Top 5 Feline Loves #NationalCatDay

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, what's that big pink dot doing on our blog?

KATIE:  We're telling everyone what our Top 5 Loves are. 

WAFFLES:  Well I don't know about you, but my 5 are chicken. There's white meat, dark meat–

KATIE:  Waffles, yesterday was #NationalCatDay. We're sharing the things we love the most with our friends and readers. Certainly you must love more than just chicken.

WAFFLES:  JUST chicken? How can you say just chicken? Besides, you said National Cat Day was yesterday.

KATIE:  Waffles, that doesn't change a thing. As far as we're concerned, everyday is National Cat Day.

WAFFLES:  But what about National Waffles Day? National Chicken Lovers Day? What about–

KATIE:  Waffles, not everyday is about you. 

WAFFLES:  But you just said, everyday is Cat Day, right?

1.  Love Thy Neighbor

KATIE:  No tongue, Waffles. No tongue. 

2.  Love Thy Toilet Paper

WAFFLES:  Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. Lots of paperwork.

3.  Love Thy Dinner

WAFFLES:  Are you going to eat that?

4.  Love Thy CatDaddy

WAFFLES:  A little to the– yeah, that's the spot. 

 5.  Love Thy Girl

KATIE:  I wish for a world where every cat knows love.

WAFFLES:  Do-do-do. No one in here but us chickens. Wait. Chickens?

WAFFLES:  *inaudible chortling*

WAFFLES:  I'm still looking for the chickens.

If you follow our shenanigans on Facebook, you're probably all too familiar with Waffles and his propensity to lock himself in the bathroom. Yesterday he shut himself in SIX times. Fortunately he only does it when Glogirly is close by and can hear him. Not that it matters... he seems to really enjoy his private time in the powder room. 

We're not really sure what he does in there. There are no snacks, no toys, not even a Playcat magazine. Every time we open the door to let him out, there he is, sitting patiently on the toilet seat. Head slightly turned. Dazed and most definitely confused. 

Oh, Waffles.

KATIE:  I don't know what all the fuss is about. I'm perfectly fine on this side of the powder room door. Just as long as Waffles is on the other.

Cat and Butterfly

WAFFLES: 

Cat and butterfly,  ♫♩

Up in the air we like to fly!  ♫♩

Cat and butter–

KATIE:  Waffles, you may like to fly high, but I'm keeping my paws firmly on the ground. Besides, the song is, "DOG and Butterfly."

WAFFLES:  Well that's not right. Everyone knows dogs don't fly.

KATIE:  Yeah well, cats don't either. 

WAFFLES:  That's not true, Boss. 

I believe I can fly. ♫♩

I believe I can touch the sky. ♫♩

KATIE:  Waffles, enough with the ear worms already. 

WAFFLES:  I can fly from my cat tree to the way-up-high window! Want to see?

KATIE:  You mean the window above our drinking fountain? That didn't work out too well for you the other day.

WAFFLES:  Uh...

KATIE:  Yeah, I don't think you've got enough wind beneath those wings of yours.

WAFFLES:  But Boss, I thought you were the wind beneath my wings.

About Today's Photos

Yesterday the butterfly wings we've been anxious to model came out. Glogirly thought they they'd make the perfect Halloween costume because they can be not so easily attached to our favorite harnesses. So it's really like not wearing a costume at all, right?

TIP: Make sure the wings are attached BEFORE you put the harness on. 

Once we were over the hump of securing the wings to the back of the harness, Waffles didn't seem to mind them at all. Maybe it was the bag of treats Glogirly had clenched in her hand, or maybe it was the bug staring at him through the window– he forgot all about his wings. (That first photo of Waffles shows him chattering at his new bug friend.)

Katie? Well she's always been more of a ground dweller than a tree dweller. And it became pretty clear she's not a fan of the wings. Just like real butterflies, so beautiful for those fleeting seconds you can see and enjoy them, they lasted about 60 fleeting seconds on Katie.

 KATIE:  The view's always better from the arms of my girl.

WAFFLES:  Whaddya mean, your girl? She's MY girl.

KATIE:  Waffles, you're just never going to get the whole *I was here first thing* are you? Lucky for you, I'm willing to share. Just keep the gooey stuff to a minimum, ok?

WAFFLES:  Gooey stuff? What gooey stuff?

About Today's Photos
Yesterday, we helped a fellow blogging friend with a special project. She needed some of our favorite love-filled photos. So we searched our files for the best of the best. And a few that actually had Glogirly in them. Since she's usually behind the camera, it's pretty rare to find any that she's actually in.

Katie's were taken last year by Gloman next to our favorite Bird TV windows. That first one of Waffles was taken earlier this year on our family vacation in Northern Minnesota. Waffles is very much into headbutting. Glogirly and Gloman love it when he does that to them. Katie? She's not really a fan of Waffles' headbutts.

The last two photos of Waffles were taken just last night... by Glogirly. Or rather, Glogirly's laptop. She had her computer on her lap and was goofing around on Facebook preparing one of our blog posts. Waffles had other ideas though and was doing everything he could to get between her and the screen. So in the middle of the headbutts, twirls and purrs, she took some selfies of her and Waffles with the Photo Booth app on her computer.

Rumor has it this love fest continued on for nearly an HOUR. Waffles is such a lush.

KATIE:  Just click your paws Waffles, and we'll be right back home on our blog tomorrow.

Have you ever clicked on a link and gotten a 404 error message telling you the page you were looking for is no longer there?

Waffles & His Chicken Hat #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! How do you like my new chicken hat? 

KATIE:  Waffles, that's a pirate's hat.

WAFFLES:  I didn't know pirates ate chicken. No wonder they're so awesome.

KATIE:  Waffles, that's not a chicken on your hat. It's a parrot. And he's not your lunch.

WAFFLES:  Is he my dinner?

KATIE:  You can't eat a parrot, Waffles. He's supposed to be your friend.

About Today's Photos
A few weeks ago we received an email from a PR person with Martha Stewart Pets. She offered to send Waffles a Halloween costume for him to try on. When the package arrived, it was pretty clear it was not designed with cats in mind. Waffles is an adventurous feline when it comes to fashion. But even he has to draw the line at a full bodysuit.

Yesterday we attempted to make a little joke by publishing a "404" post. If you've ever clicked to a website and gotten a 404 error message, you probably know what we're talking about. It means that the page you were looking for is no longer there. In other words, if it's not a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, Katie & Waffles aren't really here. Ok, so they were here. But we were just pretending.

Rumor has it, we'll be pretending again tomorrow with another reminder about our new posting schedule. So when you get your morning email from us, just remember we're here, but not really here. Really.

Waffles & the Ghost Story #SundaySelfies

KATIE: Waffles, you've been scaring me since the moment we met. Now turn off the light and quit fooling around.

WAFFLES:  This is much better. Ok, are you ready?

KATIE:  Ready for what?

WAFFLES:  For my ghost story, Boss!

KATIE:  Waffles, do you even know any ghost stories?

WAFFLES:  Uh, yeah. I know LOTS of ghost stories.

KATIE:  Alright then. Let's hear one.

WAFFLES:  Ok. So once upon a time there was a ghost. And he had a story. Um, did I tell you he was a ghost?

KATIE:  Waffles, you wouldn't know a ghost if it bit you on the–

About Today's Photos
Every once in awhile, when there's a break in the daily patty cake action, Katie and Waffles will occasionally look like they're having a real conversation. There's eye contact, a tilt of the head and sometimes even a tiny vocalization. Of course Glogirly would give just about anything to hop inside their heads and hear what they're really talking about. A girl can dream!

And so she does.

Today's Cameo Cat: Bagherra

Handsome Bagheera spent quite a bit of time laying low at the shelter the first few weeks after he was left at PAWS by his owners. But after a while he got used to the new sounds, smells, feline roommates, and people.

When he emerged from his carpeted cubby the shelter volunteers discovered he’s a shy but VERY friendly boy who craves attention, affection and love.
Bagheera has such interesting fur with subtle stripes on his legs and a white undercoat. He is just three years old and would be perfect in a quiet loving home with other cats.

Bagherra is waiting patiently for you at PAWS, Pet Animal Welfare Society in Norwalk, CT.
