Remembering Nicki, the Cat Who Came Before Us, With a Special Giveaway from A Pet's Life

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! Who's this Nicki person and what's with the box?

KATIE:  Waffles, Nicki was the cat that came before us.

WAFFLES:  You mean Glogirly used to have ANOTHER CAT???  Did he have a blog too?

KATIE:  Waffles, it was a long, long time ago. Before blogs and emails and online shopping.

WAFFLES:  Before Amazon Prime?

KATIE:  Glogirly keeps Nicki's ashes in the same little cardboard box the vet handed to her many years ago.

WAFFLES:  You mean there's a CAT in the box???

KATIE:  Waffles, it's just Nicki's ashes. His soul lives in Glogirly's heart. One day, hopefully a long, long time from now, we'll be living in Glogirly's heart too. Right alongside Nicki.

WAFFLES:  Well if we're going to always be in her heart, that sounds like a pretty nice place.

KATIE:  Recently the people at A Pet's Life contacted Glogirly about featuring some of their products on our blog. They make beautiful personalized frames, memento boxes and urns especially for pet lovers. When Glogirly visited their website, she said it was as if Nicki had intervened and sent her there. You see, she's always wanted a special place to keep her memories of Nicki, but something always got in the way. That's why all these years later, he still rests in that little cardboard box.

"Everything's going to be okay." –Nicki   ...his story

KATIE: Glogirly has moved more times than you or even I can count. With every move, she'd pack up Nicki's little box with all her other stuff and head off to the next chapter in her life. As organized as she is, Glogirly wasn't very good at labeling. She'd move into a new place and find herself surrounded by stacks and stacks of unmarked boxes.

WAFFLES:  Cool!  BOXES?  How many?

KATIE:  It doesn't matter. What DOES matter is what happened every time she opened up the FIRST box.

WAFFLES:  What, did she find candy? Or her favorite toy? Maybe a missing sock.

KATIE:  Every single time she moved and began to unpack, she'd grab a random box from the pile. And when she opened it up, there was Nicki. His little box was right on top of that first box, time and time again. Move after move.

WAFFLES:  Nicki must have super-special powers!

KATIE:  He was special, that's for sure. And for Glogirly, it always meant that, "Everything's going to be okay."

A Pet's Life Memento Box
Now Nicki has a proper resting place of his very own. There's room inside for the tattered cardboard box that Glogirly can't bear to part with. The two adjustable cubbies leave plenty of room for a special toy and collar.

Pretty Details
On the inside of the lid, there's a pouch just perfect for keepsake photos and cards. The box is beautifully crafted, upholstered in a buttery leather-like vinyl, and lined in velvet. Even the personalized plaque is a rich satin nickel-like finish.

Purr-sonalized Keepsake Frames
In addition to Nicki's memento box, they also sent Glogirly personalized frames for both you and me. They come in three colors of a soft leathery vinyl. The stitching detail is rich and pretty and there's a choice of fonts for the personalized plaque.

WAFFLES:  Hey Boss! This one says, "Waffles!"

WAFFLES:  Um Boss? I think they spelled your name wrong. Isn't it B-O-S–

KATIE:  It's PURR-fect. Just like me.

They can choose from a variety of colors and sizes...and of course, they can have their pet's name engraved on the special plaque. 1. Oh this is a very cool thing! Imagine. I think the Woman would probably use it for one of the cats who came before though.

  2. I love the idea of a pet's memento box. As much as we hate to think about death, it's a good idea to have a plan. One of mine died suddenly and I was too upset to think ahead and I ended up burying him in my elderly parents' yard. They won't be there forever, but my pet will be. If I had to do it again I'd have cremated him and placed him in a box like this.

  3. My human knows Nicki's story and says it is very special! She has very few mementos of the cat before me - just a handful of photographs - and even less of the cat before the cat before me.

  4. I'm crying over your beautiful story. Tara's been gone for 9 months now and she is still with me every single day. Truffles knows that the cat who came before her was incredibly special and is always watching over her.

  5. I can't count the cats that came before there were so many. I have never had less than two and usually I've had three or more.

And then there were the seventeen....

I am the crazy cat lady.

  7. What a perfect box for your dear Nicki. The pet memorial market is growing and this company sounds like I should include them as a resource for my pet loss book.

  8. I miss my Katy. I still cant believe she is gone forever :'( My first comment on this blog was that I also had a beautiful cat named Katy and not long after she was gone due to some evil neighbor who was poisoning peoples pets, especially cats. Katy was the most special cat.

Oh no! That's so very sad. I'm so sorry you lost your dear Katy.

  12. I really like these frames. I have lost several of my furbabies over the years and while I try to focus on the ones with me now, I'll never forget the ones who are no longer here. In my adult lifetime I've lost three cats and three dogs, and all were quite old and healthy until the end. I hope all my furbabies live long and healthy lives.

  19. We love the momento box, the Lady needs one for each of her cats before we move (she still doesn't know why she didn't keep Danny's ashes). She said that she kept the box Herb's ashes were in too for the longest time, until the vet said there was an urn in there. Thanks for telling us about Nicki. Love Dolly

  20. Pop has a special tribute set up for Autumn in his room with her ashes in a special wooden box, picture and some of her fave toys. We also have one for Chizzy with a pic, his collar and his fave toy. Faith’s contains her little bandage from getting declawed (yeah, they would NEVER happen today). For some reason, TW’s heart cat Nicky, only has photos.

  29. Thank you for sharing Nicky's story ! Those memento boxes are beautiful, not too simple, but not "too much". If you have no garden as us to make rest your kitty among flowers, or if you prefer keep it home, these boxes are great. Purrs, Zorro

  44. What a wonderful box and great frames! Mom has all of those who came before in special boxes or tins. When they evacuated for a hurry-cane, she took them all with her. She promised them they would always be with her and couldn't bear to leave them behind.

  45. This is such a beautiful story about and tribute to your Nicki...brought happy tears to my eyes as I think of our cat Goofer who came before the crew (he lived for 14 years and did NOT like other cats so he was our one and only)....I really love the box as well with space to hold a few other special memories. Beautiful, beautiful post! Thank you! xo

  55. Glogirly, Z-girl loved reading your post about Nicki, and it made her happy to know another kitty before Katie and Waff had a wonderful guardian and charmed life.
She says that she thought of all her kitties who came before the Squeedunk gang, especially since she looked through many family photo albums while packing and moving her mom and dad last year. Pages filled with photos that chronicle lives well lived...
It's nice to know that Nicki's ashes have a beautiful box to display. We think your new frames are cool too!
Have a great day, and thanks for sharing your story....from Valentina and the rest of the Squeedunk Cats
