I Love Lucy, I Love Chicken, I Love Waffles

WAFFLES:  Faster, Boss! Faster!

KATIE:  Waffles, you're supposed to wrap the drumsticks, not eat them.

WAFFLES: Wrap them? How am I supposed to wrap them? I'm busy.

KATIE:  Maybe if you stop eating and start wrapping???

WAFFLES:  But what about quality control and stuff?

Quality Control Team

MAXWELL:  So where'd all the drumsticks go?

FARADAY: Employee #709857 is clearly not working out.

ALLIE:  You mean that orange Waffles-whatever cat?

FARADAY:  Chicken and Waffles. A dangerous combo.

MAXWELL: Sounds like a happy meal to me.

WAFFLES:  Did someone say Happy Meal???

Special Thanks to our Guest Cats
Today's Quality Control Team are none other than the hilariously sophisticated kitties from the cat blog, A Tonk's Tail. They're always up for a little fun and games. Especially when it comes to food.

About Today's Post
Today's post is a nod back to 2014 - 2016 when we had a regular Saturday feature on our blog called #TVTripCaturday. It was a chance for Glogirly to play around with lots of Photoshop tricks as well as a way to help some adoptable kitties find forever homes.

If you feel like a few more giggles, here's a link to some of our past TV Trip posts: TV Trip Caturday

Who Yawned it Better?

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! Let's have a yawn-off!

KATIE:  A yawn-off??? What's a yawn-off?

WAFFLES:  You know, like a contest. Like, who can yawn the best.

KATIE:  I'd rather just skip to the nap-off.

WAFFLES:  Aww, c'mon Boss. It'll be fun.

KATIE:  Fine, Waffles. Show me what you've got.

WAFFLES:  YAWWWWN!

KATIE:  Is that really the best you can do?

KATIE:  YAAWWWWWNNN!

WAFFLES:  I need a do-over, Boss.

KATIE:  Seriously? This whole thing was your idea. I told you we should have just skipped to the nap part.

WAFFLES:  YAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNNNN!!!

KATIE:  Wow, Waffles. I don't think any of us needed to see that.

About Today's Photos
Glogirly has been busy working outside on our wildfire mitigation project. Trimming wild grass and trees, she's turning into a regular lumberjack. Or would that me lumberjane?

Meanwhile, Katie and Waffles are working hard at napping the day away. When Glogirly came inside for a break, she found them completely crashed in the bedroom. Waffles was snoozing on the chair and Katie was fast asleep in a blanket on the bed.

They each gave her a look like, "So? As a matter of fact, yes, we have been napping all day.

So, who do YOU think yawned it better?

4 Simple Ways to Make Vet Visits Less Stressful - plus a FELIWAY® Giveaway

This post is sponsored by FELIWAY®

WAFFLES:  Wow! Look how cute I was at the vet when I was a kitten. I'm pretty sure she had a big crush on me.

KATIE:  Yeah, that was before you figured out that it's not always a party at the vet.

WAFFLES:  Whaddya mean, Boss? They still tell me how handsome I am and what a good boy I am.

KATIE:  Uh huh. And that's right before they pull out a needle, or share the news that you need a "dental."

Take Your Cat to the Vet Month
Take Did you know that August is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Month? Though it's not something Katie or Waffles has high on their calendar radar, it IS a big deal to Glogirly. It's an important reminder to make sure everyone is current on their annual wellness visits. For six-year-old Waffles, that means a yearly date with our vet. At 13, Katie is considered a (shhhh!) senior cat, so she sees our vet two times a year.

But some cats don't see a vet at all. And given how masterfully they can disguise illness and pain, many cat parents may not realize something is wrong. That's just one of the reasons we're big proponents of regular wellness exams.

When Visiting the Vet Means Anxiety
We've all been there.

Act natural the morning of the vet visit while you calmly lure your cat into his or her carrier. A quiet and peaceful ride in the car, followed by a zen-like calm in the veterinary clinic waiting area. Yeah, right.

It doesn't matter how hard you try to hide the fact that you're going to the vet.

They know. They know. They know.

4 Easy Tips for Creating Calm
Even the most easygoing of cats can experience stress and anxiety. Waffles is a purr-fect example. Come over to our house and he'll be showering you with love and head butts in no time. Try and get him to the vet and his sweet and fun-loving demeanor goes out the window. We've got 4 easy tips that make a big difference for us in lowering the stress level on those vet visit days.

Half the battle of getting your kitty calmly to the vet is getting them comfortable with their carriers. We leave ours out and open in the house 24/7 and as shocking as this may sound, both Katie and Waffles have gotten so used to them now, they LOVE hanging out in them. They nap in them and sometimes will even sleep through the night in them.

How to create a friendly bond between your cat and his carrier:
  1. Leave the carrier out and open in a quiet room of your house. We keep ours in a large walk-in closet.
  2. Make the inside of carrier cozy with a comfy pad or blanket.
  3. Use FELIWAY® CLASSIC Spray in and around the carrier. The spray leaves an odorless message called a Feline Facial Pheromone. These happy messages provide comfort and security. Just what you want to help them feel comfortable and safe in their carriers. Be sure to let the spray dissipate for about 15 minutes before letting your cat in the area.

FELIWAY® CLASSIC Spray is also our secret weapon for car rides. About 15-20 minutes before we're leave the house, Glogirly will spray the inside of the car and then leave it with the doors open for the spray to dissipate.

We're not going to say our car rides are 100% peaceful, but it sure does help.

Another tip that has worked wonders for us is to take a few car rides here and there where we don't really go anywhere. Just a drive down the canyon road and back helps Katie and Waffles to realize that not ALL car rides end up at the vet.

Sometimes the anticipation is the worst part. Katie and Waffles are usually silent in the waiting area. But that doesn't mean they're not feeling anxiety. They're just quiet about it.

Here are a few tips to help with the wait:
  1. Keep your cats inside their carriers in the waiting area. It's where they will feel the safest, especially with other animals and people coming and going.
  2. If you have an option to visit a feline-only veterinary clinic, go for it! Our vet is feline-only and the difference in the overall energy and vibe in the clinic and waiting area is night and day compared to what we were used to. There actually is a zen-like calm. No hustle bustle of dogs on leashes, no barking. Cats are so much quieter and pretty much keep to themselves inside their carriers.
  3. If you don't have the option of visiting a feline-only practice, suggest to your vet that they create a cat-only portion of the waiting area, separate from where the dogs wait. Our previous vet had cat-only exam rooms and dog-only exam rooms. Though still not quite as good as a feline-only clinic, it made a big difference.

Ok, now that you're done ooohing and aaahing over our vet's gorgeous exam room, you can stop to take a peek at what's plugged into the outlet. LOL!

Every veterinary practice we've visited have all used FELIWAY® products to help create a safe and calm environment for their feline patients. In fact, that's where we first learned about them.

There are FELIWAY® CLASSIC Diffusers plugged in inside each exam room at our current clinic, as well as one in the waiting area. With so many foreign smells, unfamiliar people, and activity, it helps to provide a sense of comfort and security.

You've probably seen your cat rub their face against corners, furniture and even you. As they mark their territory, they leave an odorless message called a Feline Facial Pheromone. These happy messages provide comfort and security. The FELIWAY® CLASSIC Spray and the FELIWAY® CLASSIC Diffuser mimic these pheromones. It's almost as if your cat has already been in the room, marking things up with their own scent.

Now for the FUN - It's a Giveaway!
In celebration of Take Your Cat to the Vet Month, our friends at FELIWAY® have a super fun giveaway for us to offer. Three lucky winners will receive a FELIWAY® CLASSIC Spray and their adorable Nuzzle Buddy toy.

The Nuzzle Buddy is tested and approved by Waffles. He love hiding his toys under things and then stalking them and pouncing on them. The Nuzzle Buddy is perfect for this. The plush kitty head is attached to a small blanket that you can drape over things or hide toys under.

Though prizes can only ship to US addresses, we're opening the giveaway up to our readers worldwide so that if anyone outside the US wins, they can gift their prize to a friend or shelter here in the US.

Waffles the Beauty School Dropout Cat

WAFFLES:  Whatcha doing, Boss?

KATIE:  Practicing my beauty poses. Tilt head, gaze up and over the shoulder–

WAFFLES:  Wow, Boss. I didn't know you had to practice that beauty stuff.

KATIE:  It's all about playing to the camera, Waffles. Knowing your best features and accentuating the positive.

WAFFLES:  Accentuating? You mean like with a British accent? Or maybe French. I bet the ladies would LOVE–

KATIE:  No, Waffles. It's not complicated. Just point your best feature towards the camera. My best feature is my eyes. Your–

WAFFLES:  How's THIS, Boss?!

KATIE:  Yeah, I don't know if I'd call that your best feature. We don't need to see your tonsils. You've got nice eyes, Waffles. Try that.

WAFFLES:  Really, Boss! You think I have nice eyes?!

KATIE:  Just look towards the camera already. Sometime today.

WAFFLES:  What if I blink? Or what if I have an itch?

KATIE:  Don't overthink it, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Ok. Like this?

KATIE:  Three words. Beauty school dropout.

About Today's Photos
Today's photos are from way back in 2016. They're some of our favorites.

If you've been visiting us for a while, you know that Glogirly has taken literally thousands of photos. 99% of them are of Katie and Waffles.

Of those thousands of photos, virtually all of Katie's show her elegant, ladylike and demure expressions. With Waffles as her "inspiration," Katie has also mastered her sarcastic are-you-kidding-me glare. Much like Zoolander's Blue Steel, it's become her signature look.

Waffles, on the other hand, is anything but serious. That's one of the reasons Glogirly loves photographing him SO much. When his fun-loving personality shines through, he's like the cat of a thousand faces. She loves catching him looking up, looking guilty or with his mouth open, meowing and talking. FYI... the looking guilty thing comes quite naturally to him.

Weed Whacker Watchers

WAFFLES:  Boss! Did you see Glogirly? She's outside whapping weeds with the new weed whapper. She's got goggles on and everything!

KATIE:  It's a weed whacker, not a whapper. And you're on the kitchen counter. Again.

WAFFLES:  I'm just looking out the window.

KATIE:  While you're on the counter.

WAFFLES:  You're not going to tell, are you Boss?

KATIE:  That depends.

WAFFLES:  Depends on what?

KATIE:  Depends on whether or not you can be quiet and leave me in peace while I watch Glogirly whack the weeds.

WAFFLES:  Quiet?! I can TOTALLY be quiet! Should I be quiet now? Or maybe later? Ok, now. Is this quiet enough? Boss???

Weed Whacking?
Glogirly has been working on something called Wildfire Mitigation. That's a fancy way of saying she's doing stuff outside to make our house as safe as possible from wildfires. Last week a wildfire expert came out to the house to help us come up with a plan for all the things that need to be done. He's been a firefighter and fire chief for 12 years right here in Colorado.

Soon we'll be having a few trees removed to make the areas closest to our house more safe. There'll be a team of tree mitigation specialists with chainsaws, ropes, and winches that will handle the big stuff. Glogirly is doing some of the easier work herself, like trimming wild grass, smaller trees, and adding in more rock around the perimeter of our house.

Today she gave her new weed whacker it's first workout. But given how she came inside and collapsed on the sofa, we're thinking it's not the weed whacker that got the workout.

Cold Snap Naps

WAFFLES:  So Boss, just how many naps should we take today?

KATIE: As many as it takes, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  But how many is that?

KATIE:  A lot.

WAFFLES:  Like a big lot or a small lot?

KATIE:  Like a venti lot.

WAFFLES:  Huh?

KATIE:  You know,  like Starbucks. Tall, grande, venti...

WAFFLES:  Duh, Boss. Starbucks is just going to keep you awake.

An Early Taste of Fall
After a warmer than usual July, August in the mountains is like a breath of fresh, albeit chilly today, air. Would you believe we woke up to 49 degrees Sunday morning? Glogirly even had to dig out her wool slippers. But the sun was shining and the hummingbirds were humming as it warmed up to the mid-60s. A sun shower here, some puffy clouds there...it was a recipe for some beautiful afternoon naps.

Ok, so for Katie and Waffles, everyday is a nap recipe. But today was extra special.

The Houseguest Aftermath

KATIE:  The houseguests are gone and once again the blue chair is mine. All mine.

WAFFLES:  I kind of liked hanging out with the Fairy God Kitties in bed.

KATIE:  Seriously, Waffles...you'll sleep with anyone.

WAFFLES:  That's not true, Boss. I haven't slept with YOU.

KATIE:  In your dreams, Waffles.

And my nightmares.

About Today's Photos
Before Glogirly even got home from dropping our visitors off at the airport shuttle station, both Katie and Waffles had already settled into the now-empty guest room. While Katie was claiming her territory back, Waffles was wondering where his new sleeping pals had gone.

WAFFLES:  Where'd everybuddy go???

Saying Goodbye to the Fairy God Kitties

WAFFLES:  Boss! Where'd all the houseguests go? And what about their luggage? I wasn't done inspecting everything.

KATIE:  Are you still here, Waffles? I was hoping you'd have stowed away in their luggage. Cod knows you were flirting with the short one enough.

WAFFLES:  That's on account of she smelled like sausages.

KATIE:  By the looks of it I'm thinking it's the tall one that smelled like sausages.

About Today's Photos
We've had a wonderful time sharing our mountain paradise with Glogirly's Godparents, a.k.a. the Fairy God Kitties. Lots of beautiful scenery, yummy food, and of course CATS. Waffles has been sitting vigil inside the guest room. Well to be clear, he's been sitting vigil inside the laundry basket inside the guest room. Meanwhile, Katie is strutting her stuff all over the house and celebrating the fact that she's once again in charge.

Our Houseguests Smell Like Jimmy Dean

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, our visitors smell kinda good. This one smells like eggs and sausage and stuff.

KATIE:  Never trust a visitor that smells like Jimmy Dean.

WAFFLES:  But she doesn't look like a Jimmy Dean.

KATIE:  Of course she doesn't look like Jimmy Dean. They're all having Jimmy Dean in their breakfast egg bake this morning.

WAFFLES:  This doesn't look like Jimmy either. He's kind of...orange.

WAFFLES:  Like ME!!!
