A Foxy Lunch Invitation

WAFFLES:  Boss? Have you seen the new neighbor? He looks kind of funny, for a cat.

KATIE:  He's no cat, Waffles. He's a FOX.  He'd have you for lunch.

WAFFLES:  Wow, you think so? If I'm lucky, maybe he'd serve me chicken!

Mr. Fox in the Morning
We've seen our neighborhood fox a few times now, though this is the first time Glogirly has been able to get a photo of him. There are quite a few fox in our canyon, but they're very shy and usually steer clear of humans.

The only time we ever seem to see this cute little guy is in the morning. He'll come trotting down the middle of our dirt road and find a boulder to sun himself on. Glogirly took this photo through our kitchen window with the longest lens she could grab. Once she had a nice shot, she snuck out the door to try and get just a few feet closer.

Not sure if fox can see colors, but if they can, that might explain why he scampered away so quickly. She had her bright red robe and slippers on. Probably not a wise wardrobe choice!

Spring Snow Cats

WAFFLES:  My toes! My toes! It's COLD!

KATIE:  Then don't touch it, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  But it's so...COLD!

KATIE:  That's because it's snow.

WAFFLES:  I don't see any snow, Boss. The sun's shining, the birds are signing–

KATIE:  It snowed last night, Waffles. And not even two seconds ago you had your paw in it and were meowing about how cold it is.

WAFFLES:  Oh yeah, I forgot. There it is.

WAFFLES:  So this means we're Mountain SNOW Cats! Right, Boss?

KATIE:  Mountain Snow Cats from the comfort of our warm house.

Good Morning Snowshine!
When we went to sleep last night, the snowflakes were falling fast and furiously. The TV weather people were urging everyone to stay home. Major interstates and highways were even closing due to the extreme conditions.

Just after sunrise.

Morning Snow Scenes
When we woke up the next morning, the sun was kissing the snow. There's nothing quite like the clear, crisp air after a Colorado snowfall. It's like looking through high-def glasses. You can see forever.

We got about 8" of desperately needed snow. And by noon it was already half-way melted. Perhaps Glogirly should have waited until the snow melted before she shoveled!

Those pretty white peaks are some of the highest in Rocky Mountain National Park.
The tallest one is Long's Peak.

Glogirly took this one while she was shoveling.

Just before the melting.

Happy Cat Daddy Day!

KATIE:  Waffles! Wake up! It's here!

WAFFLES:  It's here, Boss! It's here!

KATIE:  That's what I said, Waffles. It's here!

WAFFLES:  Uh... what's here again?

KATIE:  I'll give you a hint.

WAFFLES:  OMG, it's my BIRTHDAY!!!  What'd you get me, Boss? A bucket of extra crispy? A giant side of gravy?

KATIE:  No, Waffles. Believe it or not, it's not always about you. It's Gloman's birthday!

WAFFLES:  We should get him a present! Do you think he'd like a wand toy?

KATIE:  Not unless Nikon makes wand toys.

WAFFLES:  He's always talking about some 400 millimeter Nikon thing. I bet that's a REALLY BIG wand toy!

KATIE:  I've got a better idea, Waffles.

Dear Gloman,

Happy Birthday from your FAVORITE cat. Thank you for adopting me and bringing me home to your girl. Thank you for our long conversations about life, love, and Waffles. Thank you for scratching my tummy and massaging my face whenever I tip over on the rug for you. Thank you for understanding me, watching out for me and for the extra treats when Waffles isn't looking.

Most of all, thank you for loving me.
xo, Katie

Deer Gloman,

Happy Birthday from your EXTRA FAVORITE cat. Thank you for always having room for me on your lap. Thank you for playing fetch with me, watching movies with me, and fixing my broken wand toys.  I'm sorry about all the singing...but if you tell me your favorite song, I'll try to learn it for you.

Thank you for calling me your little buddy.
xo, Waffles

Happy Birthday to the Best Cat Daddy EVER!
Today's photos are from a birthday vacation we took as a cat-family a few years ago. We rented a pet-friendly condo up on the north shore of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota.

Though we didn't get to spend Gloman's actual birthday with him this year, we celebrated getting to spend three whole weekends with him earlier this month. And so he'd still have some special treats to enjoy on his big day, we sent him a care package of his favorite cookies - oatmeal raisin and peanut butter.

Happy Birthday, Gloman! We love you BIG! ♥︎♥︎♥︎

Outtakes or Takeout?

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, we're having takeout today! What're you going to order? I'm getting General Tso's Chicken.

KATIE:  I hate to break it to you, Waffles. But today's blog is about outtakes. Not takeout.

WAFFLES:  Outtakes? But what about General Tso's chicken? And chopsticks. What about chopsticks?

KATIE:  There is no chicken, Waffles. No chopsticks. We're showing some of our behind the scenes outtakes from our Sheer Fun For Cats photoshoot.

WAFFLES:  You mean MY photoshoot. Hey,wait a minute. what's Glogirly's hand doing in my photoshoot?

WAFFLES:  And her feet!

KATIE:  Nevermind her feet, Waffles. That flash! It's REALLY lighting up your–

WAFFLES:  I know. The ladies love a mancat with a nice–

KATIE:  *sigh*

Sheer Fun For Cats
If you haven't heard about our friend Carolyn and the new cat toy she invented called Sheer Fun For Cats®, we hope you'll take a minute and check it out. Waffles and Katie were some of the very early toy testers and it was a huge hit here. So much so that Waffles is the official packaging model.

Carolyn is hoping to get Sheer Fun launched through Kickstarter and is over halfway to her goal. There's just a few days left of her campaign and we're crossing our all paws that she makes it to her funding goal so lots of kitties get to enjoy this great toy. Maybe even your cat!

In case you don't know how Kickstarter works–
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform that helps independent entrepreneurs and inventors bring their creative projects to life. Becoming a backer gives you an opportunity to be among the first to buy the product at an awesome discount. And by pledging as a backer, you help a small business get off the ground.

You can preorder a toy for your kitty for as little as $15.

Today's blog post is self-sponsored. We did not receive any compensation for creating and sharing today's blog content. We're just hoping to help our friend reach her goal.

Playing Cat Hooky

WAFFLES:  Glogirly says we're playing hooky today on account of she's got a bad cold.

WAFFLES:  So, Boss? What's a hooky? Do I need ice skates to play? And a hooky puck?

KATIE:  Please hurry up and feel better, Glogirly. I can't take much more of Waffles and his hooky.

Good Morning Showshine!
After our crazy thundersnow, we woke up to a beautiful snow and sun-kissed landscape. And Glogirly woke up to a nasty head cold. Not to worry though. Nurse Katie and her orderly, Waffles, are up to the task and taking turns keeping her company. (And reminding her when it's time for their lunch.)

We hope you enjoy our beautiful view as much as we do!

It's Thundersnowing!

WAFFLES:  Did you hear that, Boss?

KATIE:  Hear what?

KATIE:  That? That's just a little thundersnow.

WAFFLES:  But thunder doesn't snow.

WAFFLES:  And snow doesn't thunder.

Colorado Thunder Snow
It was an all-cats-in-their-sleepypods-NOW Sunday. One thing we've learned living in the mountains is that the weather is anything but predictable. One minute it's blue skies and sunshine and the next it's full on blizzard. Sunday surprised us even more.

Have you ever heard of Thunder Snow? At about 4:00 in the afternoon, the skies turned white, the thunder started booming, the lightening started crackling, and down came a crazy storm of tiny white pellets. Not hail, not really snowflakes either.

It didn't last long before it transitioned into a regular snowstorm. With Colorado's snowpack at a record low, we're doing our snowdance daily. Though we've been enjoying some springlike weather this winter, on the flipside that puts us at a much higher risk of wildfires.

But maybe hold on the thunder.

Waffles and the Great Leprechaun

WAFFLES:  Are you ready, Boss?

KATIE:  Ready for what, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  You know, the Great Leper Can! Tomorrow is his big day! I've been saving his hat for him.

KATIE:  Again with the Leper Can??? Waffles you've been Leper Canning us for five years. Don't you think it's about time you admit it's the great leprechaun, not leper can?

WAFFLES:  I KNEW it! So there IS a Great Leper Can– I mean Con. Last year you told me he wasn't real. That he was like the Easter Bunny and Santa, who EVERYONE knows are totally real.

KATIE:  If you say so.

WAFFLES:  And he's got a big pot of golden chicken under his rainbow. And he brings all the good cats their very own bucket. I've been super good so I should be getting at least an 18-piece meal.

KATIE:  I can't believe I'm going to ask this– original or extra crispy?

WAFFLES:  I don't know! It's so hard to decide. Original is so...original. And extra crispy is so...

KATIE:  Crispy?

KATIE:  Wake me up when it's over.

Happy St. Catrick's Day!
Thank you, friends, for always making our Irish eyes smile. Ok, so we're not quite sure if we're really Irish. But on St. Catrick's Day, we ALL are!

Waffles and His Upside Down World

WAFFLES:  Whoa, Boss! You look funny sideways. Crazy!

KATIE:  No, I think it's you that looks crazy.

WAFFLES:  OMG! The whole world is upside down!

KATIE:  Now you know how I felt the day you moved in.

Can You Believe It's Been Almost SIX Years?
Waffles joined our family in 2012 and life, as well as our blog, was never the same. Though Katie would never admit it, we're suspect she actually likes the spice that Waffles has sprinkled into her life.

We sure love all that the fun he's sprinkled into ours.
