Window Seat, Party of One

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss, I'm laying in the window spot.

KATIE:  And you're broadcasting that because...

WAFFLES:  Just thought you'd want to know.

KATIE:  You do realize that window right behind you is 24 floors up in the air. That means it's 261 feet down to the ground.

WAFFLES:  *Gulp* That's a LOT of feet. What does that convert to in paws?

About Today's Photos
We may be the equivalent of nearly a whole football field up in the air in our downtown apartment, but it doesn't seem to phase Waffles or Katie. They're each fascinated with the constant movement and buzz of the city. Whether it's people walking on the sidewalks, traffic zipping through the streets or even sirens blasting in the distance...they take it all in stride.

The coveted window seat is considered prime real estate here. Waffles spends a good chunk of the daytime hours there but Katie's got a standing reservation for the evening hours.

Can you spot Waffles?

Game On

WAFFLES:  What're you looking at, Boss?

KATIE:  What am I looking at? What are YOU looking at?

WAFFLES:  Nothing.

KATIE:  You want a piece of me?

WAFFLES:  I was kind of thinking a piece of that fetch toy.

 KATIE:  Game on, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  Slow down, Boss! I can't keep –

KATIE:  Up?

WAFFLES:  Where's the –

KATIE:  Fetch toy?

WAFFLES:  There! It's right –

KATIE:  Where I want it.

WAFFLES:  Pass it up here, Boss.

KATIE:  Dream on, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  But –

KATIE:  And don't even bother playing the cute card.

WAFFLES:  Cute card? What cute card?

Katie's Got Game
Now that we're all rested up from the long Colorado-to-Minneapolis road trip, Katie's got a new spring in her step. Actually, it's more than a spring. Kind of a full-on run. She's barefoot, fancy-free and has even been spotted playing with...Waffles. (gasp!)

From the look on his face, Waffles is as surprised as anyone.

At 12 years old, Katie is proof that age is nothing but a state of mind.

Metro Cats - Room With a View

WAFFLES:  We sure have a LOT more neighbors here than in Colorado, Boss. But where's the deer family?

WAFFLES:  And the foxes and chipmunks?

KATIE:  This is a whole new kind of wildlife, Waffles.

Metro Cats
We're back in Minneapolis for a couple of weeks and Katie & Waffles are digging the view from our downtown apartment. Day or night, they both love watching the world from 24 stories up.

We've traded in the sound of silence for the roaring hum of the city. There's so much to love about both worlds. And it's certainly fun to be able to bounce between the two. Katie & Waffles are every bit as comfortable and at home as Metro Cats as they are as Mountain Cats.

The sparkling view from our apartment looks out over the main skyline and theatre district.

Road Warrior Cats

WAFFLES:  That was a really long road trip, Boss. I'm tired. Are you tired?

WAFFLES:  Boss?

KATIE: I'm busy, Waffles.

WAFFLES:  You don't look busy.

KATIE:  Trust me, I'm busy.

WAFFLES:  Aren't you too tired to be busy?

KATIE:  Busy, in that you can leave me alone now.

WAFFLES:  You really should gert some rest, Boss.

Road Warriors
We got an early start on Tuesday and left Colorado about a half hour before the sun said hello. 5:32 am MST to be exact. It was smooth sailing with just a few stops for everyone to stretch their legs and we made it back to Minneapolis at exactly 7:46 pm, CST.

932 miles. 13 hours, 14 minutes.

According to Glogirly -  Katie and Waffles were road trip rockstars. They relaxed in their Sleepypods the WHOLE way. Even Waffles was chill. He sang the song of his people just a couple of times, but for the most part, he was quiet as a mouse.

During a couple of stops, Glogirly let Katie and Waffles out of their pods to explore the car...and the litter box. After taking care of business, Katie hopped right back into her carrier. Waffles was easily coaxed back inside as well.

Glogirly had gotten a great night's sleep and felt really good the whole way. She packed some of her favorite CDs so she could sing the songs of HER people the whole way. And before they all knew it, they were home!

Thank you so much for wishing us safe travels and checking in on our arrival. There were LOTS of naps yesterday. And we wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple today as well.

Roadtrip!

KATIE:  Are you ready, Waffles?

WAFFLES: How long's the car ride again?

KATIE:  13 or 14 hours. About 932 miles.

WAFFLES:  That's a long time in the car, Boss.

KATIE:  Exactly. That's why I asked if you're ready. So. Are you?

The REALLY Long and Winding Road
Today's the day! (Well considering we write and publish our blog post the night before, that means for us, tomorrow's the day.) Waffles, Katie and Glogirly are road-tripping their way back to Minneapolis for a visit. Glogirly packed up the car last night with all the essentials - Portable litter box, cat beds, cat blankets, cat toys, cat food, cat snacks... There was barely enough room for her underwear and shoes. Not to worry, she made it all fit with plenty of space for Katie and Waffles' Sleepypods.

With so many miles ahead, it was lights out early last night. The plan is to leave just before the sun is ready to peek over the mountains and drive the whole way, that is as long as Glogirly feels rested and doesn't get tired. But we've already got a hotel picked out in case we decide to stop for the night.

It was still pretty bright out when everyone went to bed, so Glogirly donned her cat sleep mask. And  of course, her flannel cat pajamas. She always sleeps better when she's surrounded by cats.

Saturday Night Waffles

WAFFLES:  You should be dancing, yeah ♩♬  do-do-do ♩♬  Dancing, yeah!

KATIE:  How about you go do your dancing on the other side of the kitchen...yeah?  do-do-do ♩♬

Glogirly's Disco Confession
Yes, it's true. Glogirly is a child of the 70s and a self proclaimed Bee Gee's fangirl. Last night the Grammy's Bee Gee's Tribute was on TV and, well... all we can say is that we're glad we don't have any neighbors too close by.

Waffles is Working It

WAFFLES:  Everybody's working for the weekend ♩♫

KATIE:  Waffles, you don't have a job.

WAFFLES:  Everybody wants a little romance ♩♫  Yeah-eah-eah-eah-eah-eah ♩♫

KATIE:  Speak for yourself, Waffles. And keep those paws to yourself.

Coming Soon!
We're getting ready for a big road trip back to Minneapolis next week for a visit. Glogirly's already getting the Sleepypods and portable litter box ready. It's about a 13 hour drive, but Waffles and Katie are old pros now when it comes to car travel. We'll be spending a couple weeks in our high rise apartment and trading our mountain views for the sparkling city skyline. We promise to take you along for the ride...and the view!

Waffles' Wildlife Sighting

WAFFLES: Do you see what I see?

WAFFLES:  What IS that?

WAFFLES:  I think he's staring at me. Definitely staring.

WAFFLES:  I don't like the look on his face.

KATIE:  Good grief. You'd think he was nose to nose with a mountain lion or something.

Rare Sighting of the Elusive Cat Clock in the Window.

About Today's Photos
Yesterday Glogirly decided to finally give the rowing machine a good run. It had been awhile so the batteries in the built-in monitor that show the time, how many meters you've rowed, etc...had gone dead. So to keep track of her time, she grabbed the cat clock she hadn't hung up on the wall yet and stuck it in the window.

While she rowed, rowed, rowed the rowing machine, Waffles sat frozen on the weight bench with his eyes fixed on the window. He'd move a paw like he was going to get a little closer to check out whatever he was seeing, but then he'd chicken out. He was craning his neck back and forth so much that Glogirly started craning her neck back and forth too. When she couldn't figure out what he was looking at, she got up to see if there was some kind of animal outside. Maybe the red fox we'd spotted the day before, the deer family. We've really been hoping to spot a mountain lion!

That's when she figured out he was looking at the slow-moving second hand on the cat clock. The big, scary smiling cat clock.

Cat Blanket Negotiations

KATIE: Waffles, what do you think you're doing?

WAFFLES:  Nothing.

KATIE:  Well you're doing nothing awfully close to me. On my blanket no less.

WAFFLES:  But I like your blanket.

KATIE:  What's wrong with your blanket?

WAFFLES:  Nothing.

KATIE:  Except for the fact that it's not my blanket, right?

WAFFLES:  This isn't your blanket? So it must be my blanket then.

KATIE:  Waffles?

WAFFLES:  It's ok Boss. You can lay on my blanket.

KATIE:  This IS my blanket.

WAFFLES:  Wow...the Boss really takes my blanket seriously.

Wait, What???
Today's photos are 100% real. Promise. They've not been altered in any way. Last night while Glogirly was binge watching Netflix, Katie curled up beside her on the cushy blanket. All of a sudden, Waffles decided he was going to join in. Katie's ears perked up and there may have even been a little bit of an audible protest, but she was just too comfortable to move or even defend her space.

The camera was out of reach so Glogirly had to ever-so-carefully slide off the sofa and tippy toe her way to it, all the while holding her breath. After all, who was going to believe Katie and Waffles lounging on the sofa together without photographic evidence?

See...you barely believe it now, don't you?

Friday Outtakes x3

Each week we take a LOT of photos. But only a few make the final cut to becoming blog-worthy. We thought you might like seeing a few that for one reason or another, didn't make it into their intended blog post. And a special BONUS - the girl who rarely makes an actual appearance here!

Not only did Katie photobomb Glogirly's selfie...she did it on the kitchen counter. (GASP!)

WAFFLES:  You look at the camera, Boss.

KATIE:  No, YOU look at the camera.

WAFFLES:  I'll look if you look.

KATIE:  I'm not going to look. You look.

WAFFLES:  How about we look together?

KATIE:  How about you go look from the other side of the room?

KATIE:  This is NOT my good side.

WAFFLES:  I'm so embarrassed. I forgot my line.

KATIE:  Waffles, you don't have any lines.

WAFFLES:  I do too have lines. Blah, blah, blah. Blah blah, blah, blah.

Melting Away Moving Stress with Feliway® for Cats

WAFFLES:  Helloooo? Is anybody in there? Hmmm. I don't think anybody's home, Boss.

KATIE:  Waffles, no one's living inside there. That's our Feliway® MultiCat Diffuser.

WAFFLES:  I don't know, Boss. Sounds like a bunch of cats feeling their way around our house.

KATIE:  Seriously, Waffles? We've been using Feliway® for years now. It's one of Glogirly's secret weapons to creating peace and harmony around here. It's what helps keep you from completely annoying me day after day.

WAFFLES: You mean so I can just annoy you every other day?

We're Feliway's #1 Fans
We were so excited when our friends at Feliway® contacted us about sharing our experience with their products. We've been fans of their entire line for many years now and first discovered them way back when Waffles joined the family. Along with his irresistible charm and dashing good looks, he also brought with him an extrovert personality that from the very start, created conflict between him and Katie.
What Is It?
You know how cats love to rub up against anything and everything with their heads and the sides of their mouths? They're actually depositing kitty pheromones. It's something only cats can sense and smell and helps them to feel secure and comfortable in their environment. It's not just about marking stuff as mine, it's about creating safe and familiar spaces.

Feliway® mimics these natural feline facial pheromones.

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?
Feliway® was first recommended to us by our vet as a way to help with the introduction of a new cat into our home as well as an effective way to help with the everyday stress levels so many multicat families experience.

What we didn't realize was just how many uses we'd find for it.
How It Works For Us
If you've been tuning in over the past couple of months, you know that we recently made a big move from Minnesota to Colorado. Feliway® was with us every step of the way. It comes in three forms - Feliway® MultiCat Diffuser, Wipes and Spray. And we used them ALL.

In The Car
For the long drive, we sprayed the inside of the car lightly with the Feliway® Spray. We also used the Feliway® wipes on the inside of our carriers. We did this about 15 minutes before we departed and before everyone, and every cat, loaded into the car.

Hotel Rooms
Since it was a two-day road trip, we spent one night in a pet-friendly hotel. We love how many hotel chains now accommodate our furry family members, but that also means there are a LOT of unfamiliar and unsettling smells. As soon we checked in, we sprayed the room, making sure to focus on areas that were carpeted, as well as upholstered furniture and the bed. In addition, we plugged in a Feliway® MultiCat Diffuser.

New House
When we arrived at our new home, we had nothing but the few bags we'd packed in the car. Our furniture, with all it's familiar smells, didn't arrive for another two weeks. That made it even more important to make what was a new and very unfamiliar space feel safe and comfortable for Katie & Waffles. Right away we plugged in three of the diffusers - one in the main living area, one in the master bedroom and one in the office. When we lived in our three level townhome, we had one plugged in on each floor.

The spray came in very handy as well, especially in the rooms that had carpeting. We used the wipes on our the blankets, bedding and even Glogirly's sleeping bag.

New People
One of the biggest sources of stress for many cats is unfamiliar visitors. When you move into a new house, the unfamiliar visitors just keep coming, and coming. Movers, electricians, painters, repairmen, delivery people...you name it. We made sure to have one of our diffusers placed near the front entrance to the house. Some of the tradesmen left their tools and supplies overnight for larger projects. We used the spray on the painter's drop cloths and the electrician's tool bag. It wasn't long before both Katie and Waffles were warming up to all of them.

Everyday Life
We've talked a lot about our move, but Feliway® is something we continue to use everyday. Katie and Waffles' complicated relationship has come a long way over the years, but it's not always sunshine and rainbows. We keep our diffusers going in areas of the house they spend most of their time in. The spray and wipes must-haves for rides in the car to the vet, and road trips back to Minneapolis for visits.

The Details
  • Feliway® is not a drug.
  • It mimics the naturally occurring feline facial pheromone.
  • It's non-sedating, non-systemic and is safe to use with any other treatments or conditions.
  • It's available through your veterinarian. ...in fact, we bet your vet even uses it in their exam rooms!
  • Find out more and where to purchase HERE.

Also from the Makers of Feliway® - Catego™ For Cats
In addition to all the great Feliway® products, we also received a sample of Catego™, their monthly preventative flea and tick control treatment.

Topical flea and tick treatments are something of a controversial topic. Some pet parents use them regularly with great success and some prefer non-chemical, natural preventative measures. It's a very personal choice and one that we recommend discussing with your veterinarian.

It's extremely important to never use a flea and tick treatment meant for dogs on your cats. Catego™ is designed specifically for cats and only cats.

  • Kills all life stages of ticks
