KATIE:  What, with YOU???

Coming & Going, Going & Coming

We said goodbye this afternoon to our dear friend Lisa from A Tonk's Tail. She came to stay with us in Colorado for a creative photography (and cat) retreat with Glogirly. There was lots of hiking, picture taking and This Is Us binging.

We have more houseguests arriving just around the corner, so naturally, that means today is laundry day. Fresh towels and sheets and blankets, oh my!

Cat Ladies in Colorado

One of the absolute best parts of blogging is meeting people from all over the world. Both readers and other bloggers. Nearly 10 years ago when Glogirly first started our cat blog, she had no idea there were "others" blogging about or as their cats. Was she ever wrong! One of her now-dearest friends, fellow cat blogger Lisa Richman, from A Tonk's Tail, has been visiting us here in the mountains for the past few days. It's a creative retreat for her sponsored by the company she works with. And of course CATS are an integral part of any creative retreat, right?

WAFFLES:  So Boss, have you noticed Lisa smells like a bunch of other cats? 

KATIE:  She can smell all she wants as long as she doesn't get in the way of my dinner.

WAFFLES:  So Miss Lisa... you kind of smell funny you know. But I think you're still pretty ok.

Getting Ready for Houseguests

One of the most fun parts of living in the mountains is being able to share our little corner of paradise with visiting friends and family. And today we're welcoming fellow cat blogger, Lisa Richman, from A Tonk's Tail, to our home for a mini vacation visit.



Fortunately for Katie and Waffles, Lisa's leaving her clowder at home. But that doesn't mean they'll be welcoming her with open paws and friendly purrs. For just about any cat, new visitors, especially those that stay overnight, can spell s-t-r-e-s-s.

Total Eclipse of the Cats

While millions of people in the path of totality marveled at the surreal visual effects of Monday's total eclipse, Glogirly got a glimpse of what 92% looks like. And though it was cool to watch the moon overtake the sun through her nerdy NASA-approved glasses, the effect on our own landscape was subtle at best. Still, it's hard to complain about another beautiful day in our mountain cat paradise with plenty of blue skies, sun and puffy clouds.

She was all set up with her photo and video gear on the deck in hopes of capturing something really cool. Once she shot a panorama of the view during the peak of our eclipse, she took to the great indoors to see what you-know-who was up to.

WAFFLES:  So Boss, what's the big whoop with this eclipse guy? He's not going to steal our sun puddles, is he?

KATIE:  Well he might borrow them for a little bit.

WAFFLES:  I never said he could borrow mine.  

KATIE:  Relax, Waffles. Take a nap. Your sun puddle will be here when you wake up.

 WAFFLES:  It better be. Or there's going to be trouble for that eclipse guy.


Our So-Called Eclipse Panorama
Though we didn't get to see anything dramatic or capture it on video, we did get kind of a cool panoramic video of our 8,000' high mountain cat view. The mountains in the distance at the start are some of the highest peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park, including Longs Peak at an elevation of 14,259'. The video pans towards Eldorado Canyon and ends with our view of the flats through an opening in the canyon.

This Counting Firewood is Making Me Sleepy

WAFFLES:  So Boss, just how much firewood did we get?

KATIE: A cord.

WAFFLES:  A cord? You mean like ribbon and rope and stuff? We're not supposed to have any ribbon and rope, you know. 

KATIE:  No, Waffles. A cord is a measurement for wood. It's 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep by 4 feet tall. It's the equivalent of 128 cubic feet.  

WAFFLES:  That's too much math, Boss. Besides, what do we need with 128 feet?

KATIE:  Well, Glogirly probably has enough shoes for 128 feet.


Sunday at the Splitter
Glogirly had grand plans of taking some beauty photos of Katie & Waffles, but at the last minute she heard from a canyon neighbor she was buying firewood from that he was ready to bring everything over to the house. Would you believe he drove it all the way from Minneapolis, Kansas to Colorado? We didn't even know there was a Minneapolis in Kansas!

That's our driveway where the nice woodman is splitting all the logs. He and Glogirly stacked up everything around the corner of the garage for easy access this winter. That gunk on her face is sawdust and dirt. Not exactly the beauty regimen she had planned for.

It's aged hardwood. All oak. And from what we hear it burns clean and long. It better, considering how incredibly heavy it is. Nearly 4,000 pounds.

No wonder Glogirly took 3 Advil and went to bed before the sun even set. She better set her alarm so she doesn't miss the eclipse!

Oh, and see that little fish on the split wood? Our woodman bought his splitter from a guy that had a Jesus fish symbol attached to the inside of it so every time you split a log, it embosses the little fish into the end of the wood. Guess we'll be having a lot holy fires this winter!

Maybe we can get him a cat symbol for next year.

Kitchen Counter on a Technicality

WAFFLES:  Whoa, Boss! This thing is magic! It's, it's...moving. I think it's alive!

 

KATIE:  It's the kitchen faucet, Waffles. Hardly alive. What, did you turn it on with your paw again?

WAFFLES:  You mean by touching this handle thingy? 

KATIE:  You know you're not supposed to be on the kitchen counter, right?

WAFFLES:  I'm not on the counter, Boss. I'm on the windowsill by the counter. 

KATIE:  I've taught you well Waffles. My work here is done.

About Today's Photos

It's true. House rules state that no cat should be on the kitchen counter. At least when anyone is looking. But with a kitchen sink the size of Texas and cupboard to cupboard windows, Katie and Waffles have found a way around those so-called rules.

About Today's Photos

Usually when Gloman packs his suitcase, Katie and Waffles are right there ready to help. But today, when he started gathering up his camera gear and t shirts, Katie all of a sudden got a little frisky. So frisky in fact, she launched into one of her most spirited pole dances ever. 

Perhaps it was her way of trying to charm Gloman into staying. And it was a valiant effort. But sadly, he's catching an early morning flight and will be back in MN in time for breakfast. 

Not to worry though...he's coming back in just a couple of weeks to celebrate their wedding anniversary. And the anniversary of when Katie was adopted.

More and More of Waffles to Love

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, check out me and Gloman. He said he's super happy to see me. And that I get more and more handsome every day. 

KATIE:  More and more handsome every day? That's not what I heard, Waffles. Try, "there's more and MORE of YOU every day. 

WAFFLES:  That's what I said. There's more and more of my handsomeness every day. 

KATIE:  And your daily sampling of my breakfast has absolutely nothing to do with this "more and more" of you?

WAFFLES:  NO.  Sometimes I sample your dinner too.

 About Today's Photos

Gloman arrived in Colorado on Friday and it took only a few seconds for Katie and Waffles to welcome him home with open paws and soft meows. Waffles and Gloman have been busy catching up on fetch tournaments and laptime. Katie spends her time stretching out in sunpuddles with him, chatting up a storm as they talk about life, love and managing Waffles.

Earlier Today, Glogirly and Gloman enjoyed a spin through Rocky Mountain National Park. It's a gorgeous drive and although they're usually taking photos of the scenery and animals, today they attempted to get a selfie of the two of them. And Glogirly's thumb.

WAFFLES:  Today's the day, right Boss? 

KATIE:  Right, Waffles. Gloman arrives early this morning. Did you get him a present?

WAFFLES:  You mean like a rainbow crinkle ball? He likes to play fetch, you know. What'd you get him? Another hairball?

KATIE:  NO. I'm going to shower him with my love. That's my present.

WAFFLES: But Boss, you don't like the shower. 

With Gloman, Everything is Pawsible

Ok, maybe not cats-in-showers-pawsible...but when Gloman comes to visit, it's like the sun is shining, the birds are singing and everything is right in our little corner of the world.
