Love Your Vet #Cat2VetDay

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! YESTERDAY was Take Your Cat to the Vet Day. We missed it!

KATIE:  Oh darn.

WAFFLES:  Should we go today instead?

KATIE:  Waffles, we were just there. Let's not wear out our welcome.

WAFFLES:  But it was Take Your Cat to the Vet Day, Boss. And we missed it. We have to go.

KATIE:  Waffles, what matters is that we remind everyone how important it is to see their vet regularly.

WAFFLES:  Why? Is it so the vets don't get lonely and stuff and miss us?

KATIE:  Waffles, you do know that Dr. Karlin's world doesn't revolve around you, right?

WAFFLES:  Yeah, but every time I see her she makes me feel like it does.

Don't let your vet miss you.
Schedule a wellness check today.
It's true. We love our vet. In fact at one point, Waffles wanted to marry Dr. Karlin. His hopes were dashed though when he realized that not only was she taken, she was seeing untold numbers of other cats. Dogs too. But that hasn't stopped him from flirting. Or amassing more girlfriends than he can count.

In all seriousness though, we're very passionate about the importance of regular veterinary visits. Living healthy, happy and long lives with our forever families is what it's all about.

Our own vet and the dedicated staff at Westgate Pet Clinic in Minneapolis are like family to us. They take the time to get to know us. They're incredibly gentle and caring each time we visit. They spend time talking to Glogirly, answering her questions and never, ever seem to be rushed. Even when the waiting area is chocked full. When there's a health concern or problem addressed, we always get a call back after a visit to check in on how things are going. And if we ever have a question, any question at all, they're happy to take our call. Our own vet has called us on many occasions. Like we said, we love her.

Click here to learn about the five reasons regular veterinary visits are so important to the health and well being of our furry family members.

Do you love your vet?
If you're not happy with your vet, it's time to shop around. We have a feeling there are lots of Dr. Karlin's out there. You just have to be willing to look for them.

WAFFLES:  My vet loves me SO much, I got to star in a Westgate Pet Clinic VIDEO!!!

KATIE:  Waffles, you were only in the video for like 4 seconds.

WAFFLES:  Uh uuuh! It was at least FIVE.

(You can see Waffles at the 33 second mark)

It's a Party at the Vet

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, are you getting ready for the party at the Vet?

KATIE:  It's hardly going to be a party.

WAFFLES:  I think you should ride in the white Sleepypod.

KATIE:  I think YOU should ride in the white Sleepypod.

WAFFLES:  Dr. Karlin says I look really handsome in the blue Sleepypod.

KATIE:  *rolls eyes* And we all know it's about being handsome at the vet.

Katie & Her Girlish Kitty Figure

Hi everyone, Katie here.

A few of my fluffier friends have asked how I was able to trim down to my original girlish figure after having spent almost four years on the high end of the scale.

Of course it doesn't hurt the whole diet thing to have an obnoxious, orange food thief hovering over your shoulder. And then there's the daily high speed chase scenes up and down two flights of steps.

But the real secret lies in the great relationship we have with my vet. Please note that I am NOT an expert nutritionist, NOT a health care professional, certainly NOT a veterinarian... and I don't play one on TV either.

I'm just a 9 pound, 8 ounce cat doing the best I can.

Know Your Vet. Love Your Vet.
We're very fortunate to have an awesome vet. She takes the time to get to know us and is always there to answer our questions and provide some of the latest and greatest info. She's particularly passionate about nutrition. Though it's never about what food is lining the shelves of the clinic, rather what's the absolute best choice for ME. We love that.

She helped find a food that met the criteria she felt was most important for me-
♥︎ Very high protein (preferably poultry, since so many cats are allergic to fish)
♥︎ Grain free
♥︎ Low Carb
♥︎ And this is a biggee - the right amount of calories based on my current and ideal weight.

We learned that calorie counts for different foods, even different flavors of the same brand, can vary SO much. Just like humans, portion control is a make or break. I keep telling Glogirly that rule applies to jelly beans & potato chips too.

Kicked the Kibble Train
When my vet used those two dreaded words, "overweight" and "obese," (GASP!) one of the first things Glogirly did was eliminate kibble as a primary menu item.

I still get just a tiny spoon (believe me, it's VERY tiny) in the wee hours of the morning when Gloman gets up. It's our special treat time and ties me over until breakfast.

We call it Kitty-Crack-Time. It's one of my favorite times of the day with Gloman.

Katie's Menu Du Jour
I get about 180 calories a day. In addition to my Kitty-Crack-Snack, I have 1/2 can of wet food for breakfast and the other 1/2 for dinner. Sometimes I get a special treat like a piece of freeze dried chicken or even salmon. Whenever we have a photo shoot in the Townhouse, I know there's something tasty in store. Our treats are always pure protein though.

Now some kitties swear by a raw diet, some even cook their own food. We may very well transition again to a new daily menu. We know it's a purrsonal choice though and we're not big on doling out advice.

But if we WERE to give a tiny tidbit of advice...we'd say to find a vet you love and trust. One that's truly interested in cultivating a relationship with you and your human. One that loves you as their own, despite the fact they might need to wear those big protective gloves.

Special thanks to our pawsome vet, Dr. Carolyn Karlin, and the entire Westgate Pet Clinic staff. We ♥︎ you.

Waffles Wednesday: I'm Going to be a Movie Star!

Um hi everybuddy, Waffles here.

I'm a real live MOVIE STAR! Yesterday Glogirly and I starred in a MOVIE together!

Most actors would have been really scared on account of the movie was shot on location at my vet clinic. But I'm a really experienced actor and brave too. I did all my own stunts in Waffles & The Red Dot.

There were lots of people 'on-set.' There was the director guy, his name was Sam. He's the one that's supposed to yell 'ACTION' and tell me what to do. You can't really see him on account of he's hiding behind the one of the cameras. He had TWO cameras rolling the whole time. They weren't rolling on the floor though so I couldn't chase them.

The vet tech's name was Sarah. She was really nice and wanted to tickle me. At one time I had TWO doctors in the room! Dr. Hershey, you know like the candy bar. But she didn't have any candy. And Dr. Reed (above) who pretended to examine me. Don't worry she didn't pretend to take my temperature.

The purpose of the video is to help promote Westgate Pet Clinic and show how great their staff is and how friendly and smart their doctors are too. Dr. Chocolate, I mean Dr. Hershey called Glogirly and pacifically asked for ME! Everyone at Westgate thought I'de be a really great movie star.

Oh, there was a sound guy too. His name was Tom and he had a GIANT wand toy he called a microphone. It was HUGE. I told him it really needed some feathers and bells and stuff. But I don't think he liked that.

They even talked to Glogirly. They asked her some questions while she was holding me. She told them about my therapy cat work and what a good kitty I am.

The video won't be done until January, but don't worry! I'll let you see it when it releases. I wonder if I need to get a fancier harness for the red carpet?

Waffles Too Goes To The Vet, AGAIN

Hi everyone, Katie here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kittenhood is not all it's cracked up to be. Sure you get to eat as much as you want of the good stuff. The world, or at least the Townhouse, is your playground. And if you're really lucky, you've got a 7 year-old tuxedo cat to stalk and torment.

Alas, there's these little things (some are pretty big) called SHOTS. I'm not talking about tequila and lime wedges or those silly jello things your humans kicked back when they were younger.

VACCINATIONS. With NEEDLES.
Waffles Too has been to the Vet FIVE times since he showed up at the Townhouse.
1. Kitten well-check
2. Kitten cold and bite wound abscess. (NO I didn't do it...he came that way.)
3. Vaccination
4. Another Vaccination
5. The Big-Boy Vaccinations (rabies and distemper)

If these paws are any indication of what's to come...he's going to be HUGE.

NOTE: I probably don't need to mention (but I will) that each visit required the ceremonious taking of the temperature.

You'd think this would bring me some sort of "get-even" pleasure. Yet, the orange beast actually likes these Vet visits. Purrs when that thermometer...well, you get the idea.

La de da...just another Vet visit. Sure, go ahead poke me, prod me. I don't mind.

Everyone knows that MY vet file has been "flagged." Extra precautions (armpit length suede gloves) are necessary when welcoming ME into the office. It's a reputation I'm quite proud of.

Waffles Too has no flags. The Vet Techs see his name on their roster and they come skipping out from the back squeeing, "Waffles!  Waffles!  Waffles is here!!!" Something about him being their favorite kitten. Such public display of affection... it's ridiculous really.

Glogirly and Waffles Too would like to thank the great (according to them) staff at Westgate Pet Clinic in Edina, Minnesota. Frankly I don't see the attaction...but they love everyone there.

Don't forget to vote for Waffles Too in the 1-800-PetMeds Cat Naps & Dog Dreams Competition!!!  The orange boy is in 2nd place behind a DOG. Every share and every tweet gets him a vote. You can only share once, but you can tweet to your heart's content and each tweet generates a vote! Just click here:
