Our Springtime Winter Wonderland

WAFFLES:  Did you SEE all the new snow, Boss?

KATIE:  I'm kind of busy, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  It's like we're flying over the clouds. Boss, you really should see it. Don't you want to fly over the clouds and stuff?

KATIE:  Busy.

WAFFLES:  But Boss–

KATIE:  Wake me up when it's melted.

WAFFLES:  Ok, Boss. MELTED!

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
When it snows back home in Minnesota, it takes FOREVER to melt. Not so here in Colorado. Glogirly's wearing her boots one day and her flip flops the next. We woke up to a winter wonderland Wednesday. The trees were covered with a sparkly blanket of fresh white snow and not even the man in brown shorts was going to chance our driveway.

The next morning, it was completely gone and felt like spring again. That is until the weatherman started talking about another 10".

One thing's for certain. The Colorado weather changes more quickly than Glogirly changes her mind. Or her underwear.

Snow Hooky #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Glogirly says we're playing Snow Hooky today on account of it's snowing like crazy outside.

WAFFLES:  So, what's a hooky? Do I need ice skates to play? How about a hooky puck?

KATIE:  Please make him stop. I thought today was supposed to be all about napping by the fire. Quietly napping.

It's Snowing in the Mountains!
While people are donning their flip flops back in Minnesota, we're hunkering down for a snowy, wintry nap here in Colorado. We're in desperate need of moisture here so the soft falling flakes are not only pretty to look at but necessary in preventing wildfires. Apparently, our kitty snow dance has worked!

And it's perfect napping weather. Ok, truth be told, ANY weather is perfect napping weather.

We're all stocked up with plenty of cat food and Glogirly food. The Directv went out, but Netflix is Netflixing just fine.

The snowy view from our master bathroom.

And a Very Special Thank You ♥︎
Our hearts are overflowing after all of your sweet comments both here and on Facebook in response to our Monday blog post, Penny for Your Thoughts - The Story Behind our Big Move to the Mountains. The kindness and love you show for all of us has touched our hearts more than you know.

We're super excited to share our new adventures as residents of this beautiful canyon we're calling home. Many of you know that Glogirly is something of an interior design geek, so we're also excited to start giving you a virtual tour of our new mountain house through the eyes of Katie and Waffles.

Penny For Your Thoughts - The Story Behind Our Big Move to the Mountains

WAFFLES:  So Boss, why do we have a giant penny on our wall? How come we don't have a quarter or at least a twenty? You can't even buy a bucket of chicken for that.

KATIE:  Waffles, it's not about what the penny will buy.

WAFFLES:  Well that's good because I don't think it would fit through the drive thru window.

KATIE:  It's about trust. And love. Do you see the date on that penny? It's right behind your ears.

WAFFLES:  You mean the two's and O's?

KATIE:  It's 2002, Waffles. That's the year Glogirly became Glogirly. When she and Gloman got married.

Gloman took that photo for her a few years ago. He looked through hundreds of pennies to find the perfect one. That's why the penny was the first photo she hung in our new house. She thinks of Gloman every time she looks at it.

WAFFLES:  It's kind of orange. Are you sure she doesn't think of me every time she looks at it?

WAFFLES:  Despite what you might think, the world (and it's currency) doesn't revolve around you.

Welcome Home!
Now that our new Colorado house is feeling like home, we thought it was time to answer the question so many of our friends and readers have been asking.

What??? Colorado???

We love Minneapolis. Glogirly has lived there since she was in junior high, she went to college at the University of Minnesota and she met and married the love of her life there. Gloman loves it just as much as she does. He has a very successful business and they have a wonderful son and daughter-in-law who are 100% Katie & Waffles approved.

We also loved our downtown Minneapolis townhouse. If you've been with us for awhile, you probably became accustomed to seeing it in the background of so many of our photos.

Glogirly and Gloman started to think about where they'd like to be someday when they decide to retire. At first they thought they'd never want to leave Minneapolis. They love the city, being able to walk to the grocery store and enjoy the beautiful walking and biking paths along the Mississippi River. For Glogirly, she never really considered moving.

One day after they returned home from visiting with a retirement planner, they started talking about the future. The planner had suggested it's never too early to start browsing different locations and real estate. Gloman had been out to Colorado the previous year on business and had driven through the city of Golden. He remembered looking up at some beautiful homes nestled in the mountains. So he asked, "What about a place in the mountains? Golden, Colorado looks nice." After all, their most favorite vacations have been to the national parks of Colorado, Utah and California.

If you know anything about Glogirly, you know she's always got her laptop at the ready. And she can find just about anything online.

Within about 60 seconds, she found this.

At first it just seemed like a crazy fantasy dream. But she started looking into it deeper. The more she looked, the more she considered, the more she began to think it was a real possibility.

The weekend after Thanksgiving, she and Gloman made a quick trip out to Colorado to see the home. They fell in love... the view nearly took their breath away. So they rolled the dice, placed an offer and got the townhouse on the market the next week. It sold in two days. Next, they found a small apartment in downtown Minneapolis. Since Gloman isn't ready to retire for a few more years, they need a home in both MN and CO.

Over Christmas, they got the apartment set up and shortly after new years, the movers were packing up everything at the townhouse for Colorado.

When Glogirly and Gloman first met, they lived apart for two years. He was in Minnesota and she was in Michigan, so they're no strangers to long-distance love. In fact, it's something they both believe is part of the secret of their success. It forced them to take things slow in the beginning, to really get to know each other. Even when Glogirly moved back to MN, they took their time. Then, five years after they met, they tied the knot.

After much consideration, they decided a long-distance love could work again. Currently, Gloman is based in Minneapolis and Glogirly, Katie & Waffles are all based in Colorado. Gloman flies out to CO about once a month, sometimes for a long weekend, but also for longer vacations and holiday time. Glogirly plans on driving back to MN with Katie & Waffles for longer visits. At the end of April, they're going back for about 2 1/2 weeks. Because she works from wherever her computer is, she can go back whenever she wants to...or whenever she gets really desperate for her hair stylist.

Some think they're crazy. And in part that's true. Crazy in love.

The Big Closet Reveal - Plus a Happy Birthday Wish

WAFFLES:  Wow, Glogirly sure has a lot of stuff for someone who wears the same black pants and cat t-shirt everyday.

WAFFLES:  She better leave some space for Gloman. And where's all my stuff going to go?

WAFFLES:  Speaking of GO–

WAFFLES:  ...they call it mellow yellow ♩♫ –

WAFFLES:  ...like a rock ♩♫ –

WAFFLES:  My work here is done.

The Big Ta-Da!
Glogirly's over the moon with our new California Closet! She's been arranging her shoes and underwear ever since Mister Closet Man left earlier this week. Gloman hasn't moved all his stuff in yet...but he better get on it before Glogirly decides she needs even more shoes.

Happy Birthday to Gloman!
Gloman is in Minneapolis today, so Glogirly's feeling a little blue because she can't give her sweetheart a birthday kiss in person. But she sent a surprise barrage of birthday cards to his office. All of the envelopes were covered in cat stickers, cat stamps, and lots of colored markers. We wanted to make sure that everyone in the mailroom knew who the birthday boy was!

Waffles In the Closet #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  These cat shelves are really tall! Even I might need a ladder to get all the way to the top. But at least there's lots of room for all my toys.

WAFFLES:  There's sure a lot of stuff to inspect before the closet man finishes putting it all up.

WAFFLES:  Hey Mister Closet Man! Don't forget these. I need to have somewhere to hang all my fancy harnesses.

WAFFLES:  Uh...a little to the left, Mister Closet Man.

WAFFLES:  On second thought, I don't need no stinkin' ladder!

About Today's Photos
For the past two days, California Closets has been out our house installing Glogirly's dream-closet. It's been quite a production! Katie lost interest fast as her attention turned to an epic sun puddle. But Waffles was engaged in all the action from start to finish. He's going to need his own kitty tool belt.

We don't have our 'after' photos ready quite yet...Glogirly is still putting away her underwear and shoes. But we'll have our big ta-da pictures for you Friday.

California Closet Cats

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, did you know our closet is going to California today? Our litter box too. That's going to be a really long walk when we have to, you know...go.

KATIE:  Waffles, our closet isn't going to California. California is coming to our closet. Glogirly is having California Closets install customized cabinets today. There's even going to be a special spot devoted to our litterboxes.

WAFFLES:  I don't know, Boss. California is pretty big. I don't think it's going to fit in here.

KATIE:  Waffles, you don't get it. The state of California is not moving into our closet. California has nothing to do with our closet other than the name, California Closets.

WAFFLES:  Well that doesn't make any sense, Boss. They should call it Colorado Closets. At least then we wouldn't have to worry about any closet earthquakes.

About Today's Photos
Glogirly has been counting the days ever since we arrived in Colorado almost two months ago. One of the first places she called the moment we moved in was California Closets. She and Gloman had a customized closet designed by them in our Minneapolis townhouse and they loved it so much, they knew right away that was something they wanted to add into our new Colorado home.

California Closets loaned her some temporary rolling racks to hang her clothes on until the big installation day. She's had to keep her underwear a shoebox and her shoes and boots (all 42 pair of them) in giant plastic bins that look strikingly like litterboxes. Not a very smart storage strategy if you ask us.

So today is a VERY exciting day. Actually tomorrow too. The installation will take two days.

Would you like to see the after pictures?

A Cat & His Leprechaun Dreams

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, have you seen him?

KATIE:  Seen who, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  You know, the Great Leper Can!

KATIE:  Don't you mean the Great Leprechaun?

WAFFLES:  That's what I said...the Great Leper Can! He's got a big pot of golden chicken by his rainbow and he brings all the good cats their own bucket. I've been super good so I should be getting an 18-piece meal.

KATIE:  I can't believe I'm going to ask this– original or extra crispy?

WAFFLES:  Extra crispy, duh. I hope he doesn't forget the gravy.  Maybe I should text him.

KATIE:  So you have his phone number?

I hate to put a damper on your leprechaun dreams, Waffles, but the Great Leprechaun is kind of like the Easter Bunny.

WAFFLES: The Easter Bunny has a pot of golden chicken TOO???

Happy St. Catricks Day!
Thank you, friends, for always making our Irish eyes smile. In honor of St. Paddy's Day, we have a special limerick for you.

Waffles in Waiting #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Are they here yet???

WAFFLES: Will they have soft laps for me to lay on?

WAFFLES:  So many laps, so little time.

About Today's Photos
We hosted our first houseguests this week at the new mountain house and Waffles, being the social-butterfly-cat that he is, was ready and waiting. In fact, both Katie and Waffles were happy to see Gabe & Justina, Glogirly & Gloman's son and daughter-in-law. They recognized them (and their laps) right away.

Gloman was here too and captured these cool b&w photos with his Leica Monochrome camera.

Everyone had a great time exploring our winding canyon roads and hiking trails during the daytime, and curling up on the sofa for movie night when the sun went down.

Waffles' Neighborhood Watch

WAFFLES:  BOSS! Where'd the neighbors go? I haven't seen them in forever.

KATIE:  Waffles, it's not polite to watch the neighbors. Especially with binoculars.

WAFFLES:  But if they don't catch me looking at them, it's like I never looked. Right?

KATIE:  You mean like if you steal food from my dish but I don't catch you in the act, you never stole it?

WAFFLES:  There's food in your dish???

About Today's Photos
With all the house activity lately, what with painters, electricians and plumbers coming and going, not to mention the well traveled trail the UPS man has been blazing to our front door, the neighborhood wildlife sightings have been pretty scarce. It's been at least 3 weeks since we saw the deer family.

There was a little black fox with a white tipped tail swinging by for awhile too, but we've not seen him lately either.

Even since our wildlife window channel went dark, Waffles has had to resort to Nat Geo and Netflix.
