No Scent, No Dust, No Dyes...No KIDDING! TidyCats® Free & Clean™ Unscented Litter

This post is sponsored by TidyCats®

WAFFLES:  Gee, Boss. You're litter smells terrifi– Wait, your litter smells like...I'm not sure what your litter smells like.

WAFFLES:  OMG! My nose is broken! I can't smell anything!

KATIE:  That's the point, Waffles. Our new litter is UNscented.

WAFFLES:  And it doesn't smell either!

KATIE:  Nothing gets past you, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  So does that mean my you-know-what won't smell like you-know-what?

KATIE:  You know what? I'm not sticking around to find out.

Free & Clean™ Unscented, YAY!!!
We've featured TidyCats® on our blog many times over the past few years. Though we've always been pleased with the performance of their various formulas, our #1 request has been that they develop a completely fragrance-free litter. It's been the #1 request from our friends and readers too.

When we heard about the new Free & Clean formula, we couldn't WAIT to give it a try. We've been using it for a couple of weeks now and are positively thrilled!

It truly smells like nothing. No scent whatsoever. It's free of any fragrances or dyes. For optimum odor absorption, it uses tiny bits of activated charcoal that are made from, wait for it...coconut shells! According to TidyCats, coconut shells provide a cleaner and stronger form of charcoal which means it won't leave any dust or black residue behind. We're not quite sure how they did it, but the part about no dust is absolutely TRUE!

No fragrances.
No dyes.
No dust.
No kidding!

Free & Clean Unscented is also available in a lightweight formula. We tried the classic. Our tubs that you see in the photos above were 20 pounds each. The same size tub in the lightweight formula weighs 8.5 pounds. As much as we want to love the convenience of lightweight litters, we've found the more classic formulas to perform better when it comes to tracking. Now we didn't try Free & Clean Unscented in the lightweight formula, so we can't say for sure how the tracking is. But the formula we did try has very little tracking. It's on par or even better than other clay litters we've used.

  1. It's so hard to find a cat litter that doesn't have a scent. I might try this.

  2. We use Tidy Cats in the Farm cats' 5 litter boxes. That's a lot of Tidy Cats

  3. We're trying this right now, as I write. In side by side brand new litter boxes I have the regular weight unscented Tidy Cats and the lightweight unscented Tidy Cats. They're each getting used, but the lightweight version seems to get the most use. So far, so good!

I only ever buy unscented litter and have used Fresh and Light for a long time. It's not 100% unscented, but close to it and it does give off some dust, but not a lot. So, we shall see! 😺 😺 😺

  4. I don't even get why litter is scented to begin with! I think all kitties prefer it unscented.

  5. Looks great. Poppy is an inside/outside cat and is lucky to have a little garden to do her business in. Good on purina for listening to their customers.

  9. We might want to switch, because our current stuff is pretty basic. And Waffles, you are just too delightful!

  11. Y'know...we stopped using Tidy Cat a few years ago because it was so dusty. But reading about this one...we might just give it a try again.
