WAFFLES: Hey Boss! So what's Glogirly doing out in the snow? Isn't she worried her paws will get cold?
KATIE: She went skiing, Waffles. And I'm pretty sure she's got gloves to keep her "paws" warm.
WAFFLES: Skiing? Like on skis? Down the big, gigantic mountain? Like on purpose???
KATIE: Well she can't really ski without skis.
WAFFLES: Why would she want to go down the mountain with a couple of sticks strapped to her feet? And since when does she ski anyway?
KATIE: Since 28 years ago, Waffles. The last time she skied, she was 28 years old. And that was 28 years ago!
WAFFLES: 28 years??? That's way before we were even born. Did they even have skiing back then?
You read that right! The last time Glogirly went downhill skiing, it wasn't even this century. Now that she's a mountain girl, she decided it would be fun to see if she still remembered how to do it. Would it be like riding a bike?
So she asked our neighbor and resident ski bum Over-the-Hill-Bob if he'd go with her the first time out. Bob knew she was nervous, so instead of planning ahead, he sent her a last-minute text Thursday morning. That way she wouldn't have to get all nervous thinking about it overnight. She just had to pack up and GO!
It was a beautiful bluebird day. Sunny blue skies and crystal clear views of the neighboring mountain ranges.
Much to her surprise, it all came back. She swooshed her way down virtually every run, except for the black diamonds. They even closed the place down making it just in time to catch one of the last chairlifts of the day.
Here's video proof of Glogirly carving out some turns. This was just her second run, so she's still pretty rusty. We think there are going to be many more runs though, in her future.
Well done Glogirly ,have fun,xx Speedy
ReplyDeleteThe last time my human tried to ski, it was 1981!!! So it's been even longer for her. And she was not terribly good at it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time! I think I was 10 years old the last time I skied. Watching your video almost makes me want to try again - but only almost...LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks like Glogirly had a great time
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a great time. I bet you have some very sore muscles too.
ReplyDeleteGood for Glogirly, plus the slopes were wide open and not crowded. No worries about some crazy person skiing into you. Glad she got out of the house and had fun.
ReplyDeleteYou did great, Glogirly!
ReplyDeleteGo Glogirly! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Mama misses skiing. She can't any more because of her back (she gets numb toes) so she probably won't get to but it's wonderful, especially on days where it's not very crowded.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Glogirly!
ReplyDeleteGlogirly, it looks like you had such a wonderful time. We haven't been skiing since grade school and hope to do it again soon. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos. Have a fun rest of your week.

ReplyDeleteKatie and Waffles, you two look cute sniffing the cold mountain air!
Nicely done, Glogirly ! It looks like you had great time ! Can you believe that our Swiss Girl doesn't like to ski at all (and thus forgot how to do it) ? Purrs
ReplyDeleteGood for Glogirly! The mom hasn't skied in years either...and probably never will again for fear of breaking a leg. ;)
ReplyDeleteYay, Glogirly! You're much braver than our mom is!
ReplyDeleteWow..my human hasn't been on downhill skis for years and years (more recently x-country). Impressive!
ReplyDeleteShe says she would have fallen down easily after the first turn! - Tom x
