Waffles and Katie's Neighborhood Watch

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, where'd the neighbors go? I haven't seen them in forever.

KATIE:  Waffles, it's not polite to watch the neighbors. Especially with binoculars.

WAFFLES:  But if they don't catch me looking at them, it's like I never looked. Right?

KATIE:  You mean like if you steal food from my dish but I don't catch you in the act, you never stole it?

WAFFLES:  There's food in your dish???

About Today's Photos
As the seasons start to shift and we head into fall, we're saying goodbye to some of our most favorite "neighbors." Our mountain home has been a hot spot for the local hummingbirds all summer long. Glogirly's homemade juice is top on our hummingbird's favorite menu and we've seen 100s of these fast-flying beauties. But September 1 marks their gradual migration south. There are still a couple of stragglers filling up on nectar before their long trip to warmer weather. We're sure going to miss them!

Paws crossed that our deer family and the little red fox stop by for a visit. Until then, Katie and Waffles will have to resort to Nat Geo and Netflix for their wildlife viewing pleasure.

  1. Our hummers have been gone for a while. I will have to wait for next year when they will peck, peck, peck on the window for their nectar.

  2. We don't put out nectar for our hummers (my human worries that she won't take care of the upkeep regularly enough, and it will wind up harming them). But a few still pop by every so often - in fact, we saw one yesterday when my human and I were in the back!

  3. We still have a few hummers and love to hear them chirping. We still have juice out and there's still some flowers.

  4. It is getting cooler where we are and the hummers are going.
We will keep the feeders up for any stragglers.

  8. We had a whole pile of grackles come through the other day; like a cloud of locusts almost! They came and pecked at all the grass, then flew to the next yard and kept on moving. Grackles in the front yard, grackles in the backyard...and Angel and Chuck wide-eyed at every window they could climb up to!

  10. you have lots of hummers, we only get a few. Tell your mum to keep the feeder up for two weeks after you see your last little hummer. This is for the later commuters that you might not see. Our feeder stays up into October most of the time.

  13. Hoping the deer and fox don't stop by at the same time or Waff will really get a show his eyes might not be able to unsee. TW once had a BF who called her hummingbird.
