Introducing the Googie Cat Bed

We first saw this cool bed at BlogPaws in the swanky Hauspanther Cat Lounge. Of course Glogirly is a sucker for anything that looks cool and modern so she was instantly drawn to it. The design is inspired by the Googie style of architecture. Think 1950's coffee shop with those curvy, amoeba-shaped signs and the hip boomerang patterns. Think George Jetson. 

More than Just Hip & Cool

The Googie Cat Bed is much more than a cool looking place to hang out. It's a finely crafted piece of furniture. Incredibly solid construction, NO assembly required by the way, it's made to stand the test of time. The frame is thick and smoothly sanded plywood covered with funky formica. The two ledges are wrapped in a tightly woven carpeting made from 100% post consumer recycled bottles. Padded on the inside, it's cushy comfy and also very roomy. Strongly reinforced, even the plumpest fluffiest of cats can curl up with ease. It comes in three color/pattern combinations.

Shelter Cats WIN & Waffles Needs a Math Lesson

KATIE:  Ok, Waffles... we need to figure out the results of our Happy Birthday Comment-A-Thon so that we know how many green papers to give to the shelter cats at Feline Rescue. I've got all the math calculations laid out here. I just want to check my work. Do you have the calculator ready?

WAFFLES:  Yeah, Boss. Ready.

KATIE:  Good. Now don't screw this up. It's important.

WAFFLES:  Important, Boss. Got it. Important.

KATIE:  So if  x + y = z,  and  1 + 2 = 3,

WAFFLES:  Boss, I got this.

KATIE:  I don't know, Waffles.... are you sure???  I don't want any fuzzy math.

WAFFLES:  I GOT this, Boss!

KATIE:  Okay, if you say so.

WAFFLES:  500 CHICKENS!  

KATIE:  Not CHICKENS, Waffles! DOLLARS!  

WAFFLES:  500 dollars???

Santa Paws Drive: Making a Difference in the Lives of Shelter Pets

As much as I complain about Waffles and how he's always stealing my food, stealing my toys, and stealing my thunder ... I'm reminded everyday of how fortunate we are. We have more toys than we can possibly play with, healthy food and yummy treats.

Waffles and I may not share the same pillow at night, but we share something much more important. We share the best and most loving forever home we could ever dream of.

But there are SO many kitties that don't have what we have. Shelter kitties waiting for forever families will wake up on Christmas morning without a new toy or a special treat.

Our friend Dorian Wagner of Your Daily Cute founded Santa Paws Drive to bring holiday cheer to shelter animals around the world.

Now in it's fifth year, Santa Paws Drive is the first-ever online Chrisrmas toy drive dedicated to pets. Dorian was inspired by "Toys 4 Tots" and other similar programs and wanted to do the same for animals. She wanted to make it as simple as possible for everyone to be able to make a difference for shelter animals around the world.

In the past three years, Santa Paws Drive has raised approximately $45,000 in toys, treats and donations for 24 shelters worldwide. Focusing on smaller groups who don't otherwise have much opportunity for funding, Santa Paws Drive carefully choose only non-profit, no-kill shelters who rely solely on donations to survive.

10,000 Meals For Minnesota's Feline Rescue, Inc!!!

We're about to make your Monday SO much better than you ever expected it would be.  If you're a regular reader here, you know we sometimes get down on our hands and paws to ask for your votes. There's photo contests, blog contests, video contests and more. We received some amazing news this weekend.

Our video, *Waffles & The Red Dot* won the grand prize in Pet360's Tricks for Treats Contest. Halo Pets is the sponsor and... ok Waffles, I think you've earned this one. Take it away–

WAFFLES:  Thanx, Boss! Um, the Freekibble.com and Halo people are donating 10,000 meals to Minnesota's Feline Rescue, Inc. I'm not sure how many that is on account of I've never seen that many zeros before. 

The Boss says that we owe it all to YOU, our supercalafragalisticexpialodoshus friends! I don't know what THAT means either, but the Boss says it's pretty awesome.

KATIE:  Glogirly is hoping to be at the shelter when the food arrives to take some photos and pet some kitties. We'll be sure to share all the excitement with you.

This is the third time we've been personally involved with a donation like this from Halo. The shelter is SO excited to receive this food, we decided to find out a little bit more about Halo and their behind-the-scenes giving and philanthropy.

KATIE:  I don't know, Waffles. I better do the talking. 

Halo is the official sponsor of Freekibble which donates 1.5 MILLION meals per year to shelter pets. And did you know that Freekibble was founded by an 11-year-old girl? Her name is Mimi Ausland. Freekibble.com is a pet-related trivia site where more than 125,000 daily visitors come to answer questions. For every question answered, Freekibble donates 10 pieces of kibble to shelter pets. All of this adds up to more than 1.5 million meals.

The Halo Pet Foundation is committed to giving at least 5 times the national corporate average, and in fact has exceeded the national average by a factor of more than 10!

WAFFLES:  Halo is getting ready for a big road trip too! It's their 3rd Annual Kibble Drop. In early December, they'll be visiting 8 cities across the US and delivering 600,000 meals to shelter pets.

Glogirly Visits The Kitties Of Feline Rescue, Inc

We want to introduce you to some VERY special kitties today.

Glogirly and her friend Angie Bailey (of the hilarious blog, Catladyland) recently visited the kitties of Feline Rescue Inc. in Saint Paul, Minnesota to share some exciting news. When we both were presented with BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards in May, we received something MUCH better than trophies or treats. We each received 400 pounds of Petcurean cat food to donate to the rescue shelter of our choice.

Angie's hoping to be invited inside orange boy Black Foot's hidey hole. Since we visited he's been adopted!

Angie and Glogirly wanted to do something EXTRA special for one of their favorite hometown shelters. So they decided to combine their donations and give Feline Rescue 800 pounds of food. I did the math and that's about as much food as both Waffles and I would eat in TEN years! ...and we all know what a food hog Waffles is. 

Feline Rescue is one of the little guys making a BIG difference in the lives of homeless cats. They're an ALL-volunteer, NO-kill cat rescue organization with shelter, foster and outreach programs.

Their shelter facility can house up to 70 cats. They have special rooms for FEL+ and FIV+ cats, quiet spots, even dedicated areas that provide privacy for cats that are very scared and are in need of socialization rehabilitation. Glogirly saw first hand how much time and care they take to help these cats feel comfortable and safe. They work one-on-one with them until they are ready for adoption.

All of the cats in the shelter facility are adults. A network of foster homes provide care for the kittens until they are adopted into forever homes.

In addition to safe shelter, Feline Rescue also provides rescue and relief to the homeless and endangered cats in our community through programs that offer foster care, social and medical rehabilitation, feral and stray management, spay/neuter subsidy and community education.
