Basket Of Goodies

Hi everyone, Nurse Katie here.
It's Gloman Week at the townhouse. He's a little under the weather so I'm devoting my blog to him this whole week.
Today it's all about goodies and gifts. What do treats have to do with treatment? Well besides everyone being nice to you when you don't feel good, you often get TREATS. A ginormous gift basket arrived for Gloman at the townhouse. It's bigger than ME. In fact, it's scale required me to physically circle the basket in order to inspect the contents.

Do my eyes deceive me?
What's THAT between the beef jerky (too salty for my taste)
and the bananas (I don't do fruit)?
See that little purple lid?

These babies are mine.
All mine.

Nurse Katie

Hi everyone, Nurse Katie here.

Gloman is a little under the weather so I'm devoting my whole blog this week to him. Since he doesn't much feel like playing with me and my toy, I'm going to have to make my own fun. Today it's all about nurses.

Nurse Jackie is one of my personal faves.

Although my friends across the pond might not know her, it's a known fact that here that we have a lot in common. No, I'm not an addict. Well ok...I DO have a drinking from the toilet problem. But let's not go THERE again.

Nurse Jackie doesn't play by the rules,
but deep down she has a good heart.
That's how I roll too.

After exhaustive research and numerous interviews, I have uncovered the top 5 most commonly used nursing phrases.
  1. You won't feel a thing.
  2. Because your doctor said so.
  3. Don't worry. I've done this a thousand times before.
  4. You may feel a slight burning sensation.
  5. I'm sorry. It's not THAT kind of Tylenol.

THIS is how I roll.

Thought For The Week

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Today's thought for the week is devoted to words. It's more of a trivia sort of thing, but it makes you go hmmmmmm. Therefore it qualifies as my latest Thought For The Week.

What do:

Stewardesses

Reverberrated

& Lollipop

have in common?

They are the longest three words that can be typed using only one hand (I mean paw) on the keyboard.

Glogirly Greatest Hits - VOL. 4

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Very busy today. Deep in thought. Here's just the right nugget from the archives -

DEEP THOUGHTS

Hi everyone, Katie here.

I've been extremely busy today. Thinking. There's just so much to ponder each and every day. I frankly don't know how I find the time.

Do I have my gingivitis food for breakfast? Or perhaps for lunch?
Shall I save some for a midnight snack? Midnight is an awfully long time to wait.

Which window should I stand guard at so the birds, squirrels and rabbits stay at bay. The front deck window? The back deck window? Or perhaps the downstairs door? What should I do if the rabbit, for example, attempts a forcible entry? The townhouse windows are so clean, the birds have made that mistake more than once.

On which soft bed should I take my daily nap? And how long should I nap for? Do I need an alarm? What kind of alarm? How will I know how to set the alarm? What if it doesn't go off? Can I ever nap not knowing if I know how to correctly set the alarm? Should I do a test and set it for two minutes from now just to make sure it works?
Wait, I'm a cat and I don't know how to tell time.

I am so screwed.

Introducing Caption Caper

Hi everyone, Katie here.

It's Wednesday. We are kissing the tired, old What's The Word Wednesday gig goodbye and saying hello to Caption Caper. It's way more fun. More cool. And you get to see me in my Stealth Kitty cape EVERY Wednesday!

It's easy to play. Just write a caption for this week's photo pick. You can leave it in the comment section or on my Facebook page. Whatever turns you on. What does the best caption earn you? Well nothing really...no treats, no nip...just the satisfaction of being incredibly clever and smart. That alone gets me through most days.
; )

Let's play!

30 Year Reunion

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Glogirly is going to her 30 year high school reunion this weekend. OMC, that's 210 cat years! I didn't think anybody could be that old.

Glogirly, 30 years ago.

I'm anticipating a last minute wardrobe crisis. Last minute grey hair crisis. Certainly there will be some stress over shoes. Maybe I should just go in her place. I'm a classic beauty. I wear black and white as gracefully as Coco Chanel herself. They might be serving salmon for dinner.

But then there's the whole I-Hate-People thing. I'm not much for parties. And given my propensity for hissing...well...

Glogirly, you are on your own.

Upstairs Cat Downstairs Cat

Hi everyone, Katie here.

I have Glogirly and Gloman right where I want them. On separate floors that is. I am Upstairs Cat. I am Downstairs Cat. I am Katie, master of my townhouse.

Downstairs, I am Gloman's cat.

I will come when he calls. Answer when he asks. As much as it pains me, I will allow him to pet me and even, dare I say, hold me.

There is but one thing I am NOT when I'm downstairs. I am not Glogirly's cat. I will run when she calls. Give her the ears when she talks. I will not allow her to pet me, and certainly not EVER hold me. Oh but she tries...and I do love it when she tries.

Upstairs, I am Glogirly's cat.

When she heads up the stairs, I know there is a 98% chance she's going to bed and a 2% chance she's going to make the bed. Either way I'm a winner. When she's in bed, I'm in bed. Sometimes we even share a pillow. Sure, Gloman is often there, but I just ignore him.

I'm very strategic in my approach to human relationships. The whole Downstairs-Cat-Upstairs-Cat thing keeps me right where I want to be. And it keeps Glogirly and Gloman right where I want them.

Thought For The Week

Hi everyone, Katie here.

The only thing better than Friday is a beautiful pair of shoes. ...and, of course, the fact that it's time for my Thought For The Week.

Glogirly Greatest Hits - VOL. 3

Hi everyone, Katie here.

I had a bad feeling when she left this morning. I even ran down two flights of steps to watch her drive away. Truth is, I just wanted her to see ME. Just a little abandonment guilt to throw her way. You see, Glogirly spent the afternoon with one of her dog friends. I can smell these things before they even happen.

This time when she came home though, I didn't smell anything suspicious at all. No dog. No cat. Nothing. Glogirly's friend, we call her hoffy, just lost her little Corgi Girl. Her name was Miss T. Miss T and hoffy were best of friends. In fact they were a threesome just a few years ago before Tex passed away. Miss T and Tex did everything together. They loved each other very much. Too bad they were dogs, but not everyone can be perfect.

Glogirly and I poke fun at each other and aren't afraid to show our sardonic wit. But I'd really miss her if she went to human heaven and I KNOW she'd miss me if I went to cat heaven. (I can't say as much for Gloman.) Once when she was in Maine hiking up to a lighthouse, she tripped over a rock. Just before she shouted something not suitable for a family blog, she realized what it was. A small heart-shaped remembrance of someone's companion and friend. I hope she'll remember me someday as a Darn Good Cat. I also hope she can find a bigger and more impressive rock.

What's The Word Wednesday

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Many of you know all about my caped-crusader-alter-ego, "Stealth Kitty." But do you have the super powers to read my thoughts?

What AM I thinking?

Brow Beating

Hi everyone, Katie here.

So what's the big whoop with brows? Glogirly had her brows "done." Had them tinted. Then had them WAXED. I don't like the sound of that.

These poor, pathetic humans...always trying to make themselves better looking by doing crazy things with hot wax, tweezers...ouch! They should just accept the fact that they will never be as good looking as CATS and move on.

Somehow Glogirly thinks that all that bare skin (ick)
around a perfectly shaped arch (seriously?)
is the cat's meow (whatever.)

Glogirly, I've got five words for you.

STAY AWAY FROM MY BROWS.
I don't need no stinkin' wax.

Ok, that was actually eleven words.
Whatever.
Twelve.

Townhouse Re-Do

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Lots of changes here at the townhouse this weekend. I hear rumors of a re-do project. After the UPS man came and went and came and went and came and went, I knew it had officially begun.

I guess I can kiss my red chair and rich color pallete goodbye. Glogirly says we've been looking at the same colors for nine years now and it's time for a fresh change. NINE years? I haven't even been ALIVE nine years.

Here's her story board.
She was inspired by the rugs.

Which I must say are fabulously cushy.

They arrived on Friday and I've already been twirling around on them in an effort to fur them up and assist in placement. So based on the rug factor, I'm going to remain open and optimistic.

Maybe that nasty red dog will go away too.
Much more to come...

Spotlight on Glogirly

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Today I'm finishing up my introductions with Meet Glogirly. Our relationship, like mine and Gloman's, is a strange and special one. I pretend to prefer Gloman. When he calls me I come running. When Glogirly wants to pick me up I run the other way. When Gloman talks to me I mew and chatter back. When Glogirly talks to me, I often give her the ears.

But it's all a game. I really do love her. Just don't tell...I've got a reputation to maintain.

MEET GLOGIRLY, a.k.a Debbie. Enjoy these 10 interesting factoids about my girl that you may not know.

#1 Shy

She's extremely shy but tries very hard to act like she's not.

#2 Favorite Color

Glogirly doesn't have a favorite color. There are so many beautiful colors, how could she ever choose?

#3 Family

Although she's an only child, Glogirly has LOTS of family. She was adopted (like me) as a baby by the most wonderful parents. Sadly they are no longer with her, but she very recently found her birth family and has been welcomed with open arms. That's her mom and dad on the left. They are the ones that adopted her. And that's her birth mom on the right.

#4 Cupcakes & Cookies

Her mom was an amazing baker and Glogirly followed her footsteps into the kitchen. She's famous among friends and family for her over-the-top cupcakes and paper thin sugar cookies.

#5 Apollo 11

Glogirly's dad was an incredibly humble and gentle man. Most people had no idea how many amazing places his career took him. He worked inside Mission Control at Nasa in Houston during the Apollo missions. He oversaw the super-computers that maintained communication contact with the astronauts. He was right there watching the big screen as Neil Armstrong took that first step. Glogirly's birthday is July 19. In 1969 she asked her dad if the astronauts could walk on the moon a day early, on her sixth birthday. Well, they still walked on the moon on July 20, but that didn't stop her dad from making her feel special every single day.

#6 Diabetes

Glogirly was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last New Years Eve. Since then she has lost over 80 pounds by changing the way she eats and exercises. Ok, so the major change in exercise was to go from NOT exercising TO exercising. Sadly, this all has affected #2 on the list. But she still loves baking for others. Rest assured, the Christmas sugar cookies are not in jeopardy.

#7 College Job

Glogirly worked her way through college as a model and modeling instructor. She went to the University of Minnesota and has a B.S. in Design. And we all know what B.S. stands for.

#8 Party Girl

She LOVES planning and throwing parties. It's required that all of her parties have a theme and marketing campaign. Her favorite part is designing a clever and unexpected invitation.

#9 Piano

Glogirly took piano lessons as a child for six years. When she became a teenager she quit because it wasn't cool. In 2000, on a whim she went to a psychic. He told Glogirly that her mom always loved it when she played and that she should play again. On another whim, she bought a piano and started taking lessons again. She's been studying piano at the MacPhail Center for Music in downtown Minneapolis for ten years now. She's no concert pianist, but her teacher and friends say that she has a very intimate and emotional connection to the music she plays. It moves them. She likes to think that's because of her mom. Don't worry though, she's not some wackadoodle psychic network fan.

#10 Gloman

Glogirly has the most wonderful best-friend-partner-husband she could ever imagine. They met by chance 14 years ago and that day changed her life forever. She still pauses and whispers to herself, "WOW...I'm the luckiest girl on earth."
