Who Yawned It Better?

WAFFLES:  Ready, Boss? On your mark, get set –

WAFFLES:  YAAAWWN!!!

KATIE:  Yeeeeeee-awwwww-uuuuhnn–

WAFFLES:  AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

KATIE:  That was a scream, Waffles. Totally a scream.

About Today's Photos
Katie and Waffles have been spending more and more time lounging in tandem. And in close proximity. The bedroom chair is a coveted spot with a great view of the mountains, trees, and birds. Not that it really matters considering their eyes are usually closed while they slumber the hours away.

The top of the back cushion is definitely the primo spot, while the ottoman is first runner-up.

Surprisingly, Katie and Waffles have been taking turns. One day Waffles will be on top. The next day Katie will be on top. We're not sure if there's a sign-up sheet somewhere or if there've been some kind of closed-door secret negotiations.

Perhaps there really is a chance of world peace.

It Does the Heart Good to Say Thank You

We're pausing this Memorial Day to remember the people we love and say thank you. Friends, family, teachers, soldiers...some we've known our whole lives. They've touched our hearts and helped shape who we are. Some remain anonymous, having given so much, so selflessly, for this beautiful country we call home.

For us, Memorial Day serves as a reminder to honor those who we miss as well as those who continue to inspire us and love us unconditionally.

From Glogirly
To her Dad,
"Thank you for showing me the good and joy in everything and everyone. And thank you for teaching me the power of optimism. You will always be my hero."
~ Glogirly

To her Mom,
"Thank you for inspiring me to study hard, dream big and love unconditionally. And thank you for showing me how the simplest of things can create the biggest of joys."
~ Glogirly

From Katie
To Gloman,
"Thank you for rescuing me, loving me and truly understanding me. And thank you for our private conversations and cuddles safe out of Waffles' reach."
~ Katie

From Waffles
To Glogirly,
"Thanks for choosing me to be your special small-man. And thank you for letting me get away with so much stuff because I'm cute. And handsome. Definitely handsome."
~ Waffles

From All of Us
To Our Friends & Readers,
"Thank you for smiling, giggling and sharing our lives with us. You mean more to us than you will ever know."
~ Glogirly, Gloman, Katie & Waffles

Weekend-Ready with Cats & Watermelons

WAFFLES:  *uuuummmph* Man, this thing is heavy. How do those Harlem Globetrotter guys do it?

KATIE:  Waffles, what on earth are you doing???

WAFFLES:  This isn't regulation size, Boss. It's too big. I don't think I can shoot hoops with it.

KATIE: Shoot hoops??? Seriously? Waffles, it's a watermelon. Not a basketball. Oh, and...you're a CAT.

WAFFLES:  Wait! I've almost got it. Just have to dribble–

KATIE:  Waffles, the only thing you're capable of dribbling is food on your chin.

WAFFLES:  He shoots! He scores!

WAFFLES:  *AAAAAAAHHHH!* And the crowd goes WILD!

WAFFLES:  Hey! Where'd the crowd go?

Watermelon is Officially In-Season
It's the big Memorial Day weekend here in the US. That means the watermelons are out in full force at the grocery store. Glogirly can't walk by the big green fruit without thinking about Waffles, the not-so-famous Harlem Globetrotter.

Today's pics are from Waffles' first watermelon encounter back when we lived at the Townhouse. Glogirly had just returned home from the market and her arms were so overloaded with grocery bags, she had to set the watermelon down on the floor before she could make it to the kitchen.

We'd heard that some cats like watermelon...but not quite like this.

Katie's Litter Box Shadow

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, are you done yet?

KATIE:  A little privacy, please.

WAFFLES:  It's not like I've never seen you go before, Boss.

KATIE:  I KNOW. Every time I go. There you are.

WAFFLES:  No I'm not, Boss. I'm way over here.

KATIE:  And three, two, one...

WAFFLES:  Do, do-do...

Like Katie's Shadow
Wherever Katie is, Waffles is close behind. Like a shadow, sometimes it seems he follows her every move. And the litter box is no exception.

To date, he's never joined her while she's taking care of business, but sometimes he gets awfully close. Once Katie makes her exit, that's his cue. Whether he needs to go or not, he'll hop right in for the big dig.

We're not sure if this is a territorial thing or just his usual curiosity.

Do any of your cats do this? Katie wants to know.

Hide-and-Foggy-Seek

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, what happened to all the sun puddles?

KATIE:  They're hiding behind all the fog, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Why are they hiding, Boss? Are they scared to come out?

Or maybe it's a game! You know, like hide n seek. Maybe WE should play hide n seek!

WAFFLES:  Ok, I'm ready, Boss. Come out, come out wherever you are! You're TOTALLY not going to find me!

KATIE: You're TOTALLY right, Waffles.

Fogged In
We spend the whole weekend completely fogged in. The fog brought some badly needed moisture with it though, so our garden and trees are very happy. It was perfect napping and TV viewing weather. We can neither confirm or deny that Glogirly binged on both.

As much as we love the blue skies, sunshine, and mountain views, there's something really magical about the misty fog.  Here's a quick video of our misty view.

That's One HUGE Litter Box - Cats & Gardening

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, did you see? Glogirly is playing in her litter box. And it's HUGE!

KATIE:  That's not a litter box, Waffles. She's working on the perennial garden in front of the house.

WAFFLES:  I don't know, Boss. That's a LOT of dirt. And she's digging around in it like she has to go or something.

KATIE: Seriously, Waffles. I really doubt Glogirly is going to use her flower bed as a, well... you know.

WAFFLES:  She's squatting, Boss! She's squatting!

KATIE:  Pretty sure she's just pulling weeds, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Now she's covering something up!

WAFFLES:  This gardening stuff looks pretty fishy if you ask me.

KATIE:  I guess it's a good thing I didn't ask you.

Digging Up Some Dirt
We're pretty sure the spring snowstorms are behind us so Glogirly spent the day cleaning up her perennial garden by getting rid of the old mulch and dead leaves to make room for the fresh new growth. She just planted the garden last summer, so this is the first year for the plants to come back. For the most part, everything is looking good. Just a few smaller flowering plants look like they may have not made it.

All that digging around, right in front of the kitchen and dining room windows, had Waffles a little concerned though!

It's still a little early up at 8,000 feet for things to be in full bloom. Once things start looking pretty-pretty we'll be sure to share some photos.

A Foggy Feline Friendship

WAFFLES:  Hey, BOSS!

KATIE:  Busy, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Can you see anything out the window yet? Or is it still froggy?

KATIE:  You mean, foggy? Why don't you get up and see for yourself?

WAFFLES:  But you're already up there. Can you see anything? Like any frogs?

KATIE:  Nope. Not a thing. No frogs.

WAFFLES:  Are your eyes even OPEN?

KATIE:  They are now. So if I tell you there are frogs, will you leave me be?

WAFFLES:  How many frogs?

A Very Foggy Weekend
We're learning that mountain weather is very unpredictable and always changing. One minute it's blue skies and sunshine, the next there's a snowstorm.

This past weekend we were completely fogged in for over 48 hours. We couldn't even see our driveway. It was a perfect time to curl up with a soft blanket and take a nap. We're not sure who jumped up onto the chair by the bedroom window first, but when Glogirly walked in to get her blanket so she could stay warm while watching her stories on Hulu, she discovered it was already occupied.

And you know what they say about possession being 9/10 of the law. Well in this case, it WAS the law.

Oh, and to be clear. There were never any frogs. Sorry, Waffles.

Does our Mom Have Fur? Katie & Waffles' Mother's Day Conversation

KATIE:  Did you do something nice for Glogirly on Mother's Day, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  Glogirly is our mom? Because you know, she doesn't have fur or whiskers and her ears aren't pointy either. She's not even, you know... a cat.

KATIE:  Waffles, mothers come in all shapes and sizes. Some have fur, some don't. You and I, we have a lot in common with Glogirly when it comes to moms.

WAFFLES:  Did Glogirly's mom have fur too???

KATIE:  No, silly. That's not what I meant. You and I both had kitty moms. That's how we were born. Our kitty moms were there when we took our first breath and before our eyes were even open.

Then, when we were a few weeks old, we were adopted.

WAFFLES:  Adopted?

KATIE:  That means Glogirly and Gloman chose us. To love with all their hearts, forever.

When Glogirly was really little, just a baby, she was adopted too. Her mom and dad chose her.

WAFFLES:  To love with all their hearts? Forever?

KATIE:  Now you're getting it, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  So since she was adopted too, did she also have a kitty mom?

KATIE:  Sort of. There was a brave young woman who knew she couldn't take care of Glogirly. Oh, she wanted to, she really did. She held her and looked into her eyes only once. And it was with the greatest of love that she gave Glogirly up so that a family could adopt her and take care of her forever.

WAFFLES:  So Glogirly had TWO moms that really loved her, just like us! And she's going to love us forever, right?

KATIE:  Forever and ever, Waffles.

Another Mother
Many of our long-time friends and readers have read Glogirly's memoir, Another Mother. It's the true story of how she found and met her birth family. A few years ago, we took a break from our blog and published a chapter every few days. It's still in blog-form, but is on Glogirly's bucket list as a story she hopes to turn into a book.

Since we have some new readers, and because it's just a story we love so much, we decided to share it again. Some of you have asked about the photo on the cover. It really is Glogirly's birthmother as a young girl.

If you have some quiet time this week, we invite you to find a comfy chair, with at least one cat, and curl up with a story of discovery and love we hope will touch your heart.

Happy Belated Mother's Day
We're dedicating today's post to mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, teachers, friends... to all the people who have inspired us to be true to ourselves, dream big and who've loved us unconditionally.

Sun Puddle Negotiations

KATIE:  Nothing like basking in the sunshine on my favorite dining room chair.

WAFFLES:  That's a really nice sun puddle, Boss.

KATIE:  Waffles, haven't we been through this before? Like, just two days ago on our blog?

WAFFLES:  That was the red chair, Boss. Not the sun puddle.

KATIE:  Same principle.

WAFFLES:  Same who?

KATIE:  You're blocking my sun, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Son? What son? Is there something you're not telling me, Boss?

KATIE:  No, Waffles. I'm telling you to stop blocking my sun.

WAFFLES:  What sun?

KATIE:  Waffles, you STOLE my sun!

WAFFLES:  You only told me not to block it. You never said anything about stealing it.

About Today's Photos
It seems like just yesterday, or rather Wednesday, we were talking about how Waffles is a 'grass is always greener...' kind of cat. Apparently, that applies to more than just comfy chairs and pillows. He's expanded his territory to sunshine.
