That New Rug Smell

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, nice scratcher, huh?

KATIE: As tempting as it is, I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to scratch this.

WAFFLES:  But it's got that new rug smell.

KATIE:  Well if nobody's looking, what harm is a little scratch?

WAFFLES:  Go for it, Boss!

KATIE:  I can always blame the carnage it on you.

WAFFLES:  Hey, wait a minute.

About Today's Photos
The new living room rug and rug pad arrived Saturday. We didn't know the man in purple shorts worked on the weekends, but because of the big snow on Thursday and Friday, our delivery was delayed. Our super-steep, super-snowy driveway is not for the faint of heart. You've got to love a Fed Ex man who trades in his van for a four-wheel drive Jeep.

Snow Cat Friday

WAFFLES:  Boss! Did you see all the new snow? It's almost as tall as I am! What are we going to do?

KATIE:  Colorado is no different than Minnesota, Waffles. When it snows we nap. For that matter, when it's sunny we nap.

WAFFLES:  I don't know, Boss. It looks really deep. I'm just going to stay up here where it's safe.

KATIE:  For crying out loud, Waffles, it's not snowing inside. I swear, you're just looking for another excuse to climb the ladder.

It's Winter Again!
We have a fresh blanket of fluffy snow here in the mountains. So far about 5 inches, but it's still sprinkling down a bit. Given our crazy-steep driveway, it's a good thing we're all stocked up on cat food and chicken noodle soup. Sorry, Glogirly - pizza delivery and Bite Squad are a thing of the past.

Working Out with Katie & Waffles

WAFFLES:  So Boss, now that Glogirly's got our new workout room set up, don't you think you should be working out?

KATIE:  Don't you think you should be minding your own beeswax, Waffles?

WAFFLES:  I'm just saying, you might want to think about working out. Bees??? What bees?

KATIE:  Things are working out just fine, Waffles. That is, as long as you stay on that side of the weight bench.

WAFFLES:  Why, are the bees on this side of the weight bench?

KATIE:  For crying out loud, Waffles. There are no bees. You've got to learn to relax.

WAFFLES:  How am I supposed to relax if there's bees?

About Today's Photos
Little by little, Glogirly is finally getting our new home set up. Now that the workout room is up and running, (or rather the workout corner of a very small room) she's got no more excuses.

And speaking of working out...Katie continues to surprise all of us with how comfortable she is in her new space. Like some of you mentioned in your comments the other day, it's as if she hit a reset button. Things that used to make her uncomfortable or nervous have completely melted away. She's relaxed, enjoying playtime and basking in the sunshine on the workout room rug.

We've had painters here this week too, so lots of unusual activity and new people. Today, Katie made history. When Richie the painter bent down to say hello, she trotted over to him to sniff his hand, let him touch her and gave him a few of her soft meow-chirps. She's never, EVER done this for anyone other than immediate family. In fact, if Glogirly hadn't seen it with her own two eyes she'd never have believed it.

Things really are working out.

Cats in the Closet

*EAR WORM ALERT - Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin*
WAFFLES:  ...and the cats in the closet in the afternoon, little boy cat and the man on the moon. ♩♫

KATIE:  Way to ruin a perfectly good nap, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  You don't like my song, Boss?

KATIE:  I was hoping for a little Simon & Garfunkle.

WAFFLES:  ...hello dark meat, my old friend. I'd like to eat you once again.♩♫

KATIE:  I was hoping for The Sound of Silence.

About Today's Photos
While continuing to unpack boxes today, Glogirly realized she hadn't seen Katie or Waffles since breakfast. She looked high and low, checked out every sun puddle, but no Katie and no Waffles. It wasn't until she flipped the light on in the closet to grab a sweater that she found them napping side by side in their Sleepypods.

Stranger Things with Waffles & Katie

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, can I come and sit by you on the sofa?

KATIE:  What, are you finally tired of sitting on top of that giant ladder?

WAFFLES:  Why, do you want to come up here, Boss?

KATIE:  I don't do ladders, Waffles. Especially ladders with orange cats perched on top.

Stranger Things
A strange phenomenon has been taking place in our new mountain home. At first we thought it was the altitude. Or perhaps something in the water. It's a mystery no one has been able to explain.

If you've been with us for awhile, you might remember when we took a vacation to the shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota a couple of years ago. Though Katie has always been shy and sometimes even a little reclusive at home, in the new digs of our lakeshore rental she was strutting her stuff from the moment we arrived. It's almost like she was more comfortable there than at home. She had a confidence about her and was quick to explore every inch of the new space.

Fast forward to our new Colorado home - The same thing has happened again. Katie is more comfortable than ever. So much so that she's even allowing Waffles to get closer and closer to her. They follow each other around the house, sometimes even running with each other. When Glogirly sits down to watch TV, they both join her, sitting closer than ever. They're both even sleeping with Glogirly within inches of each other.

And if that's not crazy enough for you - Katie, who has always been scared of strangers and visitors, has suddenly started approaching new visitors in the house. She's let the painter talk to her and approach her, she's gotten close to the plumber, the electrician... virtually everyone who has come to the house.

It's almost as if the new space has given her a fresh start, a spring in her step and a trusting confidence  in people.

What do you think? Is it possible for behaviors to be somehow linked to a physical space? We'd love to hear your theories!

The Un-Valentine

WAFFLES:  Did you like my valentine, Boss?

KATIE:  What valentine? You didn't give me a valentine.

WAFFLES:  Yeah I did. You know, the heart shaped box of chicken treats.

KATIE:  What heart shaped box of chicken treats?

WAFFLES:  You didn't get any?

KATIE:  I think I'd remember a heart shaped box of chicken treats.

WAFFLES:  Well maybe you just forgot.

KATIE:  Waffles, you should know by now that I never forget.

WAFFLES:  But you forgot to give me a valentine.

WAFFLES:  Like I said, Waffles. I never forget.

About Today's Blog Post
Today's Valentines post originally appeared last year on February 14. It still makes us giggle so we thought we'd share it with you again.

Since our big move to the mountains, Katie and Waffles have been showing more and more signs of tolerating each other and at times even, dare we say, liking each other.

Nothing as dramatic as what Valentines Day might imply, but for Katie and Waffles, an altercation-free day with no patty cake paws at mealtime is nothing short of amazing.

We hope you had a Happy Valentines Day filled with lots of kitty love and mealtime bliss.

A Mancat & His Bachelor Pad

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, I bet all the ladies are going to be super impressed with my new bachelor pad.

KATIE:  *yawn*

WAFFLES:  Boss?

KATIE:  Waffles, this isn't your bachelor pad. This is Gloman and Glogirly's Minneapolis apartment. It's where we stay when we're city cats, as opposed to Colorado mountain cats.

WAFFLES:  I still say this should be my bachelor pad. A handsome mancat needs his own pad.

About Today's Photos
When Waffles and Katie aren't taking in the mountain views and neighboring wildlife in Colorado, they're lounging high above the city lights of Minneapolis.

Although our Minneapolis "Townhouse" is no more, (we hear a DOG has moved in - GASP!!!) our new Minneapolis apartment sits high atop one of the tallest buildings in the city and has a twinkling lights view of the theater district and skyline. This is where Gloman is based while he manages his business and continues to work.

He's been making regular trips to Colorado though to visit. According to Waffles, there's no lap like Gloman's lap.

Today's photos were taken just a couple of days before Glogirly, Katie and Waffles left for Colorado. They probably won't be road tripping back to Minnesota though until all the boxes are unpacked and the snow has melted.

About That Snack Cabinet...

WAFFLES:  I can't find anything in this new kitchen, Boss.

KATIE:  What do you mean? You can see the whole house from up there.

WAFFLES:  I mean I can't find the snack cupboard with the Cheetos and stuff. How am I going to raid the snack cabinet in the middle of the night if I don't know where the snack cabinet is

KATIE:  Maybe there's no snack cabinet. Did you ever think of that?

WAFFLES:  La la la la... I'm going to pretend you never said that, Boss.

About Today's Photos
Waffles and Katie aren't the only ones that can't find anything in the new kitchen. Even Glogirly, who's been putting everything away over the past few days, can't find a thing.

She's still working her way through piles of boxes, but has been making lots of progress. Especially in the kitchen. We promise to show you more of what our new mountain home looks like...through the eyes of Katie & Waffles, of course.

Taking a Boxing Break #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  All this boxing is making me sleepy. Zzzz...

The Unpacking Continues
And Waffles is continuing his box inspections. Tonight, of course when the camera was out of reach, Waffles thought it would be fun to inspect an empty wardrobe box. Once he leaped into the 5' tall box, the top flaps shut and there he was...trapped. The only thing showing was his pink nose through the one of the handle holes.

After a few pleading meows, Glogirly rescued him by tipping the box on it's side so he could walk out.

And 5 minutes later he was sitting in the bottom of the very same box.

Considering Glogirly still has over 75 boxes to unpack,  Waffles has only begun.

WAFFLES:  So many boxes, so little time before Glogirly puts them in the recycling.

Waffles: Supervisor of Everything

WAFFLES:  A little to the right.

WAFFLES:  A little to the other right.

KATIE:  I'm SO not taking orders from a cat who doesn't know the difference between right and left. Or right and wrong, for that matter.

The Movers have Landed!
The movers finally made it down our, according to them, steep driveway. Glogirly has been busy unpacking, putting stuff away, arranging stuff, staring at stuff, rearranging stuff. Lots of stuff. She calls it nesting.

Today's photos were taken shortly before the movers arrived.

This is what it looked like shortly after the movers left.

Actually those are just a few of the 250+ boxes.

And yes, Waffles has been investigating each one inside and out.

More to come...
We're SO excited to share more about our new digs and zip code. Gloman is visiting later this week and we can't wait to see him. Waffles needs to make up for lost lap time and Katie needs to catch up on her Catdaddy one-on-one time. And of course, Glogirly is missing her sweetheart.

We're Mountain Cats!

WAFFLES:  Uh, Boss...the neighbors are here. They're staring at me.

KATIE:  Well for Cod's sake, don't let them in. We have no idea who or even what they are. Now get out of the window. You don't want to encourage them.

WAFFLES:  Maybe they need some encouragement.

You can do it, funny looking neighbors! You can do it!

KATIE:  If they ring the doorbell, I'm SO under the bed.

WAFFLES:  They're coming closer, Boss!

KATIE: Oh wait... all we have is this flimsy sleeping bag.

About Today's Photos
So where exactly are Katie & Waffles???

A bunch of you guessed and a couple of you even got it right. We're in Colorado! High up in the mountains at 8,333 feet.  ...that's a LOT of feet!

So you're probably wondering what we're doing in Colorado, besides spying on the funny looking neighbors and napping in sleeping bags. Well the big news is...we bought a house in the mountains.

WAFFLES:  Wait. What???

Think of it like a cabin. So now we're not only Minneapolis Cats, we're Colorado Cats too -  Mountain Cats!

We're waiting for the moving truck to arrive. It still hasn't made it down our super steep driveway, but we hear tomorrow is the big day. And there'll be untold numbers of...wait for it...BOXES!

The Cats aren't in Kansas Anymore! #WafflesWednesday

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss? Have you seen those big bumps outside?

WAFFLES:  Glogirly says they're mountains. We didn't have mountains at the Townhouse, did we?

KATIE:  No, Waffles. There weren't any mountains in the city. Only things like pizza delivery, Netflix...and heat. Given Glogirly's fire building skills, I suggest you hunker down in one of those sleeping bags.

WAFFLES:  So if there's no pizza delivery, no Netflix and no heat, I guess that means KFC is out.

About Today's Photos
We're not in Kansas anymore!

Or Minneapolis either. We love a good secret though, so we're going to leave you hanging just a teensy bit longer. All we can tell you is we're in the mountains, snuggling in sleeping bags and cozying up to a warm fire. Not a Papa Johns or Dominos in sight.

Katie really scared Waffles with her campfire story about there being no KFC too.
