Waffles' Great (and Magical) Pumpkin

WAFFLES:  Boss! The Great Pumpkin... it's really REAL!

KATIE:  Waffles, there's nothing great about that. It's a plastic pumpkin.

WAFFLES:  It's HUGE, Boss. 

WAFFLES:  And magical.

KATIE:  Well if it can make you disappear, it must have some kind of magic powers.

KATIE:  Waffles? 

KATIE:  Waffles? Where'd you go? Waffles?

KATIE:  Well who'd have ever thought that Halloween would be my new favorite holiday?

When Glogirly came home with the big plastic pumpkin, it took Waffles all of 10 seconds to dive inside and hunker down. Katie has never been much a fan of enclosed spaces, especially enclosed spaces inside giant orange plastic pumpkins. But when Waffles looked like he'd never come out, she became pretty curious. We're certain she had no plans on joining him, but more likely was peering over the edge hoping for a little of that Great Pumpkin disappearing magic. 

Eventually the treats came out and then it turned into a big free-for-all. 

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss!  I got a catnip Greenie! What'd you get? Did you get something good?

KATIE:  Freeze dried chicken. 

WAFFLES:  We should totally trade.

KATIE:  In your dreams, Waffles. That's like trading a Reeses for a measly circus peanut.

WAFFLES:

Cat and butter–

KATIE:  Waffles, you may like to fly high, but I'm keeping my paws firmly on the ground. Besides, the song is, "DOG and Butterfly."

WAFFLES:  Well that's not right. Everyone knows dogs don't fly.

KATIE:  Yeah well, cats don't either. 

WAFFLES:  That's not true, Boss. 

I believe I can fly. ♫♩

I believe I can touch the sky. ♫♩

KATIE:  Waffles, enough with the ear worms already. 

WAFFLES:  I can fly from my cat tree to the way-up-high window! Want to see?

KATIE:  You mean the window above our drinking fountain? That didn't work out too well for you the other day.

WAFFLES:  Uh...

KATIE:  Yeah, I don't think you've got enough wind beneath those wings of yours.

WAFFLES:  But Boss, I thought you were the wind beneath my wings.

About Today's Photos

Yesterday the butterfly wings we've been anxious to model came out. Glogirly thought they they'd make the perfect Halloween costume because they can be not so easily attached to our favorite harnesses. So it's really like not wearing a costume at all, right?

TIP: Make sure the wings are attached BEFORE you put the harness on. 

Once we were over the hump of securing the wings to the back of the harness, Waffles didn't seem to mind them at all. Maybe it was the bag of treats Glogirly had clenched in her hand, or maybe it was the bug staring at him through the window– he forgot all about his wings. (That first photo of Waffles shows him chattering at his new bug friend.)

Katie? Well she's always been more of a ground dweller than a tree dweller. And it became pretty clear she's not a fan of the wings. Just like real butterflies, so beautiful for those fleeting seconds you can see and enjoy them, they lasted about 60 fleeting seconds on Katie.

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! How do you like my new chicken hat? 

KATIE:  Waffles, that's a pirate's hat.

WAFFLES:  I didn't know pirates ate chicken. No wonder they're so awesome.

KATIE:  Waffles, that's not a chicken on your hat. It's a parrot. And he's not your lunch.

WAFFLES:  Is he my dinner?

KATIE:  You can't eat a parrot, Waffles. He's supposed to be your friend.

WAFFLES:  Oh, so we can hang out and talk about girls and music and stuff.

KATIE:  Oh no–

About Today's Photos
A few weeks ago we received an email from a PR person with Martha Stewart Pets. She offered to send Waffles a Halloween costume for him to try on. When the package arrived, it was pretty clear it was not designed with cats in mind. Waffles is an adventurous feline when it comes to fashion. But even he has to draw the line at a full bodysuit.

Yesterday we attempted to make a little joke by publishing a "404" post. If you've ever clicked to a website and gotten a 404 error message, you probably know what we're talking about. It means that the page you were looking for is no longer there. In other words, if it's not a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, Katie & Waffles aren't really here. Ok, so they were here. But we were just pretending.

Rumor has it, we'll be pretending again tomorrow with another reminder about our new posting schedule. So when you get your morning email from us, just remember we're here, but not really here. Really.

Waffles' First Halloween & First Dress #ThrowbackThursday

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, can I borrow your hat?

KATIE:  You can HAVE this ridiculous hat. 

WAFFLES:  Cool! It matches my dress. 

KATIE:  You do realize that dresses are typically for girls don't you? And by girls, I mean the two-legged kind. No self-respecting cat would be seen in satin, not to mention a tulle skirt. 

WAFFLES:  Tool skirt? You mean like for my tools and stuff? 

KATIE:  *sigh*

WAFFLES:  I bet the ladies really like a mancat who knows where to put his tools.

KATIE:  Waffles, I'm not going to touch that one. This is supposed to be a G-rated blog.

October, 2013. Waffles' first Halloween and his first dress. Apparently the warlock costumes were sold out at PetSmart. No worries though. Ever since he was just a few months old, Waffles has been very comfortable embracing his feminine side. Over two years later, he's still trying to get Katie to embrace his feminine side. Ok, he just wants her to embrace any of his sides.

We were all just playing around with costumes on a Saturday afternoon in October. Katie and Waffles are both very good sports when it comes to wearing their harnesses. So occasionally we try out a costume as long as it's styled like a harness. But we've since hung up our hats. Both Katie and Waffles have decided that cats in hats belong in Dr. Seuss books, not here in the Townhouse.

The Gloman Chronicles: Day 1 Halloween

Dear Glogirly,

Katie here. You left this morning for the airport. Off to the Cat Writers' Association Conference. All that packing yesterday, what with the shoes and the underwear ...but you forgot something. Or rather someone. 

Only an hour since you left and Waffles has already stolen my food 4 times. He claims to be tricking and treating. Obviously he's taken the whole Halloween thing WAY too far. 

Gloman isn't due home until dinnertime. Things may be touch and go. I hope I don't starve. 

FYI...I'm going to be monitoring Waffles' daily activities and noting all infractions. I will keep you apprised of the situation here in the Townhouse.

Waiting On The Great Pumpkin

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! I hear something. Do you think it could be...the Great Pumpkin???

KATIE:  Waffles, I'm pretty sure that's just the vase you knocked over. Again. Besides, it's not even Halloween yet.

WAFFLES:  But I'm scared, Boss. Just how big IS the Great Pumpkin?

KATIE:  Let me get this straight. Last week you wanted to invite the flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz over to play, but now you're scared of a little pumpkin???

WAFFLES:  Um, YEAH. It's a GREAT pumpkin. It's big and orange and scary.  

KATIE:  Big, orange, scary. Ok. Do you not see the irony in this?

WAFFLES:  And what if the Great Pumpkin steals my cool lounger? The one the nice peaches gave me. I mean it IS orange and all. What if the Great Pumpkin sees it and thinks it would look nice in his Great Pumpkin house???

KATIE:  Ok, let me get THIS straight now. You're scared of a pumpkin. A pumpkin that steals kitty loungers. A pumpkin that lives in a pumpkin house. AND you're accepting gifts from peaches. Waffles, I think you're a little fruity.
