#BarkWorld Day 2: Live Cat Sighting

FLAT WAFFLES:  Hey, Flat Boss?

FLAT KATIE:  Waffles, enough with the Flat Boss already. Just call me Boss.

FLAT WAFFLES:  Ok, so Fla.. I mean Boss?  Did you see the real-live cat at BarkWorld today???

FLAT KATIE:  You mean this cat? The one just to our right?

FLAT WAFFLES:  What's that lady DOING? Is she playing wheelbarrow?

FLAT KATIE:  No Waffles, it's not a game. It's a cat grooming demonstration.

FLAT WAFFLES:  Cat grooming? So why's the cat not grooming herself? Is her tongue tired?

FLAT KATIE:  No, Waffles. This is Petunia the cat and she's getting a day at the spa. Danelle German is the president of the National Cat Groomers Association and she's giving a hands-on demonstration showing some of the techniques they teach at their institute and she uses in her cat grooming business.

FLAT WAFFLES:  Wow, they go to school to learn how to groom?

FLAT KATIE:  It's the world's first and only feline-exclusive grooming school.  Glogirly sat next to her at the Meow Breakfast today and was fascinated to hear all about it. Everything from a shampoo and blow dry to a comb out and mani-pedi. ...they can even do a "sani-trim" to keep things clean and tidy in those nether regions.

FLAT WAFFLES:  Do I have nether regions???

FLAT KATIE:  Glogirly was very interested to hear about the care and patience that goes into handling the cats and gaining their trust as well as some of the benefits a day at the spa can bring – no hairballs, luxurious and fluffy coats and just plain feeling-good.

During the demo she also trimmed the long hairs around Petunia's eyes and nose so she could see much better. With her breed the hair grows long and can cover part of their eyes.

FLAT WAFFLES:  Is Glogirly going to give US a day at the spa?

FLAT KATIE:  Well I think she's probably going to start combing us more. And we all know YOU could use a nail trim. For now though, I'd think twice about playing with your toys in the bathtub.

Special thanks to BarkWorld and our generous sponsor, Petco!  Be sure to come back tomorrow for more fun -  LIVE from BarkWorld.

  1. That just looks flat uncomfortable, and flat-out dangerous with BratCat! But I bet most kitties would enjoy it.

  3. Petunia is very lovely and a great model, but we shudder to think about going to a spa. ::shuddering::

  4. That doesn't look like fun to us even if it gets rid of hairballs! Happy Caturday!

  5. Hey, my Dad said that girl cat was super soft but I think I will do my own baths thank you!

  6. I double cat dare you to get anywhere near my nether regions with any kind of apparatus whatsoever.

However, the Feliway Mom just reviewed actually made her able to trim ALL my claws at once WHILE I was eating - and no one got hurt.

I've got a Feliway giveaway going on my blog if you guys want to try it!

  7. It sounds like your mom is meeting some really interesting people!

  8. We're so glad to hear that there are interesting cat demonstrations at BarkWorld. We don't want our nether regions trimmed either. Newton won't even let let the peeps groom his armpits and has to get manscaped instead!

  9. We don't think we would put up with all the primping and preening. Though we don't mind getting brushed occasionally. But stay away from our nether regions!

  10. Petunia is a lovely girl cat! We bet Glogirly is having a great time at BarkWorld.

You two better watch your paws as Glogirly could start on them right after the brushies :(

  11. Seeing the death grip that groomer has on Petunia, I now understand better how groomers get cats to "cooperate".

  12. Thank you for sharing about your BarkWorld experiences, Flat Katie and Flat Waffles. Wish we could be there too! Purrs from the Zee/Zoey gang

  14. Those are lovely photos of Petunia! My human just used her iPhone so hers aren't anywhere near as awesome. I'd fire her, except she takes decent photos of me (with the REAL camera).

  15. WE want to know if Waffles has nether regions...

  16. W2 do you have a nether?
    Petunia is one gorgeous cat!

  17. Our mom sometimes thinks she needs to go to grooming school just so she can learn how to groom us appropriately. She says Sweet Praline was easy to groom, but we're a little harder to handle.

  18. LOL, cute dialogue, you two. A professional cat groomer sounds very interesting. I can see how it might be needed for a Persian cat. Or even a Maine Coon or other long-haired cats. Nether cleaning? I can see how that might be needed too, but it doesn't sound like any fun for either party.

  19. Has Waffles had his nether regions removed?

  20. That cat there looks like a balloon. Instead of grooming, I'd suggest a diet. MOL! Have fun.

  21. Our Mom and Dad could use some lessons in cat grooming. We can't say they know what they are doing or exude much confidence, which worries the heck out of us. We are concerned we might be missing some essential part when they're finished. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty may, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

  22. Petunia is beautiful! It's so great that cat grooming is a hot topic...we give a lot of spa days to the cats at the shelter where I volunteer.

  23. Petunia looks beautiful! But Moosey says he will take care of his own baths, thank you very much. :)
