#TuxieTuesday - From Katie's Heart

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Today's blog post isn't a funny one. You probably won't choke on your morning coffee and much to Waffles' chagrin, we won't be telling chicken jokes. Many of our friends who know us well, know that our blog posts are always inspired by the goings on here at the Townhouse. All that crazy stuff that Waffles does? Yes, it's really true. You can't make up that kind of crazy.

So when the skies fill with clouds, it can be hard to find the funny linings. And just ignoring the clouds... well, that doesn't feel very authentic.

I haven't been feeling very well lately. Please don't worry about me... I'm really going to be fine, but I could sure use a few purrs from my friends. I've been to the vet a number of times over the past few months, mostly because I haven't been feeling well enough to eat as voraciously as I usually do. We're still figuring out what's going on, but it's really looking like I may have something that's called IBD, or Irritable Bowel Disorder. Glogirly is in very close contact with my vet and they are taking very good care of me. She's also that cat parent who reads everything she can get her paws on about this sort of stuff. Suffice it to say that I'm in good hands.

When I'm feeling a little better, I'm sure we'll be able to make light of the whole thing. I mean, just think about what it's going to be like trying to explain IBD to Waffles. I can already hear him calling me crabby and comparing our bowls.

And when I've got the spring back in my step, we'll be sure to share what we've learned along the way so that it might help someone going through the same thing.

But for now, I just wanted you to know why I'm not feeling my usual sassy-self. We'll be back to our regular schedule of giggles tomorrow... I mean it IS Waffles Wednesday after all. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, your purrs and your love. You mean the world to all of us.

XO,
Katie

  3. Oh poor, dear Katie -- if IBD for cats is anything like what humans get -- I know what you're going through. I sure hope they figure out what makes you feel better soon! I'll rustle up purrs for you from the entire clowder here. ((post remade by finicky copy editor person))

  5. Oh sweetheart, we have LOADS of extra purrs to send you! I'm that calling of cat mom too that reads about these things voraciously. You could not be in better hands!

  6. I hope you feel better soon.

Also, I wish they would have different initials for some of these diseases. In cats, there is Inflammatory Bowel Disease/Disorder, and then there is a separate problem, Irritable Bowel Disease/Syndrome. I know they are treated differently. Whichever you have Katie, I hope it goes away very soon.

    1. Mr. Black, thank you for pointing that out. We're pretty sure it's Inflammatory Bowel Disorder. Katie's problem is more of an inflammation thing and possible thickening of the intestinal walls as opposed to Irritable Bowel Disease. ...though I have a feeling this whole thing is making ALL of us a little bit irritable.
      ; )

    2. I only know this because last February, I also got sick, and an x-ray showed a thickening of the intestinal wall. I know they can't give a definitive diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease/Disorder unless they do a biopsy (the lady wouldn't put me through that), so I have been on Hill's Rx Diet (Metabolic Diet [kibble]) for almost a year, and I have not had any problems since. I know each kitty's situation is unique, so it might not work for you, and I know your vet will decide what is best.

  17. That's not nice, Katie! We are sorry you are feeling so crappy!! Here I think the humans get something called Inflammatory Bowel Disease or they get Irritable Bowel Syndrome! They are two different things. TThe first one they can treat, the second they can't, or so I'm told!! And yes, kitties get it too :( Lots of gentle purrs xox

Hang in there and hopefully this will all be taken care of easily and you will be your normal self. We know Waffles must be confused when you aren't trying to keep him in line. 50. I am very sorry you've been not feeling well Katie. One of our Vets diagnosed Abby with IBD. It wasn't by the way. But I did start Abby on Organic Slippery Elm. It may help Katie. I highly encourage you to read up on it if you haven't already. It is a natural substance that will do no harm but it helps coat the intestinal tract and works on reducing the inflammation.
