What's In a Name? How GLOGIRLY the Cat Blog All Began.

Glogirly & Katie, 2013
Earlier this week on Facebook, we were asked about how the name of our blog came to be. Some of our blogging friends name their blog after a cat, a dog, a place or a funny phrase. There are as many stories as there are blogs. It was such a fun discussion we wanted to share our story with you.

Once upon a time...
It all started with a girl. Well, actually a boy. The girl fell in love with a boy named Gloman. Ok, so here's a big super secret... the boy's real name iss Tim. But for as long as anyone can remember, long before the girl fell in love with him, he was known as Gloman, a nickname inspired by his last name - Glovatsky.

So it only made sense that when the boy asked the girl to marry him, she would become Glogirl.

Fast forward seven years when Glogirl found herself in the midst of a daunting career change. Never having blogged before, in fact never having even followed a blog, she decided the next chapter in her career might involve social media so just maybe it would be smart to start a blog. Kind of a digital playground to learn and grow, become a better writer, photographer and designer.

Glogirly & Katie Kitten, 2005
So the girl went domain shopping. But to her shock, glogirl.com was taken. What??? Well her BFF calls her Girly so she added a Y onto her nickname, purchased glogirly.com and GLOGIRLY, as you know her, was born. Truth be told, she really likes Glogirly much more...it definitely better suits her personality and combines her love for Gloman with her love of being a girl. Even when she's 80 years old, she says she'll still be a girl. Blind optimism of denial...we'll let you decide.

That Defining Moment
The girl had a name for the blog, but she had no idea where to begin or what to write about. Staring at a blank screen, Gloman made a suggestion that in a single moment changed the course of all our lives. He said, "Why don't you have Katie introduce the blog?"

And so she did.

And so it stuck.

Falling in Love
The girl fell in love with writing in Katie's voice. She found so much inspiration and humor channeling what she was certain Katie would say if she could. It strengthened their bond, connecting them in a way Glogirly would have never thought possible. But that was only the start.

The Orange Invasion
When the orange fur storm known as Waffles joined the family a few years later, a whole new voice was born. A silly, innocent and full-of-life counterpoint to Katie's no nonsense style of articulate sarcasm.

The truth is, there's a little bit of Glogirly in each of them. And nothing brings her greater joy than when friends and readers become so entwined in Katie & Waffles' personalities and antics that they forget there's actually a person behind them.

Gloman & Waffles, 2015
Somewhere along the way, Glogirly added a tagline to our blog name. 'Tails of Two Funny Cats & Their Girl.' Mostly as something to help first time visitors know what we're all about. Experts have suggested we add 'Cats' to our URL. And one of these days when you come to visit, you may see that little change in our web address. But not until we catch up on all our catnaps and playtime. Priorities, you know.

Mom, He's Touching Me #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  I knight you, Sir Boss, Boss.

KATIE:  Waffles, what have I told you about touching me?

WAFFLES:  I'm not touching you, I'm touching your head.

KATIE:  Seriously? Same question, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Uh, can you repeat the question?

KATIE:  I said, what have I told you about touching me?

WAFFLES: I don't know Boss. Can't you remember?

KATIE:  I wasn't asking you, Waffles. It's more of a rhetorical question. I shouldn't even have to ask you. You should just know.

WAFFLES:  What am  I supposed to know again?

KATIE:  TOUCHING, Waffles. Touching!

WAFFLES:  Why didn't you say so?

WAFFLES:  ...How 'bout a hug?

Back to Normal at the Townhouse
Thank you so much for all the get-well-wishes you've left for our girl. She's still smiling a little crooked from her oral surgery on account of the stitches. And she's still sniffling and sneezing on account of her cold. But she's back to managing our meal service, litter box maintenance and play schedule so we're pretty sure that means she's on the mend.

In celebration of her recovery, we're back to normal too with our mealtime wrestling matches. Not that we're keeping score or anything.

Apple Juice, Ginger Ale & Ginger Cat

WAFFLES:  BOSS! I have Glogirly's subscription ready!

KATIE:  Prescription, Waffles. Not subscription. She doesn't need a People Magazine, she needs apple juice and cold medicine.

WAFFLES:  And a ginger cat. Definitely a ginger cat.

Our Girl's Way Under the Weather
Between 15 sleeps away from us, working elebenty hundred hours in just a couple of weeks and a date with her oral surgeon, Glogirly has managed to catch the mother of all colds. We're working hard to make sure she adheres to the 12 catnaps a day rule. We hope to be back to our silly funny selves in time for Waffles Wednesday.

WAFFLES:  But can't I be silly funny on Monday too???

Nurse Katie & Waffles Reporting for Duty

KATIE:  Glogirly is having oral surgery today so I'm getting ready to take care of her when she gets home.

WAFFLES:  What's oral surgery, Boss? Is it a new game we can play on our iPad?

KATIE:  Not exactly, Waffles. It's like going to the vet and instead of just getting a shot with a little needle, they use a big drill.

WAFFLES:  A big drill? Like on HGTV???

Glogirly's Date with the Oral Surgeon
Just when Glogirly has started to recover from her extended work trip, she's got a not-so-fun date with the oral surgeon Friday morning. For those of you in-the-know about such things, the procedure she's having is called an Apicoectomy and it's performed by an Endodontist. Something Waffles will never be able to pronounce and if you don't already know what it is, it's probably best to not even ask. There's a dentist, a big drill, they go in sideways through the jaw... say no more.

She's getting valium, gas (not the Mexican bean kind) and plenty of pain killers to help her through it all. Gloman is her driver and we're serving as her primary home care team. She's got a prescription for lots and lots of kitty cuddles, catnaps and Vicodin.

Recovery takes a few days, so we're expecting she'll be pretty loopy for awhile. Good thing Gloman is familiar with our meal service regimen. Surely we'll be needing extra nourishment with all the caregiving we'll be administering.

She's HOME!

WAFFLES:  EMOH EMOCLEW?

KATIE:  Waffles, you're reading the sign backwards. It's Welcome Home.

WAFFLES:  Thanks Boss, but I was only downstairs using the litter box.

KATIE:  It's not for you, Waffles. It's for Glogirly.

WAFFLES:  Is she home yet? Is she? Is she?

Our Girl is HOME!
15 sleeps (not including elebenty hundred naps) ... Glogirly is finally home! She was SO happy to see us and we were just as happy to see her. As we're writing this, we're all getting ready to crawl in bed for some much needed rest. Especially Glogirly. In the past 15 days, she's worked 190 hours. That's more work than us kitties do in nine lifetimes!

When we asked Glogirly what she wanted us to write about for her homecoming post, she had a hard time finding the words. There were lots of hugs, lots of I love you's and tears of joy. She told us that every night before she went to sleep in the hotel, she'd look at our photos and think about how much she loved us.

So we thought is was fitting to share two of her favorite photos she's taken of us.

Don't worry, Glogirly. You're home now. Right where you belong.

Waffles Waiting in a Suitcase

KATIE:  Waffles, what are you doing in your suitcase?

WAFFLES:  Waiting for Glogirly. She's coming home soon so I thought I'd wait for her here.

KATIE:  Waffles, the last thing Glogirly will want to see is another suitcase.

WAFFLES:  Even if I'm in it???

KATIE:  Fine Waffles, go ahead and wait in there. Just don't expect your regular meal service here.

WAFFLES:  Can't we get takeout?

KATIE:  *sigh*

Glogirly's Trip Update and Photos
Just when we thought our girl would be jetting home to us, we just found out she's been asked to stay one more day to help out a dear friend she's made on her trip. So Waffles will have to sit in that empty suitcase for one more day and one more sleep.

Thank COD she'll be back in time for Waffles Wednesday.

...ok, we know what you're thinking.
Wait, Waffles has his own suitcase???

Can We Trade in our Friday for a Monday? ... and Scenes from the Cat Sitter

WAFFLES:  Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh–

KATIE:  Waffles, what on earth are you trying to say?

WAFFLES:  I'm tired, Boss. When is Glogirly coming home?

KATIE:  Monday night.

WAFFLES:  I would gladly take my Monday today and pay you for my Friday later.

KATIE:  Waffles, the saying goes, "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."

WAFFLES:  Hamburger? How about chicken?

Photos from the Cat Sitter
When Gloman had to spend a night away from home on business, our trusty cat sitter took over our meal and litter service. And our 'pick up the garbage off the kitchen floor' service too. (Waffles?)
Our girl comes home on MONDAY NIGHT!!! That's just three more sleeps!!!

Is Glogirly Cheating on Us? #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Boss!  I think Glogirly is cheating on us. You know, while she's away working and stuff.

KATIE:  How could she be cheating, Waffles? She's setting up Christmas displays in a showroom all day. She's surrounded by Santas and fake snow. Not cats.

WAFFLES:  I don't know, Boss. Look at these. Maybe she's getting ideas for our Christmas outfits for next year.

KATIE:  I'm SO not wearing a beard. (see below)

Glogirly's Trip Update and Photos
Monday marked Glogirly's halfway point on her away-from-home work assignment, which means she's officially in the home stretch.

She figures she's set up displays with nearly 200 Santas! And here we thought there was only ONE Santa. A few of those Santas have... wait for it... CATS! We thought you'd like a glimpse of some of the collectable Santas she's working with and their kitties. These are close up "macro" photos so you can see all the sweet details. Each of the Santas holding these cats stands at about 11" high or so. The kitties are teeny-tiny. Most of their heads are smaller than the tip of Glogirly's thumb!

Gee, what do you think is written on that orange one's hat?

Did you know Santa is also a VET??? Look out, kitties!

And then there was the beard.

All of the details in the kitties, and the Santas, are painted by hand. From the pink noses to the green eyes.

Katie's not quite sure this little orange guy (who we've dubbed 'Waffles') is wearing the right hat.

Santa Paws!!!

All of the Santas and kitties you're seeing are from the Department 56 Possible Dreams Collection for 2016. Soon the World Center Market in Vegas, where Glogirly is setting up their holiday displays for them, will be bustling with retailers swooning over the new lines of merchandise and placing their orders for next Christmas.

The only order we're interested in though, is ordering Glogirly HOME!

Waffles Scores Big with Secret Paws

WAFFLES:  Priority?! This HAS to be good!

KATIE:  You know that box is for both of us, don't you? It's our Secret Paws gift. OUR Secret Paws gift.

WAFFLES:  BOSS! This box is loaded with cool presents and stuff!

KATIE:  For both of us, remember?

WAFFLES:  This is totally for me.

WAFFLES:  And so is this.

WAFFLES:  And this too. Look! it's a Waffle! On account of I'm Waffles.

KATIE:  Serenity now.

WAFFLES:  Hey, Boss. I'll borrow you the abomi-nibble snowman guy. Careful, he squeaks.

KATIE:  It's Abominable, Waffles. Not abomi-nibble.

WAFFLES:  Whatever Boss, I think he tastes pretty good.

WAFFLES:  And Boss! Check out the butterfly and bug balls! I'll borrow you the butterfly if you want! I call firsties on the bugs.

WAFFLES:  There's even CANDY. For me and for Glogirly.

KATIE:  So much for your New Years Resolution of 'sharing' more.

Thank You to our Special Secret Paws!
THANK YOU to Julie and the Church Cats, Bridget, Tinker, Chopin and Anastasia. You sure know how to spoil a couple of blogging cats! ...and our girl too. We love our treats and toys SO very much. From the catnip Greenies to the freeze dried chicken (!) to the bug balls and handmade waffle toy... (and those are just a few of the cool things we received) we thank you from the bottom of our furry little hearts.

So What is Secret Paws?
One of our favorite holiday traditions is a little thing we call Secret Paws. The cat blogging community is a small and close knit group of wonderful bloggers, writers, friends and of course cats. Names are exchanged, fun gifts are bought, many are handmade and they're packaged up and sent them off to friends around the world.

Glogirly's Trip Update
Today marks the halfway point. Glogirly comes home one week from today. It's pretty safe to say that everyone is anxious for her quick and safe return.

She's also anxious to share a little more about what she's doing and some of the things she's setting up in the Department 56 showroom at the World Market Center in Las Vegas. Let's just say she's got glitter everywhere. And we mean everywhere.

More to come!
