Makeover In A Box

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Glogirly and I have been hard at work making the blogosphere a more stylish place for the winners of the GLOGIRLY DESIGN Big Blog Makeover. We promised to share our progress and we're super excited to show off our first before and after with you today.

It's not clear whether or not Benny & Lily of Two French Bulldogs knew what they were getting themselves into when they entered the Blog Makeover Drawing. After all, a couple of dogs in a clearly cat-dominated contest didn't stand much of a chance. But the two frenchies lead a charmed life. Lucky dog, lucky dog.

B&L's New Profile Avatar

During our initial consultation with the two doggy bloggers, we talked about their vision for the blog. When they finally stopped with all the sniffing and playing around with each other's tails, they asked me to stick them in a cardboard box. Seriously? Since when do DOGS get all lathered up over a box? Everyone knows that boxes are a cat thing. But who am I to argue with a couple of DOGS. Glogirly says the client is always right. Yeah, except when they're wrong. Or when they're DOGS.

But I'm a pleaser. A giver. A lover of all animals. (Ok I really only tolerate dogs...but I that counts, right?)  So I was only following instruction when I created their new look.

Benny & Lily's New Blog Header & Logo

Here's what we gave them:

• Custom header and logo
• Profile avatar for their sidebar
• Custom blog background
• The full-service magic wand switcharoo. (That's code for: We went into their template for them, loaded up all the files, switched out fonts and colors and tweaked the layout.)  

The Big Ta-Da

We're already thinking about some fun ideas to update their designs for Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day, Cat Appreciation Day...

Please swing by Two French Bulldogs and take a look around and leave them some kitty love. Truth be told, B&L have been our friends for a couple years now.  Don't tell...but we actually LOVE their blog. They're always cracking us up with their antics and silly remarks. Let's just hope they find their way out of this box so they can start blogging again.

The Gift Of Salmon

The UPS man has been coming around a lot lately.  And for once, the big brown truck is a welcome sight. Just the other day a special box came for ME all the way from Housecat Confidential!  I'm not sure where the town of Housecat Confidential is...but who cares! It's a box. With a gift. Addressed to ME!

My friend Quill, the new kitten-in-charge over at Housecat Confidential sent me a GIFT! Not just any gift...Quill sent me SALMON. Do you know how much I LOVE SALMON? I know I hardly ever mention it here...but trust me, I LOVE salmon.  Love, Love, Love it. And look! It even comes in a pink package. You KNOW that means it's good.

The salmon is a thank-you gift from Quill for helping him out with his Blog design. The kitten needed a paw hand and flashed me the cute look. What was I supposed to do?

...hey, wait a minute!  Does that package say *dog treats*?   Seriously, DOG TREATS??? Well, Quill IS just a kitten. Still inexperienced in the world of feline culinary delights. I'm gonna cut him some slack though. Truth be told, there's no difference at all between salmon treats for dogs and salmon treats for cats. Except of course that dogs don't deserve salmon treats.

Sunday Surprise Squeee

I know... I don't usually post on Sundays. But Glogirly was going through some old (HEY WAIT A MINUTE! I'm not THAT old!!) photos of me and just couldn't resist sharing my heart-melting kitten cuteness.

Gloman was photographing me today for some upcoming blog posts and I was giving him the ears. Apparently Glogirly had to remind herself of how cute and innocent I once was. (WAS???  ONCE???)

I'LL show her cute. I must go sharpen my claws.

Saturday PhotoHunt Interruption

Hi everyone, Katie here.

We've been playing Saturday PhotoHunt for awhile now... ever since the Katnip Lounge kitties explained what it was all about. We were sure we had a super-cool image planned for today. Glogirly made it a couple of weeks ago when she had a sudden burst of creativity, but we couldn't remember what it was.

So we went to the folder containing the PhotoHunt image for today. Just seeing the name sent chills. Glogirly opened a photo she had titled 'Katie Joker' and closed it right away.  Maybe there will be another time to share this photo. But not now.

Our hearts ache for the victims of the Colorado theatre shooting and their families. We pray they feel the world's arms wrap around them and comfort them. We pray for their healing and their courage to face the challenges and pain most of us could never imagine. We pray for peace and for hope.  And for remembrance.

Working Cat Week - Day 5

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Welcome back! It's the final day of Working Cat Week. In honor of Glogirly actually *working* this week, I've been exploring my OWN career opportunities. A kitty's gotta keep herself stocked with salmon...and if the girl doesn't come through, I'm left to my own devices.

So far there hasn't been a whole lot of love for my career choices.
A Baker?  Early mornings plagued with flour dust.
A Nurse? Rubber gloves and smelly people. ...oh but there was the allure of thermometer retribution.
A Sculptor? Clay spatter doesn't play nice with my furs.
An Elevator Operator? I smell entrapment.

But today I think I've got it. Thanks to Speedy the Cheeky House Bunny's brilliant suggestion, I've struck gold. Hollywood gold.

Look out ellen, I'm moving in. 

The celebrity guests will be flocking to the set once they hear about my new talk show.  Glogirly seems to think Johnny Depp and Adam Levine should be my first guests. I was thinking more on the line of Puss In Boots.

Working Cat Week - Day 4

Welcome back to Working Cat Week.  In honor of Glogirly actually *working* this week, I'm taking time out to explore some new career opportunities for myself.

So far nothing is sticking....except all that pottery clay from YESTERDAY.  Tuesday's look into the NURSING profession provided only one real perk - thermometer retribution. Monday's BAKING fiasco showed me that mornings are meant for sleeping. But today I just might be onto something.

Going up. First floor, ladies apparel.

Working Cat Week - Day 2

Welcome back to Working Cat Week. In honor of Glogirly actually *working* this week, I'm exploring my OWN career opportunities.

Yesterday we reviewed the pros and cons of becoming a professional BAKER.  Most of you thought I was crazy to even consider getting up that early in the morning. You reminded me that baking is much more than cute logos of cat cupcakes.  I'm pretty sure Glogirly was pressuring me while still under the influence of birthday cake buttercream.

Today's Career Spotlight: A Nurse

Working Cat Week - Day 1

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Well my girl is actually WORKING this week. Seems she's not been satisfied with the salary and benefit package I've been providing for her blog services as of late. Whatever. Seems she's got some whackadoo excuse about needing to keep me in fresh salmon and her in fresh haircolor and fancy shampoo. Again, whatever.

Since I'm being left to my own devices this week, I've decided to explore a few career opportunities of my own. Self-sufficiency just might keep the salmon swimming up MY river.

Today's Career Spotlight - A Baker
So what do you think?  Is this the job for me?

1. Cupcake wrappers make great cat toys.
2. The humans will never suspect the buttercream is actually salmon flavored.
3. Ovens give off a lot of heat.
4. Playing with my apron strings.
5. My new Cupcake Katie logo is uber-hip and cool.

1. The hat is ridiculous.
2. The apron is a bit constricting.
3. I'm scared of the Kitchenaid mixer.
4. I prefer my salmon whole, not pureed.
5. Gotta get up too early.

The Day After

Hi everyone, Katie here.

What's wrong with this picture?  I'll tell you what's wrong with this picture. What's wrong is that empty plate sitting in front of me. What's wrong is I've been left out of yet ANOTHER so-called birthday celebration.

As you know, yesterday was Glogirly's birthday. And I KNOW you know because everyone and their DOG left a comment wishing her a happy day. So, what am I? Chopped liver?  Glogirly's birthday yesterday gleaned more comments in a single day than any other day in the whole history of my blog! And what about me?

An empty plate.

Gloman took Glogirly out to their favorite restaurant last night to celebrate getting older. Ok wait a minute. What's wrong with THAT picture?  You mean to tell me you humans actually CELEBRATE getting older? All the while COMPLAINING about getting older? There are some things I will never understand.

So back to the restaurant. I know for a fact they dined lavishly on beef tenderloin and salmon. I hear chocolate cake was involved as well, but let's get back to that salmon. No doggy bag. No kitty bag. No foil swans. Nothing.

I'm sitting vigil, glaring at watching my empty plate. The guilt should set in sometime soon.

Despite my still empty plate, I'm sharing what appears to be an overly sappy note that Glogirly begged me to post. But I'm a giver. So here you go:

Birthday Turns Up Heat On Global Warming

This just in - GLOGIRLY is to blame for Global Warming.

That's right. Today the world burns a little brighter, a little hotter, thanks to the 58,982,342,093 candles on Glogirly's birthday cake.  Feeling a bit overheated?  A little scorched?  Go ahead, blame Glogirly.

Oh my Cod...HOW MANY???

Since I'm SUCH a giver, I've prepared a very special video birthday greeting for my girl. I'd be remiss if I didn't give a big shout-out to my fellow Real Housecats.  You kitties sure do know how to rock the birthday song. I love you big time.

Ok Glogirly, I hope you have a happy day. FYI...you're chances at a happy day are much better if *I* celebrate with a little salmon. Just sayin'.

International Cat Video Film Festival At Walker Art Center

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Ok, this is BIG. Have you heard??? A first-of-its-kind event is coming right here to Minneapolis!  I'm talking about the International Cat Video Film Festival!!!  The Walker Art Center is inviting people (and cats) to participate in an experiment that tests the social boundaries of the online community with a live, off-line event celebrating one of the internet's most popular phenomena. CAT VIDEOS!!!

The event is receiving WORLDWIDE attention in the media.  FINALLY, the recognition us cats deserve!

This is amazing on SO many levels:  

1. It's an International CAT Video Film Festival = I'M A CAT!!!
2. It's an International CAT VIDEO Film Festival = I MAKE CAT VIDEOS!!!
3. They are looking for submissions = I HAVE CAT VIDEOS!!!
4. They are looking for submissions with a local connection = I'M A LOCAL CONNECTION!!!!!

So Glogirly and I have already submitted a few of our videos.  But we thought YOU might like to submit some too!!!  It's super easy.  Just go to the International Cat Video Film Festival Nomination Form and submit the URL's to your favorite cat videos.  You can select up to three on one form and you can submit as many forms as you want.
