Flashback to Waffles' First Halloween

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, can I borrow your hat?

KATIE:  You can HAVE my hat.

WAFFLES:  Cool! It matches my dress.

KATIE:  You do realize that dresses are typically for girls don't you? And by girls, I mean the two-legged kind. No self-respecting cat would be seen in purple satin, not to mention a tulle skirt.

WAFFLES:  Tool skirt? You mean like for my tape measure and hammer and stuff?

KATIE:  *sigh*

WAFFLES:  I bet the ladies really like a mancat who knows where to put his tools.

KATIE:  Waffles, I'm not going to touch that one. This is supposed to be a G-rated blog.

Halloween Flashback - 2013
Waffles' first Halloween and Waffles' first dress. (!) Apparently, the warlock costumes were all sold out. No worries though. Ever since he was just a few months old, Waffles has been very comfortable embracing his feminine side. Today, six years later, he's still trying to get Katie to embrace his feminine side. Actually, he just wants her to embrace any of his sides.

We were all just playing around with costumes on a Saturday afternoon in October. Katie and Waffles are both very good sports when it comes to wearing their harnesses. So occasionally we try out a costume as long as it's styled like a harness. But we've since hung up our hats. Both Katie and Waffles have decided that cats in hats are much better in Dr. Seuss books.

Happy Halloween!
Please stay safe everyone, and enjoy some fun-sized treats. Glogirly sure has been enjoying hers! Apparently, she forgot that we don't get any trick or treaters here in the mountains. Or maybe she didn't. LOL!

Cats by the Fire

KATIE:  Seriously Waffles, you're hogging the fire again. You've got the primo spot.

WAFFLES:  Yeah but I'm all comfortable and everything. Glogirly even moved my red chair right in front of the fireplace for me.

KATIE:  Did you say your red chair? Why is it that every chair in the house is yours, regardless of color?

WAFFLES:  What can I say? I have a lot of chairs.

Kitty, It's Cold Outside!
We're right in the middle of our first big winter storm here in Colorado. At the time we're writing this (Sunday evening) we've got about 7" and it's still coming down. It will be snowing off and on through Wednesday with pretty cold temps, so we might just be looking at an overall accumulation of almost 2 FEET!

Meanwhile, we're putting our fireplace through the paces. Nothing beats a lazy weekend soaking in the warmth of a real wood fire. And the smell is heavenly!

Snow Cats!

WAFFLES:  What do you smell, Boss?

KATIE:  You mean besides an orange cat?

WAFFLES:  There's an orange cat outside our window???

KATIE:  Snow, Waffles. I smell snow.

WAFFLES:  Snow? I didn't think snow smelled.

KATIE:  That's the magic of Colorado, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  The snow might be magic and all, but I don't want any of it touching my toesies.

First Big Snow!
We woke up Thursday morning to the most beautiful view. Snowcapped mountain peaks, clouds hovering just below... It's officially winter in Colorado!

The sun is out though and it's already melting. FAST. We think we got about 10-12" last night.

And with a high tomorrow of 56 degrees, the pretty white stuff won't last long.

Giddyup Glogirly!

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! Do you think Glogirly's hat will fit me? I want to be a cowgirl too!

KATIE:  You can't be a cowgirl, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  But Glogirly says I can be whatever I want to be.

KATIE:  You mean like, annoying?

WAFFLES:  NO, Boss. I want to be a cowgirl.

KATIE:  Well those boots are never going to fit.

WAFFLES:  Whaddya mean, Boss? My cowgirl fetch toy fits just fine inside it.

KATIE:  Waffles, you do realize you're a boy. And a CAT. Right?

WAFFLES:  Nope, I'm a cowgirl. Just like Glogirly.

Glogirly's Murder Mystery Adventure
Glogirly met up with our friends and neighbors in the historic, little western town of Gold Hill, Colorado. The Gold Hill Inn hosts a murder mystery dinner. The mystery was set in 1936 and the dinner guests were invited to dress up in the same era.

Everyone had so much fun putting together their outfits. Glogirly went as a western gunslinger. She's thinking of making her boots and hat a regular part of her Colorado wardrobe.

Though she and her mystery team only got one of the two murders solved correctly, everyone had a blast. When the dinner was over, they gathered at the saloon next door for some live music, then hung out by the fireplace telling ghost stories, eating snacks, and enjoying some adult beverages.

They all stayed the night at the Bluebird Lodge & Gold Hill Inn. Rumor has it, it's haunted, but Glogirly never had any ghostly encounters.

Gloman couldn't make it to Colorado for the mystery weekend, so Glogirly went with our dear friend, Cesar. He lives in the canyon is the fire mitigation expert that helped us make our property safe last year.

And since we know you're wondering... the maid did it!

Waffles and the Cat Toy Jackpot

WAFFLES:  Look Boss, I hit the jackpot!

KATIE:  What do you mean, YOU hit the jackpot?

WAFFLES:  I mean, look at all these toys! All for me! Don't you know what a jackpot is?

KATIE: Yes, Waffles. I know what a jackpot is. My question isn't about whether or not it's a jackpot. My question is why do you think it's YOUR jackpot?

WAFFLES:  I don't know. I just saw them all sitting here. It's like they were calling my name.

KATIE:  Pretty sure that was Glogirly calling your name. Something about all the kitchen cabinet doors being open again?

WAFFLES:  I liked it better when the jackpot was calling my name.

About Today's Photos
Today's photos are from just last year when one of Katie and Waffles' very special friends, sent them a surprise package FILLED with tons and tons of fuzzy, sparkly and puffy balls. Pink ones, orange ones, even rainbow balls!

Since sharing is something of a mystery concept to Waffles, there was plenty of spirited conversation and negotiation surrounding the big toy jackpot.

Eventually, Katie prevailed and got her pick of the litter. She's partial to the sparkles.

Little Cats on the Colorado Prairie

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, nice bonnet.

KATIE:  Yeah, well look who's wearing braids and playing with dolls.

WAFFLES:  Uh, Boss? I have to go.

KATIE:  Go where? To the general store to pick up another outfit for that doll of yours?

WAFFLES:  NO, Boss. I have to GO-go.

KATIE:  What, didn't you go before we left 2019?

WAFFLES:  Bo-ss!

KATIE:  I hate to tell you Waffles, but it's 1874 and there's no such thing as an indoor litter box.

WAFFLES:  Uh, I think I'll just hold it.

Glogirly and the Wild West
Glogirly's got western on the brain. She's been putting together an outfit to wear to a 1930s themed murder mystery dinner this weekend. Would you believe when she was searching for inspiration, she came across one of our all-time favorite TV-spoofs?! When we first published this back in 2014, Waffles and his braids just about broke the internet.

Granted, the late 1800s Little House era predates her costume. But she'll be decking herself out in classic western wear. Think Calamity Jane meets Jesse from Toy Story.

We purromise to share photos next week!

The Great Plastic Pumpkin

We're already halfway through October! We thought it would be fun to look back on the day the Great Pumpkin paid us a visit at our Minneapolis townhome. We hope you enjoy the flashback!

WAFFLES:  Look, Boss! The Great Pumpkin... it's really REAL!

KATIE:  Waffles, there's nothing great about that. It's a plastic pumpkin.

WAFFLES:  But it's HUGE, Boss.

WAFFLES:  And magical.

KATIE:  Well if it can make you disappear, it must have some kind of magical powers.

KATIE:  Waffles?

KATIE:  Waffles? Where'd you go? Waffles?

KATIE:  Well who'd have ever thought that Halloween would be my new favorite holiday?

 About Today's Photos
A few Octobers ago, when Glogirly came home with the big plastic pumpkin, it took Waffles all of 10 seconds to dive inside and hunker down. Katie has never been a fan of enclosed spaces, especially enclosed spaces inside giant orange plastic pumpkins. But when Waffles looked like he'd never come out, she became very curious. We're certain she had no plans on joining him, but more likely was peering over the edge hoping for a little of that Great Pumpkin disappearing magic.

Eventually, the treats came out and then it turned into a big free-for-all.

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss!  I got a catnip Greenie! What'd you get? Did you get something good?

KATIE:  Freeze-dried chicken.

WAFFLES:  We should totally trade.

KATIE:  In your dreams, Waffles. That's like trading a Reeses for a measly circus peanut.

Glogirly and the Three Bears - Two Years Later

Today's blog post is from two years ago...the day our big and furry "neighbors" paid us a surprise visit. We haven't seen them since, which in some ways may be a good thing! Enjoy the photos of our neighborhood WILDlife!

WAFFLES:  Uh, Boss? I think we've got some new neighbors.

KATIE:  What do you mean? I don't see any new neighbors.

WAFFLES:   I think you better come over here, Boss. They look kind of like Glogirly's teddy bear, except bigger. Like WAY bigger.

The Three Bears
The internet exploded when we posted these photos  late one evening two years ago. Glogirly was minding her own business, Netflixing on the living room sofa, when she heard Waffles chattering over by the kitchen window. She craned her neck up and looked over the back of the sofa, ready to tell him to stop opening up the cupboard doors again, when she saw THREE bears RIGHT outside the dining room window. And when we say right outside the window, we mean it. They were less than 6 feet from the glass.

A momma black bear and her two cubs were chomping away on what used to be bountiful, wild raspberry bushes. One of the cubs was attempting to swing from the empty hummingbird feeder.

Always ready for Katie and Waffles to do something cute, Glogirly had her camera within reach and was ready. In between hyperventilating, and numerous "OMGs," she managed to snap off a few photos. Don't worry, they were all taken from the indoor safety of the dining room and kitchen windows.

It was quite a sight! None of us have ever seen anything like this before. After they left, everyone was a little unnerved. There was lots of pacing and looking out the windows.

Later in the evening, in an unprecedented display of, well... sheer madness– Katie and Waffles both slept right by Glogirly's side ALL night.

The Snow That Knocked Out the Internet

WAFFLES:  BOSS!!! The interwebs are broken! How am I going to Facebook with my girlfriends???

KATIE:  Don't know. Don't care.

WAFFLES:  Did the snow break the internet, Boss?

KATIE:  That's what they're saying.

WAFFLES:  So then the snow better hurry up and fix it.

KATIE:  Yeah, it doesn't quite work that way, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Well that's messed up.

KATIE:  Perhaps you should just relax and do what cats do best.

WAFFLES:  How can I relax without my interwebs? And my girlfriends???

Whaddya MEAN Our Interwebs Are Broken?
Today's blog post is coming to you live from Glogirly's Jeep, parked at the bus station where she's picking up a cat lady friend that's coming to visit for the weekend. She's using her phone as a hotspot so she can connect while she waits.

Why? Well, the short answer is because we had a big snowstorm that knocked out the internet. When it came back on earlier today, Glogirly's modem somehow restored itself to the original factory settings which really messed up our network and has made it impossible to connect.

Fortunately, our visiting cat lady is way more techie than Glogirly and assures us that she'll have us up and running in no time.

In the meantime, Waffles waits.

WAFFLES:  *sigh*
