What Kind of Car is Your Cat?

WAFFLES:  *daydreaming*

KATIE:  What...are you going to lay around, parked in that chair all day, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  NO. It's not like I'm lazy or anything.

KATIE:   No? Because I've walked by that red chair five times already and you've barely moved.

WAFFLES:  Fine. Is this better?

If Cats were Cars
Waffles is two-speed cat. He's either racing around at 100 cat miles per hour while yodeling at the top of his lungs, or he's practically comatose. There's just not much in-between. He's a little like a muscle car that needs a new muffler.

Katie, on the other hand, purrs like a well-tuned engine on a six-speed Porsche and is graceful at any speed and every turn.

Both are a fun ride!

Cats, Watermelons & the Not-So-Famous Harlem Globetrotter

When Glogirly came home from the grocery store with a watermelon today, she couldn't resist sharing one of her all-time favorite posts from 2016, featuring the lesser known Harlem Globetrotter–

WAFFLES:  *uuuummmph* Man, this thing is heavy. How do those Harlem Globetrotter guys do it?

KATIE:  Waffles, what on earth are you doing???

WAFFLES:  This isn't regulation size, Boss. It's too big. I don't think I can shoot hoops with it.

KATIE: Shoot hoops??? Seriously? Waffles, that's a watermelon. Not a basketball. Oh and... you're a CAT.

WAFFLES:  Wait! I've almost got it. Just have to dribble–

KATIE:  Waffles, the only thing you're capable of dribbling is food onto your chin.

WAFFLES:  He shoots! He scores!

WAFFLES:  And the crowd goes WILD! *AAAAAAAHHHH!*

WAFFLES:  Hey! Where'd the crowd go?

About Today's Photos
Today's pics are from Waffles' first watermelon encounter back when we lived at the Townhouse. Glogirly had just returned home from the market and her arms were so overloaded with grocery bags, she had to set the watermelon down on the floor before she could make it to the kitchen.

We'd heard that some cats like watermelon...but not quite like this.

Can Cats Eat Watermelon?
According to PetMD, cats can eat watermelon. But, and this is a big but... the seeds must be removed. They contain compounds that can be very harmful to cats. The rinds aren't really recommended either. It's important to remember that cats are obligate carnivores and therefore incapable of digesting some types of food, in particular, plant matter.

So a meal of watermelon is not a good idea. But a little bite should be just fine.

Cats & Ladders #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! How many cats does it take to change a light bulb?

KATIE:  I don't know, Waffles. One crazy enough to climb a ladder and one to call for help when you can't get down?

WAFFLES:  HA-HA, Boss. Very funny.

WAFFLES:  I don't need no stinkin' help getting down.

WAFFLES:  Uh, Boss?  BOSS?

WAFFLES:  BOSS!!!

About Today's Post
Today's #WafflesWednesday post is one of our favorites from 2015. Two years later and Waffles is still obsessed with ladders. But our ceilings are a LOT higher in Colorado.

WAFFLES:  Boss?

KATIE:  You're on your own, Waffles.

Chivalry & the Orange Mancat - Monday Flashback

WAFFLES:  Gee your fur smells terrific.

KATIE:  Personal space, Waffles. You're encroaching.

WAFFLES:  What do you use on it, Boss?

KATIE:  My tongue.

WAFFLES:  It's really soft too. You must condition.

KATIE:  Waffles, I'm kind of busy. What do you want?

WAFFLES:  I heard that girls like it when you say their fur smells.

KATIE:  You mean smells good. Not smells. There's a big difference.

WAFFLES:  And don't girls like to share their dinner with handsome orange mancats?

KATIE:  knew this had something to do with my food.

WAFFLES:  Just a little–

KATIE:  Mitts off, Waffles. Chivalry will get you nowhere.

WAFFLES:  Maybe Mr. Chivalry needs to stop and ask for directions.

About Today's Post
Today's post is a favorite of ours with some outtakes from a product review photoshoot we did. Some of our favorite photos happen by accident when we're trying to get something else. And when it comes to photographing product, specifically food, Waffles is the mancat king of outtakes. Or is that takeout?

Morning Meal Alert - And a BIG Thank You

KATIE:  Is she up?

WAFFLES:  What do you mean, up? Like up in the air? With the birds and stuff?

KATIE:  No, Waffles. It's 8:01 am. Is she out of BED yet?

WAFFLES:  Why didn't you just ask if she's out of bed yet?

KATIE:  I'm starving. Trying to conserve energy. Using fewer words. Not that you're helping. Do you hear something?

WAFFLES:  I don't know. Do you hear something?

KATIE:  That's it, Waffles. Go get her.

WAFFLES:  On it, Boss. Should I do the foot thing or the pillow thing?

KATIE:  Definitely pillow.

WAFFLES:  Maybe I should do the foot thing first, then the pillow thing. Ooooh! I know. Nightstand yodeling.

KATIE:  Whatever, Waffles. Just make it snappy.

WAFFLES:  How about I yodel and you snap?

BIG Smiles of Gratitude from the Birthday Girl
Glogirly's heart (and inbox) are overflowing. She was completely blown away with all of your sweet birthday wishes here and on social media. In fact, her Facebook account had so much activity, she got locked out of liking and loving comments for a whole three hours.

With Gloman in Minneapolis, Katie and Waffles took over and celebrated by taking birthday naps. Ok, so they would have taken naps anyway, but her birthday gave them a solid excuse for catching some extra afternoon ZZZs.

Gloman took care of his girl from afar though. There were captioned photos of Katie and Waffles in her inbox, a birthday song in her voice mail and a box of special goodies and cards that arrived in the big brown truck. Even the man in brown shorts knew it was her special day and gave her a happy birthday hug.

Jackpot!

WAFFLES:  Look Boss, I hit the jackpot!

KATIE:  What do you mean, YOU hit the jackpot?

WAFFLES:  It means I got all these toys, Boss. For free and stuff. Don't you know what a jackpot is?

KATIE: Yes, Waffles. I know what a jackpot is. My question isn't about whether or not it's a jackpot. My question is why do you think it's YOUR jackpot?

WAFFLES:  I don't know. I just saw them all sitting here. It's like they were calling my name.

KATIE:  Pretty sure that was Glogirly calling your name. Something about the all the kitchen cabinet doors being open again?

WAFFLES:  I liked it better when the jackpot was calling my name.

About Today's Photos
Thanks to one of Katie and Waffles very special friends, they really did hit the jackpot! A surprise package filled with tons and tons of fuzzy, sparkly and puffy balls arrived. Pink ones, orange ones, even rainbow balls!

Since sharing is something of a mystery concept to Waffles, there was plenty of spirited conversation and negotiation surrounding the big toy jackpot.

Eventually, Katie prevailed and got her pick of the litter. She's partial to the sparkles.

Calendar Confusion

KATIE:  What day is it, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  I don't know, Boss. Today?

KATIE:  Of course it's today. But what day is it?

WAFFLES:  I know, maybe the day before tomorrow? Or is it after yesterday?

KATIE:  You're scaring me, Waffles. Both you and Glogirly can't seem to figure out what day it is.

WAFFLES:  What, doesn't she know today is the day after...I mean before tomorrow too?

KATIE:  It's Friday, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  So if you already know what day it is, how come– wait, is this a test? Is this like one of those math problems with apples and oranges and a guy named John?

KATIE:  Yesterday was Thursday and we had a new blog post. But we only publish on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I think you and Glogirly clicked the publish button on the wrong day.

WAFFLES:  But I'm not allowed to push the buttons.

KATIE:  Funny, that never stopped you from pushing my buttons.

About Today's Conversation
For once, Waffles isn't to blame. Glogirly really did forget what day it was when she published today's blog post yesterday. It was about adopting a rescue pet and had kitten pictures of Katie and Waffles so she probably got all distracted and mushy so she clicked the publish button a day early.

Or it could be she's just getting... (gasp!) another year older next week. She's going to need to do some math to figure out which birthday this one is. Let's just hope it's not one of those apples, oranges, walk 3 miles one way and 7 the other with Jane and John kind of math problems.

The Far Reaching Impact of Adopting a Rescue Pet - Katie & Waffles Then and Now

With so much sadness, snarkiness and politics on social media, it's sometimes hard to find the silver lining. But yesterday a friend posted a challenge to Glogirly and a few other cat loving bloggers.

The challenge is quite simple really. Just post a picture of your happy pet. Something to spread a little smile. And to remind ourselves how truly transforming adopting a rescue animal can be.

They say that adopting a pet impacts two lives. The life of the animal and the life of the adopter.

But we believe it can mean so much more and reach farther than you'd ever expect.

Gloman adopted Katie in September of 2005 as an anniversary gift for Glogirly. It had been many years since Glogirly had a cat and to say it was love at first sight is an understatement.

It was Katie's voice Glogirly heard when she wrote her first blog post ten years ago. Katie was the inspiration behind it all. If Gloman hadn't come home with a tiny bundle of black & white fur all those years ago... well, we just can't imagine. We'd have not met all of you, our dear friends and readers. We'd have not met hundreds of wonderful pet bloggers from all corners of the world. We'd have not been able to donate thousands of dollars in prizes, supplies and cash to help no-kill cat shelters. Even Glogirly's design business began right here on the blog.

And it all began with a tuxedo kitten named Katie.

Our favorite mischief maker came to be as a result of our blog too.

"Waffles" began as a character on the blog. A made-up sidekick for Katie. He was just a cute stock photo Glogirly started Photoshopping into graphics for the blog. She made up his goofy personality, his innocent and curious voice, and in a very short time found herself in love.

On a late Saturday night in November of 2012, she opened up her laptop and went to Petfinder.com. She entered our zip code, clicked search and there he was. The cutest orange kitten she could imagine. She drove to the Humane Society in Buffalo, MN the next morning and brought him home. She never imagined that his personality would be EXACTLY how she's written him.

Our family just wouldn't be complete without Katie, Waffles and all of our beautiful friends and readers. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
