 40 pounds. SmartCat weighed in at a mere 20#.

5. Eco-Friendly
100% grass, fragrance & chemical free, biodegradable and renewable.

6. Paw-Friendly
The soft, fine texture is definitely easy on the paws. We thing cats who struggle with the texture of other *chunkier* litters will really appreciate this.

WELL? Katie & Waffles Tested AND Approved!
We've tried a lot of litters. And we've written about a lot too. We have three litter boxes and will often use a different kind of litter in each box. When SmartCat made it's debut in our litter room (yes we have our own litter room with curtains and everything) ... Both Waffles and I took to it right away. We still use the other litters too, but this is the first biodegradable litter we've pawed into right off the bat.

Glogirly is thrilled, because she's loving the no smell, no dust and lightweight factor. There's a little bit of litter tracking, probably due to the fine, light texture. But nothing a small litter mat or throw rug can't catch. SmartCat is going to be a regular feature in our litter room.  .... and now, here's a chance for YOU to try it too!

It's a GIVEAWAY!
One lucky GLOGIRLY reader will win a gigantic 20 pound bag of SmartCat Litter for themselves AND another 20 pound bag for their favorite shelter! Though the prize is only eligible for US shipping, we're opening up the giveaway worldwide so that our Canadian and overseas readers and friends may gift their prize to a US friend or shelter should they win. Good luck everyone! We really think you'll love this litter.

A Company with Rich History & Admirable Mission
It all began when Betsy Lipscomb, founder and president of Cats International, gathers some old wooden fence posts from her farm in Wisconsin and gave them to cat owners to use for scratching posts. The posts became pretty popular, and over the years were improved with the addition of sisal rope and a sturdy base.

Providing products specifically designed to enhance the quality of life for animals by providing for their behavioral needs is what Pioneer Pet and SmartCat are all about.

Pioneer Pet is proud to be associated with Cats International. Knowing that behavioral problems are the number one killer of pets in this country, Betsy started a free behavior counseling service that is known as Cats International. The site is a reliable resource for intelligent and practical solutions in solving and preventing difficult behavior and training problems.

We received our SmartCat Litter at no charge from Pioneer Pet. We also received a small fee to cover the time it takes to photograph the product, write the review and administer the giveaway.  Receiving the litter and fee did not influence our article or anything we say.  We only feature products and services on GLOGIRLY that we love and use. All sponsored posts on GLOGIRLY reflect our honest and unbiased opinions.

  3. the one we use now is great except it tracks bad and it's dark brown so some tracking that's light colored would be nice

  4. This sounds great! My human is a stickler about NOT using clay litter, so she is always on the lookout for eco-friendly litter to try!

  8. We know we cant get it sent to us if we were to win but still wanted to comment.

This stuff sounds fabulous but I really wouldn't give up on the all-in-one catsan smart cat stuff I use which comes with an absorbant liner. I definitely couldn't go back to doing the whole liner and box washing again as I can bag, bin and replace the litter in 15secs which is such a blessing. Life is too short to spend it close to used cat litter!

I do love the idea of this product as it seems very refined with lots of plus points going for it. Now, if they were to bring an all-in-one liner complete version to the UK this would be utterly perfect.

  9. No dust would be a fantastic thing! I haven't found any litter that I can use with the babies that isn't dusty yet.

  10. We would love to sink our paws into this litter. We love the idea of it being dust free.

  11. Scoopability is most important to me when choosing kitty litter.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Unscented and extra-clumping sound like winners to me! Brash (or is that Brat) Furrgus added a whole new dimension to litter usage in the house, after years of the ladylike Miss TabbyKatt. So sounds like it is definitely worth trying!

  13. The most important feature about litter is that it needs to be dust-free as possible. We're very interested in this litter. Did Katie and Waffles like it better than Dr. Elsey?

    ReplyDelete
  14. If it was real smart litter, we could get Dumb Dog to use it!

  15. @Island Cats
We've got three different litters in play right now. Both Katie & Waffles are going back and forth between Dr. Elsey's and the new SmartCat Litter. The third box, which has another biodegradable brand, is untouched.

It's hard to know who is using which more....but it looks like it's about 50-50 between SmartCat and Dr. Elsey.

    Both are virtually dust free.
    Both are fragrance free.
    Both have a fine texture.
    Both are great at clumping.

    SmartCat is biodegradable.
Dr. Elsey is clay and therefore not biodegradable.

SmartCat is about half the weight of Dr. Elsey's.

SmartCat has a little bit of tracking.
Dr. Elsey has a little less tracking.

Neither Katie or Waffles has ever had any trouble with appropriate litter box use. Dr. Elsey's has herbal attractants in one of their formulas that may help with cats who might be going outside the box.

As Sparkle mentioned, biodegradable is huge. This is paws down the best biodegradable litter we've used.

  17. This sounds like a good product. I wish a company would design something for kidney challenged cats - nothing really clumps anymore and the pee sticks to the box like plaster. Any suggestions?

  21. Love to try it. Currently love our CatAttract, but this is worth trying.
And you know we would want a bag of this (at least) sent to Feline Rescue!

  22. Thanks for the heads-up on this litter! We rely on reviews from our furriends to find products we would like.

  24. I still haven't found the best kitty litter but I'm still trying...thankfully my purries are not as particular as I am - if it's in their litter box, they use it!

I likes it not to stick to my paws. ~Socks

    No dust. ~ Mom Alasandra

  26. Smart Litter for your iPot sounds cool!

    ReplyDelete
  27. That sounds pawsome especially since it's so lightweight...oh we want to see your litterbox room with the curtains!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The MOST important thing about cat litter is that the cats will use it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. We have been using corn litter for years, but this sounds like a really good alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This looks like something our household would really love. No dust and No odor And to boot light weight. Where can I get this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  31. interesting, mum would like the dust free stuff. Also the lighter weight.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That litter does sure look better for cats. I hope it sells in Canada!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dust free is the most important in our household, two of my boys have very sensitive respiratory systems and I am prone to the occasional asthma attack. Even with air purifiers it's still a problem when they kick it all up. Raine on RC buzzyngabe(at) yahoo.com

  34. Wow, would like to try this. We changed to tidy cat light weight but Mom hates the perfume. Definitely interested in this!

    ReplyDelete
  35. oh, wait, what? sorry I was just day dreaming that it would be nice if Pioneer would give me a year's worth of litter for the foster kittens :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. WOW that seems like an awesome brand of litter!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, if both Waffles and Katie recommend this litter, we're willing to give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  38. First and foremost, I won't use anything for my cats that isn't safe. I'm also concerned about the environment, so this product sounds great.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The most important things are covering up smell s and being non toxic

    ReplyDelete
  40. Right now the clumping is. TW stupidly spent $$ on Swheat Scoop, which doesn’t have an odor but it doesn’t clump since you’re supposed to flush it. It breaks into tiny little pieces. It may be the first litter that’s so bad we throw it out.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This sounds like a dream come true! My Sophie would love it since she likes softer litters. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

    ReplyDelete
  42. BIODEGRADABLE! (And no smelly addons like perfumes or dyes)
Is it flushable like the other one we use?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Safety would be the most important thing...

    ReplyDelete
  44. @ Tonk's Tail
Here's Pioneer Pet's response to the flushing question (from their FB page)

While the product is biodegradable we have not registered it in each municipality for flush ability and tested to each municipality standards. Thus no claim yet of flushability.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am always looking for a better litter with my own cats and fosters in the house (and a lot of used litter in the trash barrel!) Would love to try this one!

    ReplyDelete
  46. The litter we are currently using tends to stick to the side of the box and Mom Paula hates it. We'd love to try out this litter.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mom L is going to buy some and give it a try. Dad P will have a hissy fit because he hates to change our litter on us girls...but Mom L will persuade him as usual...she will just go buy it! heh...heh

    ReplyDelete
  48. Most important is that the cat wants to use it. Then low tracking and eco-friendly.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The Kool~Kittie~Krew would love to try this and give the other bag to the Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale, PA

    ReplyDelete
  50. This sounds like great stuff! Kirby, Jelly Bean, Pwincess and Punkin love their current wheat litter, but less dust is always a great thing! I know it's biodegradable, but is it also flushable? With four cats in a small apartment, it's absolutely necessary that we be able to flush it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yo! Katie, if you have an “In” with SmartCat, tell ‘em I need a new Ultimate Scratching Post. MOL!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Always on the lookout for better kitty litter!

    ReplyDelete
  53. What I believe are the most important aspects for cat litter and my cats would probably agree with me is little to no dust, and great clumping power!

    ReplyDelete
  54. What's most impawtant to me? It controls odor. We kitties have sensitive noses you know.

    ReplyDelete
  55. We look for the dust free stuff!

  57. We are def giving this one a try. We didnt like the pink stuff.

  58. The most important factor when it comes to litter is that it's made from ingredients that are not harmful to my cat. I buy litter made from sustainable plant-based ingredients - anything but clay.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I find the idea of dust-free litter VERY exciting!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I look for litter that's healthy for my cats to use--and they'll use it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Definitely would like to have some dust free litter. I have asthma and pouring litter always makes me have an asthma attack...it sucks!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's important that the dust doesn't fly around the room, it really can get into everything
