WAFFLES: Something smells funny, Boss. And not ha-ha funny.
KATIE: What, did you sleep right through the doorbell?
WAFFLES: What doorbell?
KATIE: You know. The bell. On the outside of the door. The one people ring when they want to come inside.
WAFFLES: So that's what the ding-dong sound means. I thought it meant the man in brown shorts brought us a new box.
KATIE: We have houseguests, Waffles.
WAFFLES: What? No one told me.
KATIE: I'm telling you now.
Thanksgiving is just a few days away. That means a revolving door of people invading our space, making lots of noise, and smelling up the place with their stuff for the next few weeks. We won't be in the clear until 2019.
WAFFLES: 2019??? That's like NEXT YEAR!
Now that Halloween is in our rearview mirror and we've got a couple of snowstorms under our belt, Glogirly is already untangling holiday lights and sorting ornaments. Usually, we wait until Thanksgiving weekend, but she wants to be ready for guests early. Ok, truth be told, she's just super excited for Christmas and has a thing for twinkle lights. And when you have a red kitchen, well...the holiday spirit is there all year long.
Getting ready for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukah means getting ready for guests too. And a big part of that for us is FELIWAY®.
We like to greet our overnight visitors with smiles, meows, and a fresh bottle of FELIWAY® CLASSIC Spray. A couple of spritzes on their luggage and boots helps to keep Katie and Waffles feeling comfortable and secure.
Ok, so Waffles typically warms up to new guests VERY quickly.
But for Katie, accepting new people takes time.
Another important item in our houseguest arsenal is the FELIWAY® CLASSIC Diffuser. We keep a couple plugged in when we've got visitors. Particularly in areas where people and cats spend the most time. (Like Waffles' favorite room - the kitchen)

How Does It Work?
Cats communicate through natural messages released in the air called pheromones. These pheromones give them a sense of safety and belonging.
FELIWAY® mimics naturally occurring feline pheromones, or "messages."
It's important to understand the difference between these feline "messages" as well as the difference between the FELIWAY® CLASSIC Diffuser and MultiCat Diffuser in order to select the best formula for your needs. We use both depending on the situation.
Happy Messages - For Stress Due to Houseguests and Visitors
You've probably seen your cat rub their face against corners, furniture and even you. As they mark their territory, they leave an odorless message called a Feline Facial Pheromone. These happy messages provide comfort and security. The arrival of houseguests can certainly upset this apple cart. The FELIWAY® CLASSIC Diffuser and the FELIWAY® CLASSIC Spray deliver these happy messages, helping cats to feel more comfortable and secure when newcomers are in the house.
Harmony Messages - For Cat-to-Cat Animosity and Stress
Momma cats communicate with their kittens through natural messages released into the air. These Cat Appeasing Pheromones help to maintain harmony and social bonds between cats of all ages. The FELIWAY® MultiCat Diffuser helps to reduce conflict between cats living together by creating "harmony messages." It may help decrease fighting, chasing, blocking, and even staring, which for us is the perfect storm of displacement aggression behaviors.
How to Properly Use the Diffuser Plug-In
- Plug into an outlet in the room where the cats spend the most of their time. We like to position a second in our guest room as well.
- We've found it takes about 24 hours to kick in.
- Leave plugged in continuously.
- One vial will last approximately 30 days. The diffuser should be replaced about every 6 months.

My kitties will go into the bedroom to feel safe and secure. They are not use to a house full of people.Multi Cat formula is the one for me.
ReplyDeleteWe actually have more issues with houseguests the rest of the year. For instance, my youngest daughter came up last year to get away from a hurricane, bringing with her one dog and two cats. My dogs were okay with the guests, but my cats not so much. Then, earlier this year my middle daughter's boyfriend moved to an apartment complex close to us (my daughter was to move in, too). He had taken a job in Chicago so he moved from his place further east to our area. Less than two weeks after moving in, he and his two cats came to stay with us because he discovered the apartment had bedbugs. We've had other visitors stay with us on occasion and while the dogs love the company, the cats aren't happy about the change in their routine. I've used a calming spray for my dogs when it thunders or there are fireworks. I am still working on finding the best solution for my cats.
ReplyDeleteNo one coming here for the holly-daze. I won't have my space invaded.
ReplyDeleteTwo of my three cats are scared of visitors that they don't know and hide until they leave.
ReplyDeleteMy cats aren't fond of guests. They hide and peek out while deciding whether they will interact with them. Most times it takes a couple of days before they are ready to be 'seen'
ReplyDeleteI don't have guests over for the holidays since I live in a small apartment; I go elsewhere. However, my cat goes with me when I fly out-of-state for 2-3 weeks to visit family (I work virtually so I can travel for longer periods of time.) She gets freaked out by flying and I use the Feliway calming spray to try to alleviate some of her anxiety.
ReplyDeleteMy cat is initially scared of guests but gradually warms up to them over a couple of days.
