WAFFLES: Uh, Boss? I think we've got some new neighbors.
KATIE: What do you mean? I don't see any new neighbors.
WAFFLES: I think you better come over here, Boss. They look kind of like Glogirly's teddy bear, except bigger. WAY bigger.
The Three Bears
The internet exploded when we posted these photos late Friday evening. Glogirly was minding her own business, Netflixing on the living room sofa, when she heard Waffles chattering over by the kitchen window. She looked over her shoulder, ready to tell him to stop opening up the cupboards again, when she saw THREE bears RIGHT outside the dining room window. And when we say right outside the window, we mean it. They were less than 6 feet from the glass.
A momma black bear and her two cubs were chomping away on what used to be bountiful, wild raspberry bushes. One of the cubs was attempting to swing from the empty hummingbird feeder.
Always ready for Katie and Waffles to do something cute, Glogirly had her camera within reach and ready. In between hyperventilating, and numerous "OMGs," she managed to snap off a few photos. Don't worry, they were all taken from the safety of the dining room and kitchen windows.
It was quite a sight! None of us have ever seen anything like this before. After they left, everyone was a little unnerved. There was lots of pacing and looking out the windows.
Later in the evening, in an unprecedented display of, well... sheer madness– Katie and Waffles both slept right by Glogirly's side ALL night.
How did the bears like the deer proof landscaping by the way? They look like they are enjoying it.....heh Life in the wilderness

O-M-C! My human says she is NEVER moving out of the big city... except maybe to another big city! Preferably to a high rise.
ReplyDeleteWow! Too cool!!! Hopefully the raspberry bushes will grow back...... and that’s one way to get both Katie and Waffles to sleep with you .....
ReplyDeleteTotally amazing. Did Waffles and Katie watch all the time? Gosh you can see the unbelievable look on Waffles face. To be that close an amazing experience for everyone.xπ»πΎπΎπΎπΎπΎππΌ
ReplyDeleteAM I surprised at the extent cordiale - NO WAY sunbeam THOSE were BIG BEARS!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCOOL! And OMG! Wish I'd been there. I used to volunteer at a small zoo that had three black bears, and they were very interesting creatures. Two of them enjoyed being sprayed with the hose on hot days in the summer, and I have hilarious memories of that.
ReplyDeleteYou got some great photos.

Waffles has so much to talk about in his mountain home!!! What an exciting time for all of you. You got some really great shots! Gloman is missing out on all the fun. :)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Amazing pictures. Maybe you need to wear bear bells when outside!
ReplyDeleteThat is a BIG mama bear!! Very nice photos. I can see why the kitties slept right next to you all night :)
ReplyDeleteThose were really close. How fun! Yeah, we are weird. A woman we worked with when we worked in North Bend, WA had a baby bear on their deck. They kept their trash up there because it was a second floor deck, but Mama bear boosted baby bear up there and had him going through it so he could toss stuff down her to... Smart critters...
ReplyDelete6 feet??? Glogirly may want to look into reinforced glass. WOW!
ReplyDeleteoh my god! It must have been thrilling and terrifying in equal measure! What did Gloman say!? Does this mean it will be dangerous for you to take walks outside?
ReplyDeleteI bet that Momma Bear is a pawfessional model. She's gor-jus! What a wonderpurr experience for you all.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week...

Wow! Too close an encounter for me.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd replace the raspberry bushes...bears love berries.
Wow! We get some wildlife around here but nothing like that! Amazing! We hope they come visit again.
ReplyDeleteOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD!!! I would have DIED!!! OMG!! They were waaaaaaaaaay too close!!!! OMG! As long as they don't come in looking for chairs, beds and porridge you should be fine!!! xoxoxo catchatwithcarenandcody
ReplyDeleteOMC! What a view to look out at. I do hope you keep any trash in a secure place. They saved you having to do a winter trip on the razzberry canes.
ReplyDeleteOh.My.Stars! Holy cow, look at those bears! We don't know what we would have done.
ReplyDeleteWow! We would have been terrified....and mom bean would have lost her...well, you know.
ReplyDeleteYikes, we're glad you kitties stay safe inside.
:O! These are such amazing photos! How breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteCrazy! Bears are big, and they can eat people, let alone cats. I would have been quaking in my boots!
