Remembering Dad

Hi everyone, Katie here.

Six years ago today, Glogirly lost her dad. She still smiles every time she tells me about him or recalls one of his stories.

Glogirly loved and admired her dad so much. She says that he is still her greatest influence. The thing she admires most about her dad and his life is the amazing positive attitude he had about everything. No matter how great the challenge, no matter what the odds, even when his heart was breaking, he saw the good. He saw the good in everything and everyone. And that's how he lived his life each and every day.

He never saw his glass as half empty. It was always half full. Like his heart, there was always enough for him, enough to share and enough room to invite more people in.

I know how it feels to miss someone.

  1. (((Hugs))) and universal healing Light to Glogirly.

I still have my parents, though they've been divorced for decades. But it's only been in the past several years that I've been able to forgive my dad for all the verbal and emotional abuse while growing up. I usually see him once a year, because we're not close geographically, and I treasure the relationship I have with him now.

I'm so glad Glogirly has wonderful memories to warm her heart, even though it's bittersweet.

  17. TY for sharing... we especially luffed the picture of you with your dad. You look so young (Mom says not to take that the wrong way, whatever that means. Just that you look about 18).

  18. Glogirly, we are so glad that this day can make you smile along with your missing of your Dad. My Mom's Dad died just 3 years ago this coming Sunday. But he lived a very long life, and she knew she couldn't keep him here on Earth forever.

Here's to wonderful Dads (and Moms) and memories of them, everywhere.

  22. Katie, It sounds like Glogirly had a very wonderful Dad. It is so hard, and one misses them so much. Memories are wonderful but it doesn't stop the lonely feeling of them not being there. You will have to crawl on her lap and help her to feel warm all over. Take care Katie.

  29. Glogirly certainly has wonderful memories of her father to treasure. She can always think of him and feel his love, and that is very nice. Our mom has lost both her parents and sometimes misses them very much.

  30. The mom speaks:

What a wonderful man he was. The years passing don't make the loss less, they just make it easier to handle. I know this from my own experience ~ my beloved father died of cancer in 2006.

When my father of died a dear friend e-mailed me with words of comfort ~ and now tragically I grieve for him (as he also died of cancer just a a short time ago) But the same words he wrote to me comfort me again now. This was what I replied at the time (in 2006):

"I read your e-mail last night - and it was the first thing on my mind when I woke this morning. What you said struck such a chord with me - as you may recall my father died in January this year and I am still struggling to come to terms with the empty space in my heart. You made me realize that I too should embrace that space - it is still father's space and always will be - and I don't want anyone else to fill it. I will fill it with my lovely memories of father when he was fit and well, also the endearing memories from my childhood - one captured in a
favourite photograph where he carries me high on his shoulders. You are so right, I won't give those memories or that space up for anyone.
Thank you for sharing that with me Lenny (same name as my father)."

So Glogirly, it pleases me to know that you too have a special place in your heart for your beloved father. And no one will ever take his space ~ it is his alone.

  33. Glogirly was so fortunate to have such a positive and supporting man as her Dad. It must be so reassuring to be able to have all those precious memories.

His light lives on through her I am sure.

  35. Aw. mom says she knows all about missing someone you love so much. Her biggest sisster died in 2000. It is hard to imagine.
Your mommmie's dad looked like the nicest dad ever! He had the best life and the best girl daughter. What a sweet photo of him giving her a kiss. I like that one.
It is just good to know that he is safe now. Perhaps watching over her, and you too.

  38. Hugs to you Glogirly. Very touching and wonderful tribute to your awesome Dad. I'm an only child, and my parents mean the world to me and they are in their mid 80's. I will be devasted losing them. What a beautiful tribute.
On a happy note, www.Indiesmiles.com has thier "About Us" page up where Katie is, as their Mascot, and will be there always. I have mentioned to Sue, the owner, to highlight the links more because in black font, the last part of the article there is a link that will go to the main article with the slide video.
I hope this cheers you up at least a little bit.
I have lost so many loved friends, pets, & my fiance at a drive by shooting, so I so...can relate the sadness when it is thier time to go "Home" I keep my Faith and look forward to seeing them all when it's my time to go "Home". That's just what keeps me feel secure, but it is a pain that never ever goes away. You just learn eventually to live with it, as tears come and go.
