Searching For A Girl - Prologue

Hi everyone, Katie here.

I hope you enjoy the first segment of Another Mother. Remember, I've checked my sarcasm and catnip the door. Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'm still the same sharp-tongued kitty you love to hate. But this story is for my girl. Be forewarned, It's a long one. MIght even take a few days to tell. But I don't want to leave anything out.

...now you see who I get my wordiness from.

Glogirly has an old newspaper clipping she keeps in safe and secret place. It's worn and yellowed, almost 30 years old. She rarely looked at Dear Abby back when people actually had newspapers delivered to their doors. But one day she did. And this is what she found:

Abigail

DEAR ABBY: I am writing not to tell my story, but to share this beautiful poem. If you consider it worth printing, it may inspire others. Thank you.

DEAR ANONYMOUS: I do.

LEGACY OF AN ADOPTED CHILD
Once there were two women
Who never knew each other.
One you do not remember
The other you call mother.
Two different lives
Shaped to make yours one.
One became your guiding star
The other became your sun.
The first gave you life
And the second taught you to live in it.
The first gave you a need for love
And the second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality
the other gave you a name.
One gave you the seed of talent
The other gave you an aim.
One gave you emotions
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile
The other dried your tears.
One gave you up -
It was all that she could do.
The other prayed for a child
And God let her straight to you.
And now you ask me
Through your tears
The age-old questions
Through the years:
Heredity or environment -
Which are you the product of?
Neither, my darling - neither.
Just two different kinds of love.
- AUTHOR UNKNOWN

Over two decades after Glogirly cut this out of the newspaper and tucked it away, she still found herself thinking of it again and again.
