Me And My Award

Hi everyone, Katie here.

My good friend and fellow blogging cat Fin, over at Housecat Confidential, gave me a very special award... the Kreativ Blogger award!!! She said I always make her laugh. I find that a little concerning given most of my blogs center around the injustice of my treatment, my confined environment... even blatant ridicule and mocking on the part of my captors (Glogirly and Gloman.) I find no humor in that. But maybe Fin's comment is a secret code intended to offer empathy and encouragement to a fellow feline. Maybe Fin is really saying, "hang in there Katie, the ugly sweaters aren't so bad, the periods of abandonment only temporary, they're not laughing AT you..." Yeah that's it. Secret code.

I'm actually very excited about this award because the last time (ok the only other time) we got an award, Glogirly hogged all the credit. She made me write a bunch of supposedly interesting (stupid) things about HER instead of ME. This award is WAY different. This award is all about ME. So thank you, thank you, thank you to my friend and kindred spirit, Fin.

Along with the Kreativ Blogger award come a few responsibilities and requirements... dare I say... rules. These rules though are much more fun than the ones I'm accustomed to though.
Here we go:
  1. Copy and paste the Kreativ Blogger picture onto your blog. Done.
  2. Thank the person who gave you the award and post a link to their blog. Done, Done.
  3. Write 7 things about yourself we do not know. Really? Only seven? Done.
  4. Choose 7 other bloggers to award. Ouch, this is the hard part. All of the blogs I read are great. So many creative cats out there... and even a few creative humans. I know that many of you have already received this award ... so please feel free to pass this on to one of the gazillion other deserving Kreativ Bloggers out there. Done.
  5. Links to those 7 other bloggers. Done.
  6. Notify your 7 bloggers. Done.

Now for the fun.
Seven incredibly interesting things you didn't even know you wanted to know about Katie:

Nicknames are a big deal here at the townhouse. Rarely are any of us addressed by our actual given names. And I have considerably more nicknames than either Glogirly or Gloman. That's because I'm more special. So special in fact, that my nicknames can be categorized by theme. Each theme is comprised of multiple versions.
  • Little Bunny Girl, Little Bunny, Little Bun Bun
  • Little Girl, Leetle Girl, Little
  • Bumble Bunny, Bunny, Bun
  • Sweetle-e-dee, Sweetle, Sweets
  • Kitlin, Kitska, Kitty
  • Bucket? ...I don't understand this one.

I'm a shoe whore. I love shoes. I do things inside, around, and on top of shoes that would make you blush. I am partial to nubuck, however frequently entertain leather, canvas, even mesh. If it has a heel, anything 3" and above... well look away, I can't be held responsible for my actions.

I have trained Gloman into thinking I'm a dog. He thinks HE has trained me, even calls himself the "Cat Whisperer." But in reality it's the other way around. I come when he calls me. I stay when he tells me. I remember everything he doesn't want me to do and I don't do it. At least not when he's looking. I don't bark, but I do talk to him regularly. I can even wag my tail. Note: If ever interrogated, I will deny this entire statement. It never happened.

I can tell Gloman's laundry apart from Glogirl's. Even though all they ever wear is black. When the laundry is all spread out on the bed and Glogirly is folding it, I know which stacks belong to her and which belong to Gloman. I carefully tip-toe around his, never setting a paw on anything. If I start to step on one of his stacks and realize what I'm about to do, I'll pause with paw mid-air and slowly retract. It's all about cat hair you know. Glogirly's laundry is another matter. I step on her stacks, walk across the piles, I even lay down, roll over and twirl just to spread the cat hair all around. I also "help" her fold her laundry. I may observe, but I never "help" Gloman.

As first impressions go, I may appear to be lacking in tact, manners and appropriate social behavior. This statement is primarily based on my tendency to hiss at all humans other than Glogirly and Gloman. The hissing is a result of my general dislike for, well... everyone. In reality I'm actually quite refined, proper and extremely well mannered when it comes to the townhouse environment. I do not jump onto or even touch any surface deemed Off-Limits. Off-Limits surfaces include but are not limited to: Dining tables, TV trays, countertops, occasional tables, coffee tables, desks, vanities, dining room chairs, kitchen counter stools, credenzas, the piano (not including the bench,) certain window sills (nearly all are designated OK, only the one in the office is Off Limits,) and any of Gloman's personal items including laundry (dirty and clean) suitcases (packed or empty) ALL camera gear including ALL camera bags, camera bodies, lenses, and cords. Yes, I really do leave his cords alone. Glogirly's stuff is all fair game. Party on.

I was nearly killed by a piece of pretty pink ribbon three years ago. We refer to it here as the Ribbon Incident. It involved a very sparkly, very enticing piece of pink ribbon. I like ribbon. I like sparkly. I like pink. And since everyone knows that the pink ones always taste the best, I decided to eat the ribbon. On a Sunday. When nothing but the emergency V-E-T hospital was open. I've got to hand it to Gloman. I didn't think he'd agree to shell out the nearly $3,000 required to save me. But he couldn't resist Glogirly's tears. So on a snowy December Sunday I had emergency surgery to remove a section of my small intestine and the three feet of pink ribbon that was stuck inside it. Not something I'd like to ever repeat. But I'm a cat and I still love ribbon.

I was scared of balls when I was a kitten. Big balls, small balls, rubber balls, plastic balls, bouncy balls, golf balls, balls trapped in annoying plastic rings. I've worked hard to face my demon balls. I'm happy to report I now enjoy balls.

Some call me wordy. Sheesh.
Others say I can't count.

... and now for latest recipients of the coveted Kreativ Blogger Award!

Inigo and D'Artagnan at Rumblebum - The Fantastic Adventures of D'Artagnan Rumblepurr & Inigo Flufflebum. Great stories, funny photos and the best names EVER. Plus they live in New Zealand. Since I'm a cat, I don't know where that is. But it sure sounds cool. ...oh, and I love their blog logo too!

Brian at Brian's Home. Fun and humor tempered with thoughtful and poignant words. Awesome Purrs4Peace posts. We love Brian's Home.

Luna at We Love Luna. Clever kitty captions that always make us laugh. Luna also has a very smart looking red chair. Just like me.

Parker at Perfectly Parker. Parker and her mom have lots of fun getting creative with photos and sharing them. Parker's got a dry wit which makes me feel right at home.

Larry at Larry's Photo A Day. Larry is one of the really creative humans. He's a great photographer and artist and shares all sorts of interesting photos, paintings and stories. He has two dogs and Yellow Kitty. Larry leaves me really great advice on life and survival in my comments section.

Gracie at Goodness Gracie. I love Gracie's sense of humor. She's very creative and artistic as well. Her photos often have cool illustrations and captions added in so you know just what she's thinking. I think she's had some graphic design training.

Epic at Epic The Cat. I love Epic. Even though Epic is only about 6 months old, he's really got the blog thing down. I love his lists, advice and factoids. His information is comprehensive, up to date and a must read for the modern cat.

  1. Katie, you're a very special girl! We laughed at the shoe whore comment the most, but it was great getting to know more about you!

  2. We are SO honored!! We're making mummy carry us around on little platforms now, as befitting our wonderfulness at getting such a honor...

And we wanna say a special thank you to Glogirly for her tears at the ribbon incident, we are so happy to have met you (and if not for her we might not have)

  3. Awww, thank you for all the nice words, and the award, of course! It's a real honor being featured in such great company *purrs*

And I really enjoyed reading through your list. I also like helping my human with laundry (although she doesn't always appreciate it) and both my humans often tell me I behave like a little doggy because I love to follow them around (they don't know I'm just making sure they don't do anything silly).

  4. Congratulations on your award, Katie. I loved getting to know more about you. Your shoe whore thing was really funny.

  5. Congratulations on your award Katie. I love those seven things about you. Very interesting!

  6. Katie, thank you for sharing! We luff your blog. The Ribbon Incident makes us shudder... but we totally get the shoe whore thing! Especially Toby :) And the Cat Who Came Before us was completely obsessed with shoes.

  7. I love you too Katie and I am deeply honored. You always make me laugh.
Now go fur something up, OK?

  8. WOW! First let me say congratulations to you, you really, really deserve this award. Then, thanks for sharing it with me, it is an honor indeed. I can see I've got my work cut out for me. ConCATulations for your award and for the fabulous answers, I enjoyed a lot reading this post!

  12. Hi Katie
    CONGRATULATIONS on your award :-)
    I love your answers ...
    Kareltje =^.^=

  13. I'm so glad the evil ribbon didn't stop your brilliant blogging career before it started! That is so scary.

Did you know that when I was in my foster home when I was a baby kitten, my foster mom called me Bumble?

  14. What a great post. We especially loved the ribbon story. You were worth every penny honey.

  15. Wow Katies I knows so much news stuff about you now! I'm glad the ribbon wasnt the end of you!

  16. ConCatulations on your award! We liked learning all of those cool things about you (except for the ribbon incident!).

    Sniffie and the Florida Furkids

  17. Concats on your much deserved award. You are gorgeous, Katie, and we're so happy to get to know you. xxxxxxxxx

  18. Congratulations on your award! And thanks for the warning about ribbon. I might be tempted by a pretty pink ribbon, too.

  19. Katie, you are one of the MOST interesting and funny ladycats that we know! We are ALWAYS guarenteed at least a giggle, if not full blown crack-ups, when we come to visit you! The Ribbon Incident sounded furry scary! Mom had to save both Skeeter and Scooter(RIP) at seperate times. Skeeter choked on a piece of pizza bagel, mom used her long nails to hook it out and gave her mouth to snout ressussetation. And Scooter(RIP) strangled herself with a Macy's bag (the twine handle) and again, mouth to snout was used. It was furry scary too! Hope you have a super day!

  20. Katie! I'm a shoe whore too! But I like them best when they are still on someone's feet. My Mom calls me: Busby Graham, male prostitute.

    Please avoid eating anymore ribbon.

My brother and I are going to check out a few of those blogs you mentioned. We all ready read Gracie and Parker. xo, Busby

  21. Congrats on your award. So deserving and glad that you took the spot light. It is fun to learn more things about you that I didn't know.
Thanks so much for passing the award on to me. I will have to give this careful thinking before I post about my seven things that you don't know about me, because if I post then all will know. So what do I want you to know . . . yes a lot thinking.
Again thanks. Will let you know when I post and link to you. Thanks my sweet friend and love right back at you!!

  22. Congratulations on your award, you deserve. We don't think you are wordy, but worthy.

  23. HI Katie
What a great list and you know what? This time we were glad it was about YOU! Don't our humans know, it's always about us...and oh that sparkly pink ribbon, just tie it around your neck to make yourself more beautiful and don't eat it....we want to keep you around for a long long time.

  24. Well, we learned some stuff about you, Katie! The one thing we are most impressed with is the fact that you stay off of those areas that are counters and tables. We, unfortunately, will not allow ourselves to be trained in that fashion and, therefore, nothing is off limits to us...well, except kitchen counters when mom is cooking or the table when they are says if people only knew, they'd never come over to our house for a dinner party....

  25. Congratulations on your award! It quite nice to learn stuff about you, Katie!

  26. That ribbon incident sounds frightening!
Congrats on a well deserved award! And we're glad you and the balls are all good now.

  27. Congratulations on your award Katie. Now we know about you being a shoe whore. Most of us are still in the closet. And we are so glad the Gloman cannot resist the Glowgirly's tears for what would we do without you.

  28. Congratulations on the award, and we loved reading all the neat things about you.

  29. Coincidence? I call Hakeem "Bun Bun" too! Of course, there's no "Little" in front of it! And Katie, you were worth every penny it cost to save you after the Ribbon Incident!

  30. Excellent list of new things. You are funny Katie, and of course I support you in every way.

I do hear Mom taking GG's side sometimes, but I bite her when she does. I am a Daddy's girl and listen to Dad and not so much to Mom. Her stuff is game on!

    No more ribbon nibbling!!

  31. Concatulations on your awardie! And leave it to you to do it in style, telling us all about yourself! And we visited all the blogs you awarded and those we hadn't ever visited before, we are following now. It's fun to visit new places!

  32. WOW! Fantastic facts abowt yourself! Concats on the award too.

  33. Those were great Katie!!! That poor ribbon incident. Lordy! A very good PCSA (Public Cat Service Announcement) for sure!!

  34. Katie- you are SOOO lucky to have escaped the RIBBON incident unscathed! phew!

  35. Congratulations on your award. It is a most creative project for you Katie, but your the best cat to show how it can be done.
Thank you too for sending forward to me the award. I am very appreciative of your recognition of my blog. I will be sharing it soon but I want to spend some time thinking about how I am going to respond. My wife says I tell everybody just about everything, so I won't have anything to say. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your comment. We LOVE hearing from you!
